Gurugram Village Feud Turns Deadly Again: Eight-Year Revenge Claims Another Life
A quiet village in Haryana’s Gurugram district has once again been shaken by violence, as an eight-year-old family feud claimed another life.
On April 30, 55-year-old former National Security Guard (NSG) commando Sundar Pal Singh, popularly known as “Sundar Fauji”, was shot dead at Moni Baba ka Chabutra in Kasan village.
Police have arrested 20-year-old Kartik Chauhan, the younger son of former village sarpanch Bahadur Singh Chauhan, alleging that the murder was carried out to avenge his father’s killing in 2018.
Despite the two families living barely 100 metres apart, their relationship has deteriorated beyond repair since the 2018 incident.
Police said Fauji, who was serving a life sentence for Bahadur Singh’s murder, had been released on parole to attend a family wedding.
On the morning of April 30, while waiting for his wife at the village square, he was allegedly attacked by Kartik and his associate Gulshan alias Gullu, who reportedly fired multiple rounds before fleeing.
Both were later arrested, and investigators described the murder as a carefully planned act of revenge.
According to the police, Kartik admitted during questioning that he had planned the attack to avenge his father’s death and had allegedly procured illegal firearms from Uttar Pradesh.
A video of the shooting later surfaced, showing panic among villagers as the attackers escaped before abandoning their weapons.
Behind the latest murder lies a friendship that eventually turned into bitter hostility.
Fauji’s wife, Manju Rani, claimed the dispute began after her husband allegedly lent nearly ₹65 lakh to Bahadur Singh over several years and later demanded repayment.
She alleged that the disagreement escalated into the fatal shooting of Bahadur Singh in 2018.
However, the Chauhan family has firmly denied borrowing any money, insisting there was never any financial dispute.
A Gurugram court later convicted Fauji for Bahadur Singh’s murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Manju Rani also alleged that after the 2018 incident, the Chauhan family took control of a school run by her family and intimidated its staff, claims the Chauhans have rejected, maintaining that the property legally belongs to them.
While Fauji’s family remembers him as a disciplined Army veteran who helped villagers solve disputes, the Chauhan family recalls the days when both families shared close ties.
Bahadur Singh and Fauji had served together in the Army during the 1990s, attended each other’s family functions and maintained a long friendship before relations collapsed.
Kartik’s elder siblings, Rohan and Sapna Chauhan, said they do not support their younger brother’s alleged actions.
They believe he struggled with unresolved emotional trauma following their father’s murder, but insist the family had accepted the court’s verdict.
According to them, Kartik had recently married, was pursuing a bachelor’s degree through distance education and hoped to expand the family’s business before the latest incident changed his future forever.
Residents of Kasan village say they had long feared the rivalry would claim another victim. Many believe the conflict never truly ended despite the legal proceedings.
Both families have now suffered irreversible losses, and villagers hope the violence finally comes to an end, even as the legal battle continues.

हरियाणा के गुरुग्राम जिले के कासन गांव में आठ साल पुरानी पारिवारिक दुश्मनी ने एक बार फिर खूनी रूप ले लिया। 30 अप्रैल को पूर्व राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा गार्ड (एनएसजी) कमांडो 55 वर्षीय सुंदर पाल सिंह उर्फ “सुंदर फौजी” की गांव के मोनी बाबा के चबूतरे पर गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी गई।
पुलिस ने इस मामले में पूर्व सरपंच बहादुर सिंह चौहान के छोटे बेटे 20 वर्षीय कार्तिक चौहान को गिरफ्तार किया है। पुलिस का आरोप है कि उसने वर्ष 2018 में अपने पिता की हत्या का बदला लेने के लिए इस वारदात को अंजाम दिया।
दोनों परिवारों के घर महज 100 मीटर की दूरी पर हैं, लेकिन 2018 की घटना के बाद उनके रिश्ते पूरी तरह टूट गए। पुलिस के अनुसार, बहादुर सिंह की हत्या के मामले में उम्रकैद की सजा काट रहे सुंदर पाल सिंह को पारिवारिक शादी में शामिल होने के लिए पैरोल मिली थी।
30 अप्रैल की सुबह वह गांव के चबूतरे पर अपनी पत्नी का इंतजार कर रहे थे, तभी कार्तिक और उसके साथी गुलशन उर्फ गुल्लू ने कथित रूप से उन पर कई गोलियां चलाईं और मौके से फरार हो गए।
बाद में दोनों आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। पुलिस का कहना है कि यह हत्या पूरी योजना के तहत बदले की भावना से की गई।
जांच एजेंसियों का दावा है कि पूछताछ के दौरान कार्तिक ने अपने पिता की हत्या का बदला लेने की बात स्वीकार की और कथित रूप से उत्तर प्रदेश से अवैध हथियार लाने की जानकारी भी दी। घटना का एक वीडियो भी सामने आया, जिसमें गोलीबारी के बाद गांव में अफरा-तफरी का माहौल दिखाई दिया।
दोनों परिवारों के अनुसार इस दुश्मनी की शुरुआत कभी गहरी दोस्ती से हुई थी। सुंदर पाल सिंह की पत्नी मंजू रानी का दावा है कि उनके पति ने वर्षों के दौरान बहादुर सिंह को करीब 65 लाख रुपये उधार दिए थे।
जब उन्होंने रकम वापस मांगी तो विवाद बढ़ता गया और आखिरकार 2018 में बहादुर सिंह की हत्या हो गई। हालांकि, चौहान परिवार इन आरोपों को पूरी तरह खारिज करता है और कहता है कि उन्होंने कभी कोई पैसा उधार नहीं लिया।
बहादुर सिंह की हत्या के मामले में गुरुग्राम की अदालत ने सुंदर पाल सिंह को दोषी ठहराते हुए उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई थी। मंजू रानी का यह भी आरोप है कि घटना के बाद चौहान परिवार ने उनके स्कूल पर कब्जा कर लिया और कर्मचारियों को डराया-धमकाया। दूसरी ओर चौहान परिवार का कहना है कि स्कूल की संपत्ति कानूनी रूप से उनकी है।
सुंदर पाल सिंह का परिवार उन्हें अनुशासित सैनिक और गांव के लोगों की मदद करने वाला व्यक्ति बताता है।
वहीं चौहान परिवार का कहना है कि दोनों परिवार कभी बेहद करीबी थे। बहादुर सिंह और सुंदर पाल ने 1990 के दशक में सेना में साथ सेवा की थी और एक-दूसरे के पारिवारिक समारोहों में भी शामिल होते थे।
कार्तिक के बड़े भाई रोहन और बहन सपना का कहना है कि वे अपने छोटे भाई के कथित कदम का समर्थन नहीं करते। उनका मानना है कि पिता की हत्या के बाद वह मानसिक रूप से परेशान रहता था, हालांकि परिवार अदालत के फैसले को स्वीकार कर चुका था।
उनके अनुसार कार्तिक की हाल ही में शादी हुई थी, वह स्नातक की पढ़ाई कर रहा था और परिवार के व्यवसाय को आगे बढ़ाने की योजना बना रहा था।
गांव के लोगों का कहना है कि उन्हें लंबे समय से आशंका थी कि यह दुश्मनी फिर किसी बड़े हादसे में बदलेगी। अब दोनों परिवार अपनों को खो चुके हैं और ग्रामीणों की सबसे बड़ी उम्मीद यही है कि बदले की यह हिंसक श्रृंखला यहीं समाप्त हो जाए।
