Delhi Police Constable Accused of Shooting Wife Dead on Her Birthday in East Delhi, Hunt Underway
A shocking incident unfolded in East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area early Monday when a Delhi Police constable allegedly shot dead his wife on the day of her birthday before escaping from the scene.
Police have launched a massive search operation to trace the accused, who remains absconding.
Investigators identified the accused as Manish Bhati, a constable posted with the Anti-Auto Theft Squad of Delhi Police’s East District.
According to the police, the alleged shooting took place around 3 a.m. on a road near Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital after an argument between the couple.
The husband and wife, who had been married for nearly three years, were residents of Vinod Nagar.
Preliminary investigation and CCTV footage reportedly show that they left their home on a scooter at around 2 a.m.
Before reaching the hospital area, an altercation allegedly broke out between them.
Police officials said the dispute escalated after Bhati stopped the scooter. Priyanka, aged 24, reportedly got off the vehicle and continued arguing with her husband.
According to investigators, Bhati allegedly pulled out a firearm during the confrontation, shot her, and fled immediately after the incident.
The critically injured woman was later spotted lying on the roadside by a passing autorickshaw driver.
Police said the driver rushed her to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Several police teams have been deployed to locate the accused constable.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage captured along the route taken by the scooter and are attempting to reconstruct his movements after the alleged crime.
During the investigation, police questioned neighbours who claimed the couple frequently quarrelled.
According to officers, residents also reported hearing an argument from the couple’s house on Sunday night shortly before they left home.
Family members are now being questioned to understand the background of the marital dispute and any earlier incidents.
Priyanka was employed as a teacher at Providence School in Ashok Vihar.
Her family has alleged that she had been subjected to dowry-related demands after marriage.
According to her relatives, the couple had serious disputes over the issue in 2024, following which Priyanka stayed with her brother for nearly eight months before returning to her matrimonial home.
Police said all allegations are being examined as part of the investigation.

पूर्वी दिल्ली के कल्याणपुरी इलाके में सोमवार तड़के एक दिल दहला देने वाली घटना सामने आई। दिल्ली पुलिस के एक कांस्टेबल पर अपनी पत्नी की जन्मदिन के दिन कथित रूप से गोली मारकर हत्या करने का आरोप है।
वारदात के बाद आरोपी मौके से फरार हो गया, जिसकी तलाश के लिए पुलिस की कई टीमें लगातार छापेमारी कर रही हैं।
पुलिस के अनुसार आरोपी की पहचान मनीष भाटी के रूप में हुई है, जो दिल्ली पुलिस के पूर्वी जिले की एंटी-ऑटो थेफ्ट स्क्वाड में तैनात है।
प्रारंभिक जांच के मुताबिक यह घटना सुबह करीब तीन बजे लाल बहादुर शास्त्री (एलबीएस) अस्पताल के निकट सड़क पर हुई, जहां पति-पत्नी के बीच कथित रूप से विवाद बढ़ गया था।
करीब तीन वर्ष पहले विवाह बंधन में बंधे मनीष और प्रियंका विनोद नगर में रहते थे। जांच में सामने आए सीसीटीवी फुटेज के अनुसार दोनों सोमवार तड़के करीब दो बजे स्कूटर से घर से निकले थे। पुलिस का कहना है कि अस्पताल के पास पहुंचने से पहले दोनों के बीच कहासुनी शुरू हो गई थी।
जांच अधिकारियों के मुताबिक मनीष ने स्कूटर रोक दिया, जिसके बाद 24 वर्षीय प्रियंका नीचे उतर गईं। दोनों के बीच बहस तेज होती चली गई। पुलिस का आरोप है कि इसी दौरान मनीष ने अपनी सर्विस पिस्तौल या हथियार निकालकर प्रियंका पर गोली चला दी और तुरंत वहां से फरार हो गया।
कुछ समय बाद सड़क से गुजर रहे एक ऑटो चालक ने प्रियंका को खून से लथपथ हालत में देखा। पुलिस के अनुसार उसने तत्काल उन्हें एलबीएस अस्पताल पहुंचाया, लेकिन चिकित्सकों ने जांच के बाद उन्हें मृत घोषित कर दिया।
घटना के बाद आरोपी कांस्टेबल की तलाश के लिए विशेष टीमें गठित की गई हैं। पुलिस आसपास और भागने के संभावित मार्गों पर लगे सीसीटीवी कैमरों की फुटेज खंगाल रही है ताकि आरोपी की गतिविधियों का पता लगाया जा सके।
जांच के दौरान पड़ोसियों से पूछताछ में यह जानकारी सामने आई कि पति-पत्नी के बीच अक्सर विवाद होता रहता था।
पुलिस अधिकारियों के अनुसार रविवार रात भी पड़ोसियों ने दोनों के बीच बहस होने की आवाजें सुनने की बात कही है।
अब दोनों परिवारों से पूछताछ कर वैवाहिक जीवन से जुड़े विवादों और उनके कारणों की विस्तृत जानकारी जुटाई जा रही है।
प्रियंका अशोक विहार स्थित प्रोविडेंस स्कूल में शिक्षिका थीं। उनके परिजनों ने आरोप लगाया है कि विवाह के बाद उनसे दहेज की मांग की जाती थी।
परिवार का कहना है कि वर्ष 2024 में इसी मुद्दे को लेकर दोनों के बीच गंभीर विवाद हुआ था, जिसके बाद प्रियंका लगभग आठ महीने तक अपने भाई के घर रहीं। पुलिस ने कहा है कि इन सभी आरोपों की जांच मामले के अन्य पहलुओं के साथ की जा रही है।
