Delhi Kailash Hills Horror: Police Recreate Crime Scene, Probe Accused Rahul Meena’s Family, Debt and Behaviour
New Delhi: In a chilling development in the brutal rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman in South Delhi’s Kailash Hills, investigators from the Delhi Police on Friday carried out a detailed reconstruction of the crime scene.
As the investigation deepens, the focus is now expanding beyond the accused to his family, background, and mental state.
The accused, identified as Rahul Meena (23), is now at the centre of a multi-layered probe. Officials say his father in Alwar and his uncle in Gurugram are set to be questioned to better understand his recent actions, financial stress, and behavioural patterns.
A Crime That Shocked Investigators
According to police, the young woman—daughter of a civil servant—was alone at home on Wednesday morning when Meena allegedly entered the residence using a spare keycard.
He reached her floor, where she was studying, and reportedly demanded money. When she refused, the situation escalated violently.
Investigators say he assaulted her, repeatedly slapped and allegedly raped her/ The attack ultimately led to her death. Her parents later discovered her lifeless body, turning an ordinary day into a devastating tragedy.
Escape, Deception, and Arrest
After the crime, Meena allegedly attempted to cover his tracks. He dumped the victim’s mobile phone near a park in East of Kailash and fled the scene.
He then hired a cab to Dwarka, switched off his phone, and checked into a hotel under the name Rahul Kumar.
The hotel manager later recalled the encounter with unease.
“He seemed calm, polite… even apologetic about not having an ID. Nothing about him suggested he had committed something so horrific,” the manager said, still shaken by the revelation that followed.
Meena paid ₹1,500 in cash, ordered food, and even purchased a T-shirt online before police tracked him down. He was arrested the same day, bringing a swift but unsettling end to his brief attempt to evade capture.
Key Evidence and Disturbing Details
During the investigation, police recovered crucial evidence, including the victim’s stolen mobile phone and the accused’s blood-stained clothes.
Officers also revealed that Meena had changed into the victim’s brother’s clothes after the assault in an apparent attempt to avoid detection.
A senior officer noted that a detailed mapping of his movements is underway to understand how he managed to enter the building and leave without being clearly captured on surveillance cameras.
Psychological Profile Under Scanner
What has particularly disturbed investigators is Meena’s behaviour during questioning. Officers say he has shown little remorse and appeared unusually calm while describing his actions.
“He spoke about his debt and how he wanted money. There was a sense of detachment,” an officer said.
To better understand his mindset, the police are planning a psychoanalysis test. This will examine his mental health, behavioural tendencies, and possible triggers behind the crime.
Financial Stress and Family Angle
Preliminary findings suggest that Meena was under financial pressure, allegedly burdened with debts of around ₹7 lakh, possibly linked to gambling and excessive phone usage. Investigators believe this may have influenced his actions.
The Rajasthan Police has already detained his father and five other relatives for questioning. After initial interrogation, they are expected to be handed over to the Delhi Police for further inquiry.
Legal Process and Ongoing Investigation
Meena has been remanded for four days of police custody, during which investigators will continue to reconstruct the sequence of events, examine evidence, and question those connected to him.
A potency test—part of standard legal procedure in such cases—has also been conducted.
A City in Shock
The case has left residents shaken—not just because of the brutality of the crime, but also the unsettling normalcy of the accused’s behaviour before and after the incident.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are working to piece together every detail—hoping not only to secure justice for the victim but also to understand how such a crime unfolded so close to home.
