Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for securing a record-extending eighth Asia Cup championship, praising the side for displaying confidence, consistency and determination throughout its campaign.
India capped an unbeaten group-stage run and a dominant semifinal performance against Bangladesh with a commanding 72-run victory over Sri Lanka in the final in Dubai.
Calling the achievement a proud occasion for Indian cricket, Modi said the team’s success could motivate young people across the country to take up the sport.
In a social media message, the Prime Minister lauded the players for maintaining their composure and competitive spirit throughout the tournament.
He also expressed hope that the title-winning performance would encourage millions of youngsters to pursue cricket and aim for excellence.
India’s imposing total was built around a spectacular opening partnership between Shafali Verma and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana.
After captain Harmanpreet Kaur chose to bat first, the opening pair immediately put Sri Lanka under pressure, adding 129 runs in only 12.5 overs.
Shafali produced an attacking 68 from 39 deliveries, smashing nine boundaries and two sixes.
Mandhana was equally influential, compiling 59 off 39 balls with five fours and three sixes.
Their rapid stand gave India the ideal platform for a substantial total.
Sri Lanka managed to slow the scoring rate during the middle portion of the innings and India subsequently lost several wickets in quick succession.
The hosts, however, regained momentum at the death when young Gunalan Kamalini struck 15 from just five deliveries.
India eventually closed its innings at 183 for five, making it the second-highest first-innings total in a Women’s T20I tournament final.
The record remains 184 for four, scored by Australia against India in the 2020 T20 World Cup final in Melbourne.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers to claim wickets included Mithali Ayodhya, Chamari Athapaththu and Chamudi Praboda, who finished with figures of 1/33, 1/34 and 1/40 respectively.
Chasing 184 for victory, Sri Lanka struggled to build a sustained response and was eventually dismissed for 111 in 20 overs.
Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with 36, while Nilakshika Silva contributed 22, but the Sri Lankan batting line-up could not withstand India’s disciplined attack.
Shree Charani emerged as India’s leading wicket-taker, producing an impressive spell of 4/20.
Deepti Sharma added two wickets as India completed a comprehensive victory and secured another landmark Asia Cup triumph.

भारत ने ग्रुप चरण में अजेय रहते हुए फाइनल तक का सफर तय किया था।
इसके बाद सेमीफाइनल में बांग्लादेश के खिलाफ दमदार जीत दर्ज की और दुबई में खेले गए खिताबी मुकाबले में श्रीलंका को 72 रन से हराकर ट्रॉफी अपने नाम कर ली। प्रधानमंत्री ने इस जीत को भारतीय क्रिकेट के लिए गौरव का क्षण बताया।
सोशल मीडिया पर अपने संदेश में मोदी ने भारतीय खिलाड़ियों के पूरे टूर्नामेंट में नजर आए आत्मविश्वास और निरंतर प्रदर्शन की प्रशंसा की।

भारत की पारी को मजबूत शुरुआत देने में सलामी बल्लेबाज शफाली वर्मा और उपकप्तान स्मृति मंधाना की भूमिका बेहद अहम रही।
कप्तान हरमनप्रीत कौर के पहले बल्लेबाजी करने के फैसले के बाद दोनों ने श्रीलंकाई गेंदबाजों पर शुरू से दबाव बनाया और महज 12.5 ओवर में 129 रन की साझेदारी कर डाली।
शफाली ने 39 गेंदों पर 68 रन की आक्रामक पारी खेली। उन्होंने अपनी पारी में नौ चौके और दो छक्के लगाए। वहीं स्मृति मंधाना ने भी 39 गेंदों में 59 रन बनाकर भारत के स्कोर को गति दी। उनकी पारी में पांच चौके और तीन छक्के शामिल रहे।
मध्य ओवरों में श्रीलंका ने वापसी की कोशिश की।
भारतीय बल्लेबाजों के लिए रन बनाना कुछ मुश्किल हुआ और इसी दौरान कुछ विकेट भी तेजी से गिरे। हालांकि युवा गुनालन कमलिनी ने अंतिम ओवरों में तेजतर्रार बल्लेबाजी करते हुए केवल पांच गेंदों पर 15 रन ठोककर भारत को मजबूत स्थिति में पहुंचाया।
भारतीय टीम ने निर्धारित पारी में 183 रन पर पांच विकेट बनाए। यह महिला टी20 अंतरराष्ट्रीय टूर्नामेंट के फाइनल में पहली पारी का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा स्कोर रहा।
इस मामले में रिकॉर्ड अभी भी ऑस्ट्रेलिया के नाम है, जिसने मेलबर्न में 2020 टी20 विश्व कप फाइनल में भारत के खिलाफ 184/4 का स्कोर बनाया था।
श्रीलंका की ओर से मिथाली अयोध्या, चमारी अटापट्टू और चामुडी प्रबोदा ने एक-एक विकेट हासिल किया। उनके गेंदबाजी आंकड़े क्रमशः 1/33, 1/34 और 1/40 रहे।
