Delhi Mehrauli Girl Rape and Murder Case: Police Recover Alleged Murder Weapons, Accused’s Chilling Account Emerges

Police investigating the abduction, rape and murder of a 10-year-old homeless girl in Delhi’s Mehrauli area have recovered key pieces of evidence believed to have been used in the crime.

The breakthrough comes days after the arrest of a 29-year-old cab driver, Bashu Kumar Singh, who was taken into custody on Monday, just hours after the incident.

According to sources associated with the investigation, officers recovered a cotton towel allegedly used during the crime along with a stone believed to have been used in the attack.

Both items were found near the forested area where the child’s body was discovered. Investigators also recovered strands of hair from the accused’s taxi, which will be sent for forensic examination.

Police officials said that during interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted that he waited for nearly 45 minutes before abducting the child. Investigators claim he was looking for an opportunity when she became separated from her family while asleep.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, when the girl and her parents were sleeping on a footpath near a Metro station in South Delhi.

According to investigators, Singh told police that he had been driving towards Gurugram after dropping off a passenger in South Delhi.

At around 3.30 a.m., he noticed the family sleeping on the roadside. Initially, he allegedly abandoned the idea because the child was lying close to her father, while her younger sisters were sleeping nearby.

Police said the accused allegedly waited until about 4.15 a.m., when the girl moved slightly away from her family in her sleep. Investigators claim he then covered her face, forced her into his vehicle and fled from the spot before anyone could intervene.

The girl’s father later told police that he woke up after hearing movement and heard his daughter calling out for help. By the time he reacted and attempted to stop the vehicle, it had already sped away.

During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that he assaulted the child when she tried to resist and raped her.

Police said he then drove to an isolated location near a forested stretch, where the crime was allegedly carried out.

Investigators further stated that the accused later returned to the area from where the child had been abducted.

However, after noticing police personnel and the victim’s family searching for her, he allegedly left the location without stopping.

According to police sources, the accused allegedly drove towards the Gurugram-Faridabad border, where he is suspected of killing the child before abandoning her body near the Aravalli hills.

Investigators also claim he attempted to destroy evidence and make identification difficult before fleeing the area.

Police said that after allegedly disposing of the body, Singh resumed driving his cab and even accepted another passenger, whom he dropped off in Vikaspuri in West Delhi.

Delhi Police later tracked him down and arrested him at around 11 a.m., nearly seven hours after the alleged crime. The investigation is continuing, and forensic findings are expected to play a significant role in strengthening the case.

जांच से जुड़े सूत्रों के अनुसार, पुलिस ने एक सूती तौलिया और एक पत्थर बरामद किया है, जिन्हें घटना में इस्तेमाल किया गया माना जा रहा है। दोनों वस्तुएं उस जंगल वाले इलाके के पास मिलीं, जहां बच्ची का शव बरामद हुआ था। इसके अलावा, आरोपी की टैक्सी से बालों के नमूने भी मिले हैं, जिन्हें फोरेंसिक जांच के लिए भेजा जाएगा।

पुलिस अधिकारियों का कहना है कि पूछताछ के दौरान आरोपी ने कथित तौर पर स्वीकार किया कि उसने बच्ची का अपहरण करने के लिए लगभग 45 मिनट तक मौके का इंतजार किया। जांचकर्ताओं के अनुसार, वह उस समय की तलाश में था जब बच्ची अपने परिवार से थोड़ी दूर हो जाए। घटना सोमवार तड़के उस समय हुई, जब बच्ची अपने माता-पिता के साथ दक्षिण दिल्ली के एक मेट्रो स्टेशन के पास फुटपाथ पर सो रही थी।

पुलिस के अनुसार, आरोपी ने बताया कि वह दक्षिण दिल्ली में एक यात्री को छोड़ने के बाद गुरुग्राम की ओर जा रहा था। लगभग 3:30 बजे उसकी नजर फुटपाथ पर सो रहे परिवार पर पड़ी। शुरुआत में उसने बच्ची को उठाने का विचार छोड़ दिया क्योंकि वह अपने पिता के बिल्कुल पास सो रही थी और उसकी छोटी बहनें भी वहीं मौजूद थीं।

जांचकर्ताओं का कहना है कि आरोपी ने करीब 45 मिनट तक इंतजार किया। जब बच्ची नींद में करवट बदलते हुए परिवार से कुछ दूर हो गई, तब उसने कथित रूप से उसका मुंह ढककर उसे कार में बैठाया और वहां से फरार हो गया।

बच्ची के पिता ने पुलिस को बताया कि उन्हें हलचल की आवाज सुनकर नींद खुली। उन्होंने अपनी बेटी की मदद के लिए पुकार भी सुनी, लेकिन जब तक वे वाहन तक पहुंचते, आरोपी वहां से निकल चुका था।

पूछताछ के दौरान आरोपी ने कथित रूप से बताया कि बच्ची के विरोध करने पर उसने उसके साथ मारपीट की। पुलिस का कहना है कि इसके बाद वह उसे शहर से दूर एक सुनसान जंगल वाले इलाके में ले गया, जहां कथित रूप से अपराध को अंजाम दिया गया।

जांच अधिकारियों के अनुसार, आरोपी बाद में उस स्थान पर भी लौटा जहां से बच्ची का अपहरण किया गया था। लेकिन वहां पुलिस और बच्ची के परिजनों की तलाश करते देखकर वह बिना रुके वहां से चला गया।

पुलिस सूत्रों का कहना है कि आरोपी कथित रूप से गुरुग्राम-फरीदाबाद सीमा की ओर गया, जहां उसने बच्ची की हत्या करने के बाद शव को अरावली पहाड़ियों के पास छोड़ दिया। जांचकर्ताओं का यह भी दावा है कि उसने पहचान छिपाने और सबूत मिटाने का प्रयास किया।

पुलिस के अनुसार, घटना के बाद आरोपी ने सामान्य रूप से कैब चलाना जारी रखा और एक अन्य यात्री को पश्चिमी दिल्ली के विकासपुरी तक छोड़ा। इसके बाद दिल्ली पुलिस ने तकनीकी और अन्य साक्ष्यों के आधार पर उसका पता लगाकर सुबह लगभग 11 बजे उसे गिरफ्तार कर लिया। मामले की जांच अभी जारी है और फोरेंसिक रिपोर्ट इस केस में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाएगी।
