Delhi Crime: 10-Year-Old Girl Sleeping on Footpath Allegedly Abducted and Killed; Cab Driver Arrested Within Hours

A heart-wrenching incident has emerged from South Delhi’s Mehrauli area, where a 10-year-old girl, who was sleeping beside her family on a footpath near a Metro station, was allegedly abducted by a cab driver in the early hours of Monday and later found dead near the Gurgaon-Faridabad border, police said.

The child was raped and strangled to death.

According to investigators, the accused was tracked down and arrested within a few hours with the help of CCTV footage, vehicle registration records and GPS data. Police said the child and her family had been living on a pavement near a busy traffic intersection.

The family had migrated to Delhi from Bihar around four months ago in search of employment.

However, due to financial hardships and the lack of a steady source of income, they had been forced to spend their nights on the roadside.

Despite the family’s difficult circumstances, the girl had recently been admitted to a nearby government school with the assistance of a local woman.

Her father told police that the family had dinner and gone to sleep on the pavement on Sunday night, unaware that tragedy was about to strike.

The girl’s father said he woke up at around 4.15 am after hearing his daughter cry out, “Papa… save me.”

He immediately grabbed a stick and ran towards the sound. However, by the time he reached the spot, the assailant had allegedly placed the child inside a vehicle and driven away.

The father chased the car and raised an alarm, but he could not stop it. Investigators later identified the vehicle as a white Wagon R with a commercial registration number.

Using CCTV footage and vehicle registration details, police managed to trace the vehicle’s movement.

By around 11 am on Monday, police had taken the accused, identified as Bashu Kumar Singh, into custody while he was dropping off a passenger in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri area.

Police said the suspect initially denied his involvement in the crime. However, during interrogation, he allegedly confessed and led officers to a secluded forested area along the Faridabad-Gurgaon Road, where he had abandoned the girl’s body.

Forensic teams recovered the body on Monday evening. Preliminary examination revealed marks on the girl’s neck that were consistent with strangulation.

Officers also found multiple injuries on her face, indicating that she had suffered blunt-force trauma.

According to police, the accused allegedly attacked the child with stones and a brick.

Samples collected from the vehicle have been sent for forensic examination to help establish the sequence of events and corroborate the findings of the investigation.

When produced before a court on Tuesday, the accused was remanded to two days of police custody.

Police further alleged that while being taken to the crime scene, the suspect attempted to snatch a service revolver from an escorting officer and opened fire on the police team.

He sustained an injury to his leg when officers retaliated and was subsequently admitted to the hospital.

A separate case has also been registered against him for allegedly attacking a police officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal confirmed the arrest and said investigators were working to reconstruct the sequence of events, establish the motive and determine whether anyone else was involved in the crime.

“We are examining CCTV footage, vehicle movement records, mobile call details and forensic evidence. The investigation is progressing swiftly and all necessary action will be taken,” he said.

The girl’s father described her as a caring and ambitious child who looked after her younger siblings and dreamed of studying and building a better future. Police said the family would be provided legal assistance and social support as the case proceeds.

दक्षिण दिल्ली के महरौली इलाके से एक बेहद दर्दनाक घटना सामने आई है। पुलिस के अनुसार, मेट्रो स्टेशन के पास फुटपाथ पर अपने परिवार के साथ सो रही 10 वर्षीय बच्ची का सोमवार तड़के एक कैब चालक ने कथित तौर पर अपहरण कर लिया और बाद में उसकी हत्या कर शव को गुरुग्राम-फरीदाबाद सीमा के पास फेंक दिया।

जांच अधिकारियों ने बताया कि सीसीटीवी फुटेज, वाहन पंजीकरण रिकॉर्ड और जीपीएस डेटा की मदद से आरोपी को कुछ ही घंटों के भीतर गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। पुलिस के मुताबिक, बच्ची अपने परिवार के साथ एक व्यस्त ट्रैफिक चौराहे के पास फुटपाथ पर रह रही थी।

परिवार करीब चार महीने पहले रोजगार की तलाश में बिहार से दिल्ली आया था। लेकिन आर्थिक तंगी और स्थायी आय का कोई साधन न होने के कारण उन्हें सड़क किनारे रात बिताने के लिए मजबूर होना पड़ रहा था।

विपरीत परिस्थितियों के बावजूद बच्ची ने हाल ही में पास के एक सरकारी विद्यालय में दाखिला लिया था। एक स्थानीय महिला की मदद से उसका स्कूल में प्रवेश कराया गया था। बच्ची के पिता ने पुलिस को बताया कि रविवार रात परिवार ने भोजन किया और हमेशा की तरह फुटपाथ पर सो गया था।

पिता ने बताया कि सुबह करीब 4.15 बजे उनकी नींद बेटी की चीख सुनकर खुली। बच्ची चिल्ला रही थी, “पापा… मुझे बचा लो।” यह सुनकर वह तुरंत एक डंडा लेकर उसकी ओर दौड़े, लेकिन तब तक आरोपी कथित तौर पर बच्ची को कार में बैठाकर फरार हो चुका था।

उन्होंने वाहन का पीछा किया और लोगों से मदद की गुहार लगाई, लेकिन वह कार को रोक नहीं सके। बाद में पुलिस ने वाहन की पहचान एक सफेद रंग की कमर्शियल नंबर प्लेट वाली वैगन-आर कार के रूप में की। सीसीटीवी फुटेज और वाहन पंजीकरण विवरण के आधार पर पुलिस ने कार का पता लगा लिया।

सोमवार सुबह करीब 11 बजे पश्चिमी दिल्ली के विकासपुरी इलाके से आरोपी बाशु कुमार सिंह को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। वह उस समय एक यात्री को छोड़ने गया था।

पुलिस के अनुसार, शुरुआत में आरोपी ने घटना में अपनी संलिप्तता से इनकार किया। हालांकि पूछताछ के दौरान उसने कथित तौर पर अपराध स्वीकार कर लिया और पुलिस को फरीदाबाद-गुरुग्राम रोड के पास एक सुनसान वन क्षेत्र में ले गया, जहां उसने बच्ची का शव फेंका था।

सोमवार शाम फॉरेंसिक टीम ने वहां से बच्ची का शव बरामद किया। प्रारंभिक जांच में उसके गले पर ऐसे निशान मिले जो गला घोंटने की ओर इशारा करते हैं। उसके चेहरे पर भी कई गंभीर चोटों के निशान पाए गए, जिससे किसी भारी वस्तु से हमला किए जाने की आशंका जताई गई।

पुलिस का आरोप है कि आरोपी ने बच्ची पर पत्थरों और ईंट से हमला किया था। वाहन से भी कई नमूने एकत्र किए गए हैं, जिन्हें फॉरेंसिक जांच के लिए भेजा गया है ताकि घटनाक्रम की पूरी कड़ी और अन्य तथ्यों की पुष्टि की जा सके।

मंगलवार को अदालत में पेश किए जाने पर आरोपी को दो दिन की पुलिस हिरासत में भेज दिया गया। पुलिस का यह भी आरोप है कि घटनास्थल ले जाते समय उसने एक पुलिसकर्मी की सर्विस रिवॉल्वर छीनने की कोशिश की और पुलिस टीम पर गोली चला दी। जवाबी कार्रवाई में उसके पैर में गोली लगी, जिसके बाद उसे अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया। इस मामले में उसके खिलाफ पुलिस अधिकारी पर हमले का अलग मुकदमा भी दर्ज किया गया है।

दक्षिणी दिल्ली के पुलिस उपायुक्त अनंत मित्तल ने गिरफ्तारी की पुष्टि करते हुए कहा कि जांच एजेंसियां पूरे घटनाक्रम को जोड़ने, अपराध के पीछे के मकसद का पता लगाने और यह जांचने में जुटी हैं कि क्या इस वारदात में किसी और की भी भूमिका थी।

उन्होंने कहा, “हम सीसीटीवी फुटेज, वाहन की गतिविधियों, मोबाइल कॉल रिकॉर्ड और फॉरेंसिक साक्ष्यों की जांच कर रहे हैं। मामले में तेजी से जांच आगे बढ़ाई जा रही है और आवश्यक कार्रवाई की जाएगी।”

बच्ची के पिता ने उसे एक संवेदनशील, जिम्मेदार और महत्वाकांक्षी बच्ची बताया, जो अपने छोटे भाई-बहनों का ख्याल रखती थी और पढ़-लिखकर बेहतर जीवन का सपना देखती थी। पुलिस ने कहा है कि मामले की आगे की कार्यवाही के दौरान परिवार को हरसंभव कानूनी और सामाजिक सहायता उपलब्ध कराई जाएगी।
