Jeetendra Mishra Named First CEO of Ram Mandir Trust in Major Ayodhya Overhaul
Former Western Air Command chief brings nearly four decades of military leadership as Trust separates policy-making from day-to-day temple administration
AYODHYA: The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has introduced its most significant administrative changes since its formation, appointing retired Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra as its first Chief Executive Officer and inducting three new trustees, including its first woman member.
The decision comes at a crucial juncture for the Trust, which faced an internal shake-up after an alleged donation-fund theft case led to the registration of an FIR and the arrest of eight people in June.
The latest restructuring aims to strengthen administrative oversight and establish a dedicated mechanism for the temple’s routine operations.
Mishra, who retired from the Indian Air Force in April, has been chosen from a field of 5,585 applicants.
He emerged as the final candidate from a three-person shortlist prepared by a selection panel comprising retired Supreme Court judge Justice Pramod Kohli, retired Lt General Vishnu Kant Chaturvedi and Suresh Haware, a former nuclear scientist who also headed the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust in Shirdi.
The new arrangement gives the CEO responsibility for the Trust’s day-to-day operations, while the trustees are expected to focus more closely on broader policy and institutional decisions.
The move marks a departure from the earlier system in which several operational responsibilities were handled directly by members of the Trust.
Mishra, speaking after his appointment, described the new responsibility as a matter of great personal fortune.
He said his nearly 43 years of service in the Air Force had prepared him for the opportunity to serve the Ram temple and devotees of Lord Ram.
The appointment has particular significance because of Mishra’s role in India’s military operations against Pakistan in May 2025.
As the then Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Air Command, he was among the senior officers associated with the planning and execution of Operation Sindoor.
He was subsequently among the military leaders honoured with the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal for their contribution to the operation.
A fighter pilot by training, Mishra was commissioned into the IAF on December 6, 1986.
Over a service career spanning nearly four decades, he accumulated more than 3,000 hours of flying experience and served in a range of operational, testing and senior command assignments.
His career included command of a fighter squadron, service as Chief Test Pilot at the Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment, leadership of two frontline air bases and senior appointments in the Integrated Defence Staff.
He also served as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff for Operations as well as for Doctrine, Organisation and Training.
Mishra, originally from Bhopatpura in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district, received training at several prominent institutions in India and abroad.
He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy in Pune, the Air Force Test Pilots School in Bengaluru, the Air Command and Staff College in the United States and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the United Kingdom.
His public profile rose further after an official visit to the Adampur air base in Punjab with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2025, soon after India and Pakistan agreed to halt military action following Operation Sindoor.
The visit was also intended to underline India’s military preparedness amid Pakistan’s campaign of competing claims and disinformation.
Alongside Mishra’s appointment, the Trust announced changes to its senior office-bearer structure.
Swami Govind Dev Giri has been named general secretary, while businessman Mahesh Bhagchandka, chairman of M2K Group and one of the newly inducted trustees, will take charge as treasurer.
The two other additions to the board are Madan Mohan Pandey, former Additional Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh who played an important role in the legal proceedings surrounding the Ram Janmabhoomi dispute, and Dr Nirmala Yadav, a retired college principal from Shikohabad.
Yadav’s induction makes her the first woman to serve as a trustee of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust.
The Trust had already begun reorganising its leadership after the alleged financial irregularities came to light.
Three office-bearers, including then general secretary Champat Rai, resigned following the FIR and arrests, while retired Indian Forest Service officer Krishna Mohan was brought in as interim general secretary.
Two special investigation teams were subsequently constituted to examine the allegations.
With Mishra now set to take charge of the newly created CEO position, the Trust is effectively introducing a more professionalised administrative model for the Ram Mandir.
The appointment of a senior former military commander, coupled with the reshuffling of key positions, signals an attempt to bring greater managerial discipline and clearer separation between governance and execution at the temple complex.

पूर्व एयर मार्शल जीतेंद्र मिश्रा को श्री राम जन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र ट्रस्ट का पहला CEO नियुक्त किया गया। ट्रस्ट में पहली महिला न्यासी समेत तीन नए सदस्य शामिल किए गए।

अयोध्या: श्री राम जन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र ट्रस्ट ने अयोध्या स्थित राम मंदिर की प्रशासनिक व्यवस्था में बड़ा बदलाव करते हुए सेवानिवृत्त एयर मार्शल जीतेंद्र मिश्रा को अपना पहला मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी (CEO) नियुक्त किया है।
इसके साथ ही ट्रस्ट में तीन नए न्यासियों को शामिल किया गया है, जिनमें पहली बार एक महिला को भी स्थान मिला है।
ट्रस्ट का यह पुनर्गठन ऐसे समय में हुआ है जब दान की रकम में कथित हेराफेरी और चोरी के मामले ने उसकी आंतरिक व्यवस्था पर सवाल खड़े किए थे।
जून में इस मामले में प्राथमिकी दर्ज होने के बाद आठ लोगों की गिरफ्तारी हुई थी। इसके बाद ट्रस्ट के तीन पदाधिकारियों ने अपने पद छोड़ दिए थे।
अब नई व्यवस्था के जरिए मंदिर के दैनिक संचालन और नीतिगत फैसलों के बीच अधिक स्पष्ट जिम्मेदारी तय करने की कोशिश की गई है।
जीतेंद्र मिश्रा का चयन 5,585 आवेदनों में से तैयार की गई तीन उम्मीदवारों की अंतिम सूची के आधार पर किया गया।
उनके चयन के लिए गठित समिति में सेवानिवृत्त सुप्रीम कोर्ट न्यायाधीश न्यायमूर्ति प्रमोद कोहली, सेवानिवृत्त लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल विष्णु कांत चतुर्वेदी और पूर्व परमाणु वैज्ञानिक सुरेश हावरे शामिल थे।
हावरे शिरडी के श्री साईबाबा संस्थान ट्रस्ट के प्रमुख के रूप में भी काम कर चुके हैं।
नई व्यवस्था के तहत CEO मंदिर और ट्रस्ट से जुड़े रोजमर्रा के प्रशासनिक कामकाज की निगरानी करेंगे। इसके विपरीत, ट्रस्ट के न्यासी प्रमुख नीतिगत और संस्थागत निर्णयों पर अधिक ध्यान केंद्रित करेंगे।
इस बदलाव से पहले कई प्रशासनिक एवं संचालन संबंधी जिम्मेदारियां सीधे ट्रस्ट के पदाधिकारियों के स्तर पर संभाली जाती थीं।
नियुक्ति के बाद अपनी प्रतिक्रिया में मिश्रा ने इस जिम्मेदारी को अपने लिए सौभाग्य बताया। उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय वायुसेना में लगभग 43 वर्षों की सेवा के बाद उन्हें राम मंदिर और भगवान राम के श्रद्धालुओं की सेवा का अवसर मिलना उनके लिए विशेष सम्मान है।
मिश्रा का चयन इसलिए भी महत्वपूर्ण माना जा रहा है क्योंकि मई 2025 में हुए ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के दौरान वह पश्चिमी वायु कमान के एयर ऑफिसर कमांडिंग-इन-चीफ थे।
भारत-पाकिस्तान सैन्य टकराव के दौरान वह वरिष्ठ सैन्य अधिकारियों में शामिल रहे, जिन्होंने अभियान की योजना और संचालन में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।
बाद में ऑपरेशन सिंदूर में योगदान के लिए उन्हें सर्वोत्तम युद्ध सेवा पदक से सम्मानित किया गया।
लड़ाकू विमान के पायलट के रूप में वायुसेना में शामिल हुए मिश्रा ने 6 दिसंबर 1986 को कमीशन प्राप्त किया था।
लगभग चार दशक लंबे सैन्य करियर में उन्होंने 3,000 घंटे से अधिक उड़ान का अनुभव हासिल किया और संचालन, परीक्षण, कमान तथा रणनीतिक योजना से जुड़ी कई महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारियां निभाईं।
उनकी सेवाओं में एक फाइटर स्क्वाड्रन की कमान, एयरक्राफ्ट एंड सिस्टम्स टेस्टिंग एस्टैब्लिशमेंट में चीफ टेस्ट पायलट की जिम्मेदारी और दो अग्रिम वायु ठिकानों के एयर ऑफिसर कमांडिंग का पद शामिल रहे।
इसके अलावा वह इंटीग्रेटेड डिफेंस स्टाफ में ऑपरेशंस तथा डॉक्ट्रिन, ऑर्गनाइजेशन एंड ट्रेनिंग से जुड़े उप प्रमुख पदों पर भी रहे।
उत्तर प्रदेश के देवरिया जिले के भोपालतपुरा से संबंध रखने वाले मिश्रा ने देश-विदेश के प्रतिष्ठित सैन्य संस्थानों से प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त किया है।
उन्होंने पुणे स्थित राष्ट्रीय रक्षा अकादमी, बेंगलुरु के एयर फोर्स टेस्ट पायलट्स स्कूल, अमेरिका के एयर कमांड एंड स्टाफ कॉलेज तथा ब्रिटेन के रॉयल कॉलेज ऑफ डिफेंस स्टडीज में अध्ययन किया।
मई 2025 में ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के बाद प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के साथ पंजाब के आदमपुर एयरबेस की उनकी यात्रा भी चर्चा में रही थी।
भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच सैन्य कार्रवाई रोकने की सहमति बनने के बाद हुई इस यात्रा का उद्देश्य भारत की सैन्य तैयारियों को प्रदर्शित करना और पाकिस्तान की ओर से चलाए जा रहे दुष्प्रचार के बीच स्थिति को स्पष्ट करना भी था।
ट्रस्ट ने नेतृत्व में अन्य बदलाव भी किए हैं।
स्वामी गोविंद देव गिरि को नया महासचिव बनाया गया है, जबकि नव नियुक्त न्यासी और M2K ग्रुप के चेयरमैन महेश भगचंदका को कोषाध्यक्ष की जिम्मेदारी सौंपी गई है।
न्यासियों के रूप में शामिल किए गए दो अन्य नाम मदन मोहन पांडेय और डॉ. निर्मला यादव हैं।
पांडेय उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्व अपर महाधिवक्ता रहे हैं और राम जन्मभूमि मामले से जुड़े न्यायिक मामलों में उनकी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रही है।
वहीं, शिकोहाबाद की सेवानिवृत्त कॉलेज प्राचार्य डॉ. निर्मला यादव ट्रस्ट की पहली महिला न्यासी बनी हैं।
कथित वित्तीय अनियमितताओं के मामले के सामने आने के बाद ट्रस्ट की शीर्ष व्यवस्था में पहले ही बदलाव शुरू हो गया था।
प्राथमिकी और गिरफ्तारियों के बाद तत्कालीन महासचिव चंपत राय समेत तीन पदाधिकारियों ने इस्तीफा दिया था।
इसके बाद सेवानिवृत्त भारतीय वन सेवा अधिकारी कृष्ण मोहन को अंतरिम महासचिव बनाया गया। मामले की जांच के लिए दो विशेष जांच दल भी गठित किए गए थे।
पहली बार CEO का पद सृजित कर ट्रस्ट ने राम मंदिर प्रशासन को अधिक स्पष्ट और पेशेवर ढांचे में लाने की दिशा में कदम बढ़ाया है।
मिश्रा की नियुक्ति के साथ अब मंदिर के संचालन की जिम्मेदारी एक पूर्णकालिक प्रशासनिक प्रमुख के हाथ में होगी, जबकि ट्रस्ट व्यापक नीतिगत मामलों पर अपनी भूमिका केंद्रित कर सकेगा।
