Iran Criticises US Military Presence in Gulf as Peace Talks Progress; Maritime Security Concerns Persist
Iran Rejects US-GCC Statement, Calls It ‘Provocative’
Iran has strongly criticised the continued presence of American military forces in the Gulf region, arguing that it contributes to instability, insecurity and divisions among regional countries.
Tehran’s response came after the release of a joint statement by the United States and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which Iran described as “interventionist, irresponsible and provocative.”
In an official statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Tehran reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz should be jointly administered by Iran and Oman, in accordance with the understanding outlined in its memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States.
Hezbollah Chief Demands Israeli Withdrawal from Lebanon
Meanwhile, the leader of Hezbollah said Israel must withdraw from Lebanon without any conditions following the interim peace understanding between the United States and Iran.
According to reports, he described the agreement as a political setback for both the US and Israel, claiming it reflected a shift in the regional balance.
His remarks come at a time when diplomatic efforts are continuing alongside heightened tensions across West Asia.
IAEA Expects Access to Iranian Nuclear Sites
The interim understanding reached between Washington and Tehran includes provisions allowing inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to resume inspections in Iran, according to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
Speaking during a press conference in Japan, Grossi said the agreement requires Iran to provide access to the UN nuclear watchdog.
“There is an agreement and to comply with that agreement, the IAEA will have to have access and inspect. We hope to be there soon,” Grossi said.
However, Iranian officials have indicated that certain strategic nuclear facilities will remain inaccessible until a comprehensive agreement is finalised and international sanctions imposed on Tehran are lifted.
Merchant Vessel Reportedly Hit Near Oman Coast
Maritime security concerns also intensified after a commercial vessel was reportedly struck by a projectile off the coast of Oman.
The incident occurred shortly after several tankers used a UN-supported maritime corridor established to facilitate safe navigation through the region.
British military authorities confirmed that a vessel had been hit, though details surrounding the incident remained under investigation.
UN-Backed Shipping Plan Temporarily Suspended
Following the reported attack, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced that its plan to move stranded commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz would remain temporarily suspended.
IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said evacuation efforts would resume only after safety guarantees could be confirmed for ships included in the evacuation programme as well as for other commercial traffic operating in the area.
Iran Warns Against Unauthorised Transit Through Strait
The reported strike came only hours after Iran warned commercial vessels against using the maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz without Tehran’s permission.
According to officials, the vessel that came under attack was not part of the UN-supported evacuation operation.
US Official Alleges Iranian Drone Attack
A US official, speaking anonymously because of the sensitivity of the matter, told The Associated Press that the merchant vessel Ever Lovely was allegedly struck by a drone operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The allegation has not been independently verified in the information provided, and investigations into the incident are continuing.

इस बीच हिजबुल्लाह के प्रमुख ने अमेरिका और ईरान के बीच हुए अंतरिम शांति समझौते के बाद इजराइल से लेबनान छोड़ने की मांग की। उन्होंने कहा कि इजराइल को बिना किसी शर्त के लेबनान से अपनी सैन्य मौजूदगी समाप्त करनी चाहिए।
रिपोर्टों के अनुसार, उन्होंने इस अंतरिम समझौते को अमेरिका और इजराइल के लिए राजनीतिक पराजय का संकेत बताते हुए कहा कि इससे क्षेत्रीय समीकरणों में बदलाव दिखाई देता है।
आईएईए को निरीक्षण की उम्मीद
अंतरराष्ट्रीय परमाणु ऊर्जा एजेंसी (आईएईए) के महानिदेशक राफेल ग्रोसी ने कहा कि अमेरिका और ईरान के बीच हुए अंतरिम समझौते के तहत एजेंसी के निरीक्षकों को ईरान में परमाणु प्रतिष्ठानों का निरीक्षण करने की अनुमति मिलनी चाहिए।
जापान में आयोजित एक संवाददाता सम्मेलन में ग्रोसी ने कहा कि समझौते का पालन करने के लिए आईएईए को निरीक्षण का अधिकार मिलना आवश्यक है।
