Headless Woman’s Body Found in Train at Lucknow’s Gomtinagar Station, Police Launch Multi-State Probe

A horrifying discovery at Gomtinagar Railway Station on Sunday morning shocked railway staff and passengers alike after a woman’s dismembered body was found inside a sleeper coach of the Chhapra-Gomtinagar Express train.

According to police, the remains are believed to be of a woman aged between 25 and 30 years. Investigators are now working to identify the victim and trace those responsible for the brutal crime.

The incident came to light after the train, which operates between Chhapra in Bihar and Lucknow via Gorakhpur, reached its final destination.

Once passengers had left the train, railway employees began their routine inspection of the coaches.

During the check, they noticed a trunk and a large bag placed near the washroom area inside one of the sleeper compartments.

Railway Police officials were immediately informed. Speaking about the case, Railway SP Rohit Mishra said officers rushed to the spot after receiving the alert from station authorities.

“When the trunk and bag were opened, a woman’s headless torso was found wrapped inside polythene sheets. The severed arms and legs were packed separately in another bag,” Mishra said.

Police officials added that the victim’s head is still missing, making identification extremely difficult at this stage. A case has been registered, and multiple teams have been formed to investigate every possible lead.

Authorities recovered several items of clothing from the trunk and the bag, but so far, none of the items has helped establish the woman’s identity or where she may have come from.

According to the police, three separate investigation teams have been constituted. One of the teams has already been sent to Bihar to trace the origin of the luggage and gather information related to the train’s journey.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while investigators suspect the remains may have been loaded onto the train at one of the many stations where it halted en route to Lucknow.

The Chhapra-Gomtinagar Express reportedly takes nearly 12 hours to complete its journey and stops at around 20 stations along the route.

Police are now planning to examine CCTV footage from railway stations covered by the train to identify any suspicious movement or individuals carrying the trunk and a bag onto the coach.

Investigators also revealed disturbing details about how the remains had been packed. The woman’s legs had reportedly been severed below the knees, while her hands were cut below the elbows. Each body part was carefully wrapped in polythene before being arranged inside a cotton bag.

Officials noted that there were no visible bloodstains on the luggage, indicating that considerable effort had been made to clean, seal, and conceal the remains.

Clothes were strategically placed over the packets, possibly to avoid raising suspicion among passengers or railway staff during the journey.

The gruesome case has triggered panic and concern among railway authorities, while police continue their search for the victim’s identity and the people behind the crime.
