Former Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator Pooja Pal has been appointed as a State Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh.

The party announced its new state organisational team on Thursday, with BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary unveiling the list of office-bearers.

Pooja Pal has been entrusted with one of the key leadership roles in the revamped state unit.

Pooja Pal joined the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections after ending her long association with the Samajwadi Party.

Before switching political camps, she had represented the Chail Assembly constituency in Prayagraj.

Following her induction into the BJP, she was welcomed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who praised her decision to join the party.

Apart from Pooja Pal, the BJP has also appointed former state minister and ex-president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, Dr. Krutika Agrawal, as a State Vice President.

State BJP president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary has additionally inducted Pankaj Choudhary into his state leadership team, strengthening the organisation with a mix of experienced and grassroots leaders.

The newly announced state executive also gives representation to leaders from Prayagraj. Alongside Pooja Pal, Dr. Krutika Agrawal has been elevated as State Vice President.

She previously served as Uttar Pradesh Minister of the BJP Mahila Morcha in 2018 and later became the organisation’s State General Secretary in 2021.

Another prominent appointment is that of Akanksha Sankhwar from Yamunanagar, who has been made a State Minister in the BJP organisation.

She has steadily risen through the ranks, serving as district coordinator of the BJP Mahila Morcha between 2014 and 2017, district president from 2017 to 2021, and State Minister of the Mahila Morcha from 2021 to 2026.

She is currently a member of the district welfare committee. Akanksha is the daughter of former Chail MLA Dhiraj Sonkar.

Suresh Maurya has also been given the responsibility of serving as a State Vice President. A resident of Sarai Nivasi in Meja, Prayagraj, Maurya, is regarded as a prominent BJP OBC leader.

He has contested the Phulpur Assembly constituency in 2012, 2017, and 2022, and was elected as a district panchayat member in 2019.

Pooja Pal comes from a modest family background. Born on July 25, 1979, she is the daughter of the late Amrit Lal Pal, who worked as a stone mason.

The family faced financial hardships, prompting her to begin working at a private hospital in Prayagraj at a young age.

Her political journey began after the assassination of her husband, Raju Pal, a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA from Allahabad West, who was shot dead in broad daylight in January 2005.

The incident became one of Uttar Pradesh’s most high-profile political murder cases. Following his death, Pooja Pal entered active politics.

She married Raju Pal in 2004 after meeting him while working at the hospital. Less than a year later, on January 25, 2005, Raju Pal was killed near the Sulem Sarai area while returning from a cricket tournament in Bamrauli.

Pooja Pal first won the Chail Assembly seat in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. She retained the constituency in 2017 by defeating BJP candidate Sanjay Kumar Gupta.

However, in the 2022 Assembly polls, she lost the seat to BJP’s Krishna Paswan, bringing her decade-long tenure as MLA to an end.

सपा की पूर्व विधायक पूजा पाल बनीं भाजपा की उत्तर प्रदेश प्रदेश उपाध्यक्ष

समाजवादी पार्टी (सपा) की पूर्व विधायक पूजा पाल को भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) ने उत्तर प्रदेश इकाई का प्रदेश उपाध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया है। गुरुवार को भाजपा प्रदेश अध्यक्ष भूपेंद्र सिंह चौधरी ने नई प्रदेश कार्यकारिणी की घोषणा करते हुए उन्हें संगठन की अहम जिम्मेदारी सौंपी। नई टीम में कई वरिष्ठ और सक्रिय नेताओं को स्थान दिया गया है।

लोकसभा चुनाव 2024 से पहले समाजवादी पार्टी छोड़कर भाजपा में शामिल हुईं पूजा पाल पहले प्रयागराज की चायल विधानसभा सीट से विधायक रह चुकी हैं। भाजपा में शामिल होने के बाद मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने उनका स्वागत किया था और उनके निर्णय की सराहना की थी।

भाजपा ने पूर्व प्रदेश मंत्री एवं महिला मोर्चा की पूर्व प्रदेश अध्यक्ष डॉ. कृतिका अग्रवाल को भी प्रदेश उपाध्यक्ष बनाया गया है। इसके अलावा प्रदेश अध्यक्ष भूपेंद्र सिंह चौधरी ने पंकज चौधरी को अपनी टीम में शामिल कर संगठन को और मजबूत करने का प्रयास किया है।

नई प्रदेश कार्यकारिणी में प्रयागराज के नेताओं को भी प्रमुख स्थान मिला है। पूजा पाल के साथ डॉ. कृतिका अग्रवाल को प्रदेश उपाध्यक्ष की जिम्मेदारी दी गई है। वह वर्ष 2018 में भाजपा महिला मोर्चा की प्रदेश मंत्री बनी थीं और 2021 में महिला मोर्चा की प्रदेश महामंत्री नियुक्त की गई थीं।

यमुनानगर की आकांक्षा सोनकर को प्रदेश मंत्री बनाया गया है। उन्होंने संगठन में लगातार विभिन्न जिम्मेदारियां निभाई हैं। वर्ष 2014 से 2017 तक महिला मोर्चा की जिला संयोजक, 2017 से 2021 तक जिला अध्यक्ष और 2021 से 2026 तक महिला मोर्चा की प्रदेश मंत्री रहीं। वर्तमान में वह जिला कल्याण समिति की सदस्य हैं। आकांक्षा पूर्व चायल विधायक धीरज सोनकर की पुत्री हैं।

प्रयागराज के मेजा क्षेत्र के सराय निवासी सुरेश मौर्य को भी प्रदेश उपाध्यक्ष बनाया गया है। भाजपा के प्रमुख पिछड़ा वर्ग (ओबीसी) नेताओं में गिने जाने वाले सुरेश मौर्य 2012, 2017 और 2022 में फूलपुर विधानसभा सीट से चुनाव लड़ चुके हैं। वर्ष 2019 में वह जिला पंचायत सदस्य भी निर्वाचित हुए थे।

पूजा पाल का जन्म 25 जुलाई 1979 को एक साधारण परिवार में हुआ था। उनके पिता स्वर्गीय अमृत लाल पाल पत्थर तराशने का काम करते थे। आर्थिक परिस्थितियां कठिन होने के कारण पूजा पाल ने कम उम्र में ही प्रयागराज के एक निजी अस्पताल में नौकरी शुरू कर दी थी।

उनके जीवन में बड़ा मोड़ तब आया जब उनके पति और बहुजन समाज पार्टी (बसपा) के इलाहाबाद पश्चिम से विधायक राजू पाल की जनवरी 2005 में दिनदहाड़े हत्या कर दी गई। यह घटना उत्तर प्रदेश के सबसे चर्चित राजनीतिक हत्याकांडों में से एक मानी जाती है। इसके बाद पूजा पाल ने सक्रिय राजनीति में कदम रखा।

पूजा पाल की मुलाकात राजू पाल से अस्पताल में नौकरी के दौरान हुई थी और दोनों ने वर्ष 2004 में विवाह किया। शादी के कुछ ही महीनों बाद 25 जनवरी 2005 को बमरौली में क्रिकेट प्रतियोगिता से लौटते समय सुलेमसराय के पास राजू पाल की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी गई।

पूजा पाल पहली बार 2012 के विधानसभा चुनाव में चायल सीट से विधायक बनीं। 2017 में उन्होंने भाजपा प्रत्याशी संजय कुमार गुप्ता को हराकर अपनी सीट बरकरार रखी। हालांकि, 2022 के विधानसभा चुनाव में भाजपा के कृष्णा पासवान से उन्हें हार का सामना करना पड़ा और उनका विधायक कार्यकाल समाप्त हो गया।
