Delhi Hit-and-Run: Grieving Father Demands Justice After Son’s Death, Questions Police Investigation
Grief-stricken father Surender Mattoo has made an emotional appeal for justice after his 34-year-old son, Sarthak Mattoo, lost his life in a hit-and-run accident in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on June 25.
Accusing the accused of abandoning his injured son on the roadside, he questioned why those responsible were still not behind bars.
In a video message recorded from his residence in Gurugram and shared with the media, Surender Mattoo recalled the hardships his Kashmiri Pandit family has endured over the years.
He said the family had already suffered the loss of loved ones and their home in the past, yet they rebuilt their lives.
Calling his son’s death another devastating blow, he appealed directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to ensure justice.
Expressing disappointment over the progress of the investigation, Mattoo alleged that the accused were moving around freely while his family continued to wait for justice.
He said the media had consistently highlighted the case, but claimed that there had been little visible progress.
Describing the family’s emotional condition, he said they felt as though they were “half dead.”
According to the police, the accident took place at around 6:30 am on June 25, when Sarthak was returning home on his motorcycle. Investigators said a Mahindra Thar allegedly rammed a bike from behind near the Rajokri flyover in Delhi.
The impact reportedly caused the motorcycle to fall off the flyover, resulting in fatal injuries.
During the investigation, police traced the SUV and found that it was registered in the name of a Bengaluru-based private company.
Officials later discovered that the vehicle had been leased to 29-year-old Sagar Saha, a native of Bihar, who works with the company.
While being questioned, Sagar Saha told investigators that the SUV was being driven by his friend Apurv Singh, a 30-year-old resident of Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, who is employed by a private firm.
Saha claimed that he was seated in the passenger seat when the accident occurred.
Police arrested Apurv Singh on June 27, but he was subsequently granted bail by the court.
A senior police officer stated that both the accused and the vehicle had been traced within a day of the incident.
Responding to questions regarding the accused securing bail, the officer said the case had been registered under the applicable legal provisions and that the court had taken the decision to grant bail.
Surender Mattoo also raised questions about the forensic investigation. He expressed concern over the delay in collecting blood samples, asking how authorities could accurately determine alcohol levels if the samples were taken nearly 50 hours after the incident.
Concluding his appeal, the bereaved father said he was prepared to fight for justice by every lawful means available.
He described his family as law-abiding citizens and taxpayers, urging the authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for his son’s death.

दक्षिण दिल्ली के वसंत कुंज में 25 जून को हुए दर्दनाक हिट-एंड-रन हादसे में 34 वर्षीय सार्थक मट्टू की मौत के बाद उनके पिता सुरेंद्र मट्टू ने न्याय की मांग करते हुए भावुक अपील की है। उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि दुर्घटना के बाद उनके घायल बेटे को सड़क किनारे मरने के लिए छोड़ दिया गया और अब तक जिम्मेदार लोगों के खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई नहीं हुई है।
गुरुग्राम स्थित अपने घर से रिकॉर्ड किए गए एक वीडियो संदेश में सुरेंद्र मट्टू ने कहा कि उनका कश्मीरी पंडित परिवार पहले भी कई त्रासदियों से गुजर चुका है।
उन्होंने बताया कि अतीत में उनके माता-पिता का निधन हुआ, उनका घर भी जला दिया गया, लेकिन परिवार ने हर कठिनाई के बाद खुद को संभाला।
अब इकलौते बेटे की मौत ने परिवार को पूरी तरह तोड़ दिया है। उन्होंने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी, केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह और दिल्ली की मुख्यमंत्री रेखा गुप्ता से मामले में न्याय सुनिश्चित करने की अपील की।
पुलिस जांच की रफ्तार पर नाराजगी जताते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि जिन लोगों पर हादसे का आरोप है, वे खुलेआम घूम रहे हैं, जबकि उनका परिवार न्याय का इंतजार कर रहा है।
उन्होंने कहा कि मीडिया ने लगातार इस मामले को उठाया, लेकिन उन्हें अब तक अपेक्षित कार्रवाई दिखाई नहीं दी। अपने परिवार की मानसिक स्थिति का जिक्र करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि वे “आधे मर चुके हैं।”
पुलिस के अनुसार, यह हादसा 25 जून की सुबह करीब 6:30 बजे हुआ, जब सार्थक अपनी मोटरसाइकिल से घर लौट रहे थे। जांच में सामने आया कि राजोकरी फ्लाईओवर के पास पीछे से आई एक महिंद्रा थार ने उनकी बाइक को टक्कर मार दी।
टक्कर इतनी जोरदार थी कि मोटरसाइकिल फ्लाईओवर से नीचे गिर गई, जिससे सार्थक की मौत हो गई।
जांच के दौरान पुलिस ने पता लगाया कि संबंधित महिंद्रा थार एक बेंगलुरु स्थित निजी कंपनी के नाम पर पंजीकृत थी। बाद में यह जानकारी मिली कि वाहन कंपनी ने बिहार निवासी 29 वर्षीय सागर साहा को लीज पर दिया था, जो उसी कंपनी में कार्यरत है।
पूछताछ के दौरान सागर साहा ने पुलिस को बताया कि हादसे के समय वाहन उसका मित्र 30 वर्षीय अपूर्व सिंह, जो उत्तर प्रदेश के गाजीपुर का निवासी है और एक निजी कंपनी में काम करता है, चला रहा था। सागर ने दावा किया कि वह उस समय वाहन की आगे वाली सीट पर बैठा था।
पुलिस ने 27 जून को अपूर्व सिंह को गिरफ्तार कर लिया था, लेकिन बाद में उसे अदालत से जमानत मिल गई। एक वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारी ने बताया कि घटना के एक दिन के भीतर ही आरोपी और वाहन दोनों का पता लगा लिया गया था।
अधिकारी ने कहा कि पुलिस ने कानून के अनुसार मामला दर्ज किया और जमानत देने का निर्णय अदालत ने लिया।
सुरेंद्र मट्टू ने फोरेंसिक जांच की प्रक्रिया पर भी सवाल उठाए। उन्होंने कहा कि यदि रक्त का नमूना घटना के लगभग 50 घंटे बाद लिया गया, तो ऐसे में शराब की मौजूदगी की सही जांच कैसे संभव है। उन्होंने जांच प्रक्रिया की पारदर्शिता पर भी चिंता जताई।
अपनी अपील के अंत में सुरेंद्र मट्टू ने कहा कि वह अपने बेटे को न्याय दिलाने के लिए हर कानूनी लड़ाई लड़ने को तैयार हैं।
उन्होंने कहा कि उनका परिवार कानून का सम्मान करने वाला और कर चुकाने वाला नागरिक है तथा उन्हें केवल यही उम्मीद है कि उनके बेटे की मौत के दोषियों को कानून के अनुसार सजा मिले।
