Dharmendra Pradhan Returns to Parliament Amid Loud BJP Support After Resigning Over NEET Row

Just two days after stepping down as Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan walked into Parliament on Tuesday to an emphatic show of solidarity from the Bharatiya Janata Party, with ruling alliance MPs raising slogans in his support and projecting him as a leader who had accepted moral responsibility despite his contributions to the education sector.

The moment Pradhan arrived at the Parliament complex, he acknowledged journalists waiting outside before heading towards the building.

Within moments, several National Democratic Alliance (NDA) lawmakers gathered around him, chanting “Dharmendra Pradhan Zindabad” and applauding him as he entered the premises, turning his first public appearance after the resignation into a display of political backing.

Pradhan had relinquished charge of the Education Ministry on Saturday following mounting nationwide outrage over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and the reported suicides of several aspirants, which intensified demands from opposition parties, students and civil society groups seeking his resignation.

In the letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the senior BJP leader maintained that his decision was guided by the larger interests of students and the country’s education system.

He wrote that stepping aside was necessary to ensure that young people remained focused on their studies and careers without being drawn into prolonged unrest or legal disputes.

The resignation letter further stated that he did not want forces opposed to the country’s interests to exploit the protests taking place at Jantar Mantar and elsewhere.

According to Pradhan, preserving national unity and protecting students from becoming entangled in political and legal confrontations were among the reasons behind his decision to vacate office.

Soon after his resignation, senior BJP leaders came forward in his defence, describing his tenure as one marked by sweeping educational reforms.

Party leaders highlighted his role in introducing structural changes aimed at modernising India’s academic framework and credited him with driving key policy initiatives during his time in the Union Cabinet.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised Pradhan for strengthening the country’s education ecosystem while promoting India’s civilisational values through academic reforms.

BJP National President Nitin Nabin also commended the former minister, saying his resignation reflected accountability, public duty and commitment to democratic values.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah echoed similar sentiments, saying Pradhan had made a lasting contribution to transforming the education sector.

Shah observed that his work reflected a broader commitment towards building a developed India through meaningful reforms in education.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey dismissed suggestions that the resignation had been extracted under political pressure.

He said Pradhan, who began his public life through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), had independently decided to resign after making significant contributions through the National Education Policy, expansion of higher educational institutions and examination reforms.

Despite the party’s public support, people familiar with the developments indicated that prolonged discussions within the government over the political fallout of the NEET-UG controversy may have influenced the final decision.

According to those aware of the matter, concerns that the continuing protests could alienate young voters, particularly the influential Generation Z demographic, were believed to be among the factors considered before Pradhan stepped down.

नीट विवाद के बाद संसद पहुंचे धर्मेंद्र प्रधान का जोरदार स्वागत, भाजपा ने बताया शिक्षा सुधारों का प्रमुख चेहरा

नीट-यूजी पेपर लीक विवाद के बीच केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री पद से इस्तीफा देने के महज दो दिन बाद धर्मेंद्र प्रधान मंगलवार को पहली बार संसद पहुंचे, जहां भारतीय जनता पार्टी और राष्ट्रीय जनतांत्रिक गठबंधन (एनडीए) के सांसदों ने उनका गर्मजोशी से स्वागत किया।

संसद परिसर उनके समर्थन के नारों से गूंज उठा और पार्टी ने यह संदेश देने की कोशिश की कि प्रधान ने पद छोड़ा है, लेकिन उनका राजनीतिक कद बरकरार है।

संसद भवन पहुंचने पर प्रधान ने बाहर मौजूद मीडिया का अभिवादन किया और आगे बढ़ने लगे। इसी दौरान बड़ी संख्या में एनडीए सांसद उनके आसपास एकत्र हो गए और “धर्मेंद्र प्रधान जिंदाबाद” के नारे लगाने लगे। उनके संसद पहुंचने का यह पहला सार्वजनिक अवसर भाजपा के शक्ति प्रदर्शन में बदल गया।

प्रधान ने शनिवार को शिक्षा मंत्री पद से इस्तीफा दिया था। नीट-यूजी प्रश्नपत्र लीक और उसके बाद कई अभ्यर्थियों की कथित आत्महत्याओं को लेकर देशभर में विरोध प्रदर्शन तेज हो गए थे। विपक्षी दलों, छात्र संगठनों और विभिन्न सामाजिक समूहों की ओर से लगातार उनके इस्तीफे की मांग की जा रही थी।

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को भेजे गए अपने इस्तीफे में धर्मेंद्र प्रधान ने कहा कि उनका निर्णय पूरी तरह विद्यार्थियों के भविष्य और देश की शिक्षा व्यवस्था को ध्यान में रखकर लिया गया है।

उन्होंने लिखा कि वह चाहते हैं कि छात्र आंदोलन, विवाद और कानूनी उलझनों में फंसने के बजाय अपनी पढ़ाई और भविष्य पर ध्यान केंद्रित करें।

अपने पत्र में उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि जंतर-मंतर और देश के अन्य हिस्सों में चल रहे विरोध प्रदर्शनों का लाभ राष्ट्रविरोधी तत्व न उठा सकें, इसलिए उन्होंने पद छोड़ना उचित समझा।

उनके अनुसार देश की एकता बनाए रखना और विद्यार्थियों को अनावश्यक राजनीतिक तथा कानूनी विवादों से दूर रखना इस निर्णय का महत्वपूर्ण आधार था।

इस्तीफे के तुरंत बाद भाजपा के वरिष्ठ नेताओं ने खुलकर धर्मेंद्र प्रधान के समर्थन में मोर्चा संभाल लिया। पार्टी नेताओं ने उनके कार्यकाल को शिक्षा क्षेत्र में व्यापक बदलावों का दौर बताते हुए कहा कि उन्होंने देश की शिक्षा व्यवस्था को नई दिशा देने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।

असम के मुख्यमंत्री हिमंत बिस्वा सरमा ने कहा कि प्रधान के प्रयासों से भारतीय शिक्षा व्यवस्था मजबूत हुई और शिक्षा के माध्यम से देश की सांस्कृतिक पहचान को भी नई मजबूती मिली।

भाजपा के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष नितिन नवीन ने भी उनके फैसले को सार्वजनिक जीवन में जवाबदेही, नैतिकता और समर्पण का उदाहरण बताया।

केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने भी प्रधान के योगदान की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि उन्होंने शिक्षा क्षेत्र में ऐतिहासिक सुधारों को लागू करने में अहम भूमिका निभाई।

शाह के अनुसार उनका कार्यकाल विकसित भारत के लक्ष्य को साकार करने की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण पड़ाव साबित हुआ।

भाजपा सांसद निशिकांत दुबे ने उन अटकलों को खारिज किया कि प्रधान ने किसी दबाव में इस्तीफा दिया।

उन्होंने कहा कि अखिल भारतीय विद्यार्थी परिषद (एबीवीपी) से सार्वजनिक जीवन की शुरुआत करने वाले प्रधान ने नई शिक्षा नीति, विश्वविद्यालयों के विस्तार और परीक्षा प्रणाली में सुधार जैसे कई बड़े कदम उठाए तथा इस्तीफा पूरी तरह अपने विवेक से दिया।

हालांकि सत्ता पक्ष की ओर से लगातार समर्थन जताए जाने के बावजूद घटनाक्रम से जुड़े सूत्रों का कहना है कि सरकार के भीतर लंबे समय तक इस बात पर मंथन चलता रहा कि नीट-यूजी विवाद से उपजे जनाक्रोश के क्या राजनीतिक परिणाम हो सकते हैं।

जानकारों का मानना है कि विशेष रूप से युवा मतदाताओं, खासकर जेनरेशन-ज़ेड के बीच बढ़ती नाराजगी को देखते हुए सरकार ने संभावित राजनीतिक नुकसान का आकलन किया और उसी पृष्ठभूमि में धर्मेंद्र प्रधान के इस्तीफे का फैसला सामने आया।
