Virat Kohli’s Masterclass Outshines Sai Sudharsan Century as RCB Chase Down 206 Against Gujarat Titans
In a thrilling contest at Bengaluru’s iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was a night where brilliance met brilliance—but in the end, Virat Kohli’s composed yet commanding knock proved decisive.
Chasing a daunting 206, Royal Challengers Bengaluru held their nerve to defeat Gujarat Titans by five wickets with seven balls to spare on Friday.
The victory not only showcased RCB’s batting depth but also propelled them to the second spot on the points table.
Kohli Leads the Charge with Calm Authority
Kohli anchored the chase beautifully, crafting a fluent 81 runs that blended control with aggression.
His innings came at a crucial time, especially after an early setback. Alongside him, Devdutt Padikkal added a valuable 55, and the duo stitched together a crucial 115-run partnership for the second wicket.
There was a moment early in Kohli’s innings when luck favoured him—a dropped catch by Washington Sundar off Mohammed Siraj’s bowling when he was yet to open his account.
From there on, Kohli made the most of the reprieve, reading the pitch conditions perfectly and tackling bowlers like Prasidh Krishna and Kagiso Rabada with confidence.
Padikkal eventually fell to a sharp delivery from Rashid Khan, while Kohli was dismissed by a rising ball from Jason Holder.
For a brief period, the match seemed to tilt as RCB lost Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma in quick succession.
Finishing Touches with Composure
However, Krunal Pandya ensured there were no late hiccups, finishing unbeaten on 23 off just 12 balls. Along with Tim David, he calmly guided the team home, sealing the chase in 18.5 overs.
This win also marked a special milestone for RCB—it was their 50th victory at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, making them only the fourth team to achieve 50 wins at a single venue.
Sudharsan’s Century Sets the Stage
Earlier in the evening, Sai Sudharsan delivered a standout performance for the Gujarat Titans, scoring a magnificent 100. His innings was the backbone of Gujarat’s total of 205/3.
Sudharsan shared a strong 128-run partnership with captain Shubman Gill, who contributed 32 runs. While Sudharsan dominated during the power play with 29 runs, Gill played a more restrained role early on.
The latter overs saw useful contributions from Jos Buttler (25), Jason Holder (unbeaten 23), and Washington Sundar (unbeaten 19), pushing Gujarat to a competitive total.
A Contest of Quality, Decided by Experience
The match turned out to be a clash of two outstanding innings—Sudharsan’s composed century and Kohli’s match-winning knock.
But it was Kohli’s experience, temperament, and ability to pace a chase under pressure that ultimately made the difference.
On a night filled with big hits and high drama, it was a reminder that in T20 cricket, composure can be just as powerful as flair.
