Jhunsi Moves Closer to Ganga Water Supply After Central Clearance
Prayagraj: Residents of Jhunsi could soon have access to treated Ganga water at their homes, with the long-pending proposal to draw water from the river receiving approval from the Central Water Commission.
The move is expected to pave the way for a structured drinking-water network in one of Prayagraj’s rapidly expanding areas.
A substantial portion of the city already depends on river water for its drinking-water needs.
In large stretches of the old city, including Civil Lines, water drawn from the Yamuna is processed at treatment facilities before being supplied to households.
The proposed project will extend a similar treatment-based system to Jhunsi, but with the Ganga as its source.
The proposal had remained under consideration with the Central Water Commission and the Irrigation Department for nearly a year.
Following the clearance, the Jal Nigam has begun preparations to formulate the Detailed Project Report (DPR), which will lay out the technical and implementation framework for the proposed scheme.
At the heart of the project is a planned water treatment facility with a capacity of 11 crore litres a day.
Water drawn from the Ganga will first undergo treatment at the plant before being carried through a dedicated pipeline network to homes in Jhunsi.
The project is particularly significant because Jhunsi currently lacks a uniform, integrated water-supply system.
While some localities receive groundwater through tubewells, residents of several villages continue to depend on hand pumps for their daily water requirements.
This has resulted in varying sources and levels of access to drinking water across the area.
Once the Ganga water scheme becomes operational, households in Jhunsi are expected to receive water through a more consistent supply network.
Beyond addressing existing requirements, the proposed infrastructure is also intended to strengthen the area’s preparedness for rising demand as Jhunsi continues to expand and its population grows.

प्रयागराज: झूंसी के लोगों को आने वाले समय में घर बैठे गंगाजल मिलने की उम्मीद बढ़ गई है। लंबे समय से लंबित गंगा से पानी लेने की योजना को केंद्रीय जल आयोग की स्वीकृति मिल गई है।
इसके साथ ही तेजी से विस्तार ले रहे झूंसी क्षेत्र में व्यवस्थित पेयजल आपूर्ति की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण कदम उठाया गया है।
प्रयागराज के बड़े हिस्से में पहले से ही नदी के पानी को शोधित करके पेयजल के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जाता है।
सिविल लाइंस सहित पुराने शहर के कई इलाकों में यमुना से लिए गए पानी का ट्रीटमेंट प्लांट में शोधन करने के बाद पाइपलाइन के जरिए घरों तक वितरण किया जाता है।
अब इसी तर्ज पर झूंसी में गंगा को पेयजल का स्रोत बनाने की तैयारी है।
गंगा से पानी लेने का प्रस्ताव करीब एक वर्ष से केंद्रीय जल आयोग और सिंचाई विभाग के स्तर पर लंबित था।
मंजूरी मिलने के बाद जल निगम ने परियोजना की डीपीआर (डिटेल प्रोजेक्ट रिपोर्ट) तैयार करने की प्रक्रिया शुरू करने की तैयारी कर ली है।
डीपीआर में योजना के तकनीकी पहलुओं और इसके क्रियान्वयन का विस्तृत खाका तैयार किया जाएगा।
प्रस्तावित योजना के तहत झूंसी में प्रतिदिन 11 करोड़ लीटर क्षमता वाला वाटर ट्रीटमेंट प्लांट स्थापित किया जाएगा।
गंगा से निर्धारित मात्रा में पानी लेने के बाद उसे संयंत्र में शोधित किया जाएगा और फिर पाइपलाइन नेटवर्क के माध्यम से क्षेत्र के घरों तक पहुंचाया जाएगा।
वर्तमान में झूंसी में पेयजल की एक समान और एकीकृत व्यवस्था नहीं है।
कुछ इलाकों में नलकूपों के जरिये पानी उपलब्ध कराया जाता है, जबकि कई गांवों में लोग आज भी हैंडपंप पर निर्भर हैं। अलग-अलग स्रोतों पर निर्भरता के कारण पूरे क्षेत्र में पेयजल उपलब्धता का स्वरूप भी एक जैसा नहीं है।
गंगाजल आपूर्ति योजना लागू होने के बाद झूंसी के घरों को एक संगठित नेटवर्क के माध्यम से पानी उपलब्ध कराने में मदद मिलेगी।
इससे मौजूदा जरूरतों को पूरा करने के साथ-साथ क्षेत्र की बढ़ती आबादी की भविष्य की पेयजल मांग को संभालने के लिए भी आधारभूत ढांचा तैयार होगा।
तेजी से विकसित हो रहे झूंसी के लिए यह परियोजना दीर्घकालिक जलापूर्ति व्यवस्था की दिशा में अहम साबित हो सकती है।
