Delhi Software Engineer’s Mother Recounts Fatal Assault; Wife Among Four Arrested
The 31-year-old Noida-based software engineer died after an alleged attack at his Nihal Vihar home, with police investigating whether a family dispute over the care of an infant led to the fatal confrontation.
Delhi Police have arrested four people, including the wife of software engineer Vinay Gupta, after the 31-year-old died following an alleged assault at his Nihal Vihar home.
A family dispute at a west Delhi home ended in tragedy when a 31-year-old software engineer allegedly died following an assault involving members of his wife’s family.
The victim’s mother has accused the attackers of overpowering and repeatedly beating her only son as his parents pleaded with them to stop.
Vinay Gupta, who worked for a multinational company in Noida, died on Friday while being taken to hospital.
His wife Rekha, her two brothers and her sister-in-law have since been arrested in connection with the case.
Police have also begun examining evidence from a CCTV system installed at the residence.
According to the preliminary investigation, investigators believe the camera inside the house had been switched off before the incident.
Gupta lived with his parents in Laxmi Park, within the Nihal Vihar area.
He had married Rekha around three-and-a-half years ago, and the couple was parents to four-month-old twins.
Investigators are examining whether an argument over the medical care of one of the infants triggered the sequence of events.
According to police, Gupta had asked his wife to apply medicine to their child after blisters appeared on the baby’s body.
An argument allegedly followed when she refused. Rekha then left the house and allegedly contacted members of her family.
Soon afterwards, her brothers Raju and Vedprakash, along with her sister-in-law Poonam, allegedly arrived at the house.
Gupta’s parents said the visitors initially told them they had come to speak with him. What followed, according to the family, was a violent confrontation.
His father, Prem Chand, said he had briefly gone inside to fetch water and found his son being assaulted when he returned.
His mother, Renu Gupta, alleged that the attackers ignored repeated appeals to settle the dispute through discussion.
In an emotional account, she said her son was forced down and beaten while she and her husband tried to intervene.
She alleged that the men held him by the neck and struck him repeatedly, including in the abdomen.
Renu Gupta said she ran outside in an attempt to seek help from neighbours. When she returned, she found her son in a critical condition.
Gupta was rushed to a hospital but died before he could receive treatment.
The four accused — Rekha, Raju, Vedprakash and Poonam — have been taken into custody.
A murder case has been registered at Nihal Vihar police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to murder and acts committed by several persons sharing a common intention.
Police are questioning family members and neighbours and reviewing available CCTV footage to establish precisely what happened inside the house and the role played by each accused.
The investigation is continuing.

पत्नी और रिश्तेदार गिरफ्तार, दिल्ली पुलिस जांच में जुटी
चार महीने के जुड़वां बच्चों के माता-पिता के बीच शुरू हुआ एक घरेलू विवाद कथित तौर पर कुछ ही समय में हिंसक टकराव में बदल गया।
पश्चिमी दिल्ली के निहाल विहार इलाके में 31 वर्षीय सॉफ्टवेयर इंजीनियर विनय गुप्ता की कथित पिटाई के बाद मौत हो गई। मामले में उसकी पत्नी सहित चार लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है।
विनय की मां ने आरोप लगाया है कि उनके इकलौते बेटे को घर के भीतर गिराकर बुरी तरह पीटा गया।
उन्होंने दावा किया कि परिवार के लोग लगातार हमलावरों से मारपीट रोकने की गुहार लगाते रहे, लेकिन उनकी बात नहीं सुनी गई।
पुलिस ने विनय की पत्नी रेखा, उसके भाइयों राजू और वेदप्रकाश तथा उसकी भाभी पूनम को गिरफ्तार किया है।
जांच के शुरुआती चरण में एक और महत्वपूर्ण पहलू सामने आया है। पुलिस के अनुसार, घटना से पहले घर के अंदर लगा सीसीटीवी कैमरा बंद कर दिया गया था। जांचकर्ता अब यह पता लगाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं कि कैमरा कब और किसने बंद किया।
विनय गुप्ता लच्छी पार्क इलाके में अपने माता-पिता के साथ रहता था और नोएडा स्थित एक बहुराष्ट्रीय कंपनी में सॉफ्टवेयर इंजीनियर के रूप में कार्यरत था।
उसकी शादी रेखा से करीब साढ़े तीन साल पहले हुई थी। दंपति के चार महीने के जुड़वां बच्चे हैं।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, विवाद की शुरुआत तब हुई जब एक बच्चे के शरीर पर छाले निकलने के बाद विनय ने पत्नी से दवा लगाने को कहा। इस बात को लेकर दोनों के बीच कथित रूप से कहासुनी हुई।
जांच अधिकारियों का कहना है कि विवाद के बाद रेखा घर से चली गई और उसने अपने परिवार के सदस्यों से संपर्क किया। कुछ समय बाद उसके दो भाई और भाभी कथित तौर पर विनय के घर पहुंचे।
विनय के पिता प्रेम चंद ने बताया कि आने वाले रिश्तेदारों ने कहा था कि वे विनय से बातचीत करने आए हैं। उन्होंने दावा किया कि वह पानी लेने के लिए भीतर गए थे, लेकिन वापस आने पर उन्होंने बेटे के साथ मारपीट होती देखी।
विनय की मां रेणु गुप्ता के अनुसार, परिवार के लोग विवाद को शांतिपूर्वक सुलझाने की अपील करते रहे। उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि इसके बावजूद विनय को काबू में कर जमीन और बिस्तर पर पटककर पीटा गया।
मां ने दावा किया कि आरोपियों ने उसके बेटे को पकड़कर रखा, गला दबाया और पेट पर लात-घूंसे मारे। उन्होंने बताया कि मदद के लिए वह पड़ोसियों को बुलाने बाहर गई थीं।
उनका आरोप है कि जब वह वापस लौटीं, तब तक बेटे की हालत बेहद गंभीर हो चुकी थी।
परिजन विनय को अस्पताल ले जाने के लिए निकले, लेकिन रास्ते में ही उसकी मौत हो गई।
पुलिस ने निहाल विहार थाने में हत्या का मामला दर्ज किया है। आरोपियों पर भारतीय न्याय संहिता की धारा 103(1), जो हत्या से संबंधित है, तथा धारा 3(5), जो समान इरादे से कई लोगों द्वारा किए गए अपराध से संबंधित है, के तहत कार्रवाई की गई है।
जांच दल घर के भीतर और आसपास उपलब्ध सीसीटीवी फुटेज की जांच कर रहा है। पड़ोसियों और परिवार के सदस्यों के बयान भी दर्ज किए जा रहे हैं ताकि घटना से पहले हुए विवाद और कथित हमले की पूरी श्रृंखला स्पष्ट हो सके।
पुलिस अब यह तय करने की कोशिश कर रही है कि घर में किसकी क्या भूमिका थी, हमला कैसे हुआ और सीसीटीवी कैमरा बंद होने के पीछे क्या परिस्थितियां थीं। मामले की जांच जारी है।
