Jharkhand JPSC Protest Intensifies: Students Expand Hunger Strike, Demand CBI Investigation into 14th Civil Services Examination
The student movement seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into alleged irregularities in the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Examination gathered further momentum on Tuesday as five additional aspirants launched an indefinite hunger strike at Jaipal Singh Stadium in Ranchi.
The protesters are also demanding resolution of several related issues concerning the recruitment process.
The latest phase of the agitation began shortly after participants concluded a Shradhanjali March organised to commemorate the first death anniversary of veteran tribal leader and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Dishom Guru Shibu Soren.
The demonstration has now entered its tenth consecutive day.
Protest spokesperson Ravindra Kumar Paswan said the indefinite fast commenced with five students and would gradually expand.
According to him, five more participants will join the hunger strike each day until the state government announces a CBI investigation into the alleged examination irregularities.
The escalation follows a similar fast launched a day earlier by Jharkhand Krantikari Loktantrik Morcha (JKLM) leader Devendranath Mahto, who began his own hunger strike at the same venue while supporting the students’ demands.
Apart from strengthening the ongoing protest, student groups have also announced a series of demonstrations aimed at increasing pressure on the state administration.
A major march towards the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly has been planned as part of the next phase of the campaign.
Different organisations have announced separate schedules for the proposed Assembly march.
The Jharkhand Krantikari Loktantrik Morcha has fixed its programme for August 6, while the All India Students’ Association (AISA), along with several people’s organisations, has scheduled its mobilisation for August 7.
Independent aspirants, who describe themselves as non-political participants and insist that the movement should remain free from political influence, have announced a separate march on August 10 to reinforce their demand for a transparent investigation.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly extended support to the protesting students through a post on social media platform X.
In his message, Sarma said he had closely observed the frustration, anxiety and grievances of JSSC-CGL candidates during the Jharkhand Assembly election campaign.
He stated that he understood the concerns of students who were now protesting for fairness and the protection of their future.
The Assam Chief Minister further alleged that the situation could have been avoided had the Jharkhand government addressed the students’ complaints with greater sensitivity and transparency at an earlier stage.
Referring to repeated allegations of recruitment irregularities and examination paper leaks, he claimed that uncertainty had placed the future of a large number of young aspirants at risk.

झारखंड लोक सेवा आयोग (JPSC) की 14वीं सिविल सेवा परीक्षा में कथित अनियमितताओं की केंद्रीय अन्वेषण ब्यूरो (CBI) से जांच कराने की मांग को लेकर चल रहा छात्र आंदोलन मंगलवार को और तेज हो गया।
रांची के जयपाल सिंह स्टेडियम में पांच और अभ्यर्थियों ने अनिश्चितकालीन भूख हड़ताल शुरू कर दी। प्रदर्शनकारी भर्ती प्रक्रिया से जुड़े अन्य लंबित मुद्दों के समाधान की भी मांग कर रहे हैं।
आंदोलन के इस नए चरण की शुरुआत वरिष्ठ आदिवासी नेता एवं पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री दिशोम गुरु शिबू सोरेन की पहली पुण्यतिथि पर आयोजित श्रद्धांजलि मार्च के समापन के बाद हुई।
इसके साथ ही छात्रों का विरोध प्रदर्शन लगातार दसवें दिन में प्रवेश कर गया।
आंदोलन के प्रवक्ता रविंद्र कुमार पासवान ने बताया कि फिलहाल पांच छात्रों ने आमरण अनशन शुरू किया है।
उन्होंने कहा कि जब तक राज्य सरकार CBI जांच की घोषणा नहीं करती, तब तक प्रतिदिन पांच नए छात्र भूख हड़ताल में शामिल होते रहेंगे।
यह कदम झारखंड क्रांतिकारी लोकतांत्रिक मोर्चा (JKLM) के नेता देवेंद्रनाथ महतो द्वारा एक दिन पहले उसी स्थान पर शुरू किए गए अनशन के बाद उठाया गया है।
महतो भी छात्रों की मांगों के समर्थन में आंदोलन कर रहे हैं।
प्रदर्शन को और व्यापक बनाने के लिए छात्र संगठनों ने आगामी दिनों में कई कार्यक्रमों की घोषणा की है।
राज्य सरकार पर दबाव बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से झारखंड विधानसभा की ओर मार्च निकालने की तैयारी की गई है।
विभिन्न संगठनों ने इस कार्यक्रम के लिए अलग-अलग तिथियां निर्धारित की हैं।
झारखंड क्रांतिकारी लोकतांत्रिक मोर्चा ने 6 अगस्त को विधानसभा मार्च का ऐलान किया है, जबकि ऑल इंडिया स्टूडेंट्स एसोसिएशन (AISA) तथा अन्य जन संगठनों ने 7 अगस्त को अपना कार्यक्रम घोषित किया है।
राजनीतिक दलों से दूरी बनाए रखने वाले स्वतंत्र छात्र समूहों ने भी स्पष्ट किया है कि उनका आंदोलन पूरी तरह गैर-राजनीतिक रहेगा।
ऐसे छात्रों ने 10 अगस्त को अलग विधानसभा मार्च आयोजित करने का निर्णय लिया है ताकि निष्पक्ष जांच की मांग को और मजबूती मिल सके।
इस बीच असम के मुख्यमंत्री हिमंत बिस्वा सरमा ने सोशल मीडिया मंच एक्स पर संदेश जारी कर आंदोलनरत छात्रों के प्रति समर्थन व्यक्त किया।
उन्होंने कहा कि झारखंड विधानसभा चुनाव के दौरान उन्हें JSSC-CGL अभ्यर्थियों की भर्ती प्रक्रिया को लेकर व्याप्त असंतोष, चिंता और नाराजगी को निकट से समझने का अवसर मिला था।
उन्होंने कहा कि वर्तमान में न्याय और अपने भविष्य की सुरक्षा के लिए संघर्ष कर रहे छात्रों की भावनाओं को वह भलीभांति समझते हैं।
अपने संदेश में सरमा ने यह भी कहा कि यदि झारखंड सरकार ने छात्रों की शिकायतों पर समय रहते संवेदनशीलता और पारदर्शिता के साथ कार्रवाई की होती, तो स्थिति इतनी गंभीर नहीं बनती।
उन्होंने भर्ती प्रक्रिया में कथित अनियमितताओं और प्रश्नपत्र लीक के आरोपों का उल्लेख करते हुए कहा कि इन विवादों के कारण बड़ी संख्या में युवाओं का भविष्य अनिश्चितता के दौर से गुजर रहा है।
