Judicial work in all courts paralysed on Monday due to lawyers strike in protest against baton charge on lawyers in Ghaziabad

Working in the Allahabad High Court  came to standstill on Monday, as the lawyers on a call given by the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) boycotted the judicial work in protest against recent cane charging on lawyers of Ghaziabad district court on October 29, reportedly at the instance of district judge, Ghaziabad.
The lawyers led by president of HCBA, Anil Tiwari and its secretary – Vikrant Pandey assembled at the main gate of high court (gate no- 3) on Monday and burnt the effigy of the police as a mark of their protest against the brutal cane charging on lawyers at Ghaziabad district court premises.
In a press release issued by joint secretary press of HCBA, Puneet Kumar Shukla, a criminal contempt petition has been prepared on behalf of the HCBA against the district judge of Ghaziabad – Anil Kumar – X, which will soon be filed before the high court.
However, the HCBA in its press release has made it clear that the lawyers would resume judicial work on Tuesday (November 5).
Like high court, the lawyers belonging to Prayagraj’s  district court, central administrative tribunal (CAT), board of revenue and other judicial places boycotted the judicial work on the similar issues.
It is relevant to mention that the Bar Council of UP, the apex body of the lawyers of the state, had urged the lawyers across the state to register their protest on Monday (November 4) in protest against the cane charging on the lawyers of Ghaziabad on October 29.
Earlier, on November 3, the HCBA, in a resolution, had demanded immediate suspension of district judge, Ghaziabad and also of the concerned police officers. Besides, it had also demanded compensation to the injured lawyers.
In its resolution, the HCBA had also demanded of the high court administration to take such stern step so that such types of incidents were not repeated in future.
It is relevant to mention that lawyers and baton-wielding police personal came to blows in courtroom in Ghaziabad on Tuesday (October 29) after the district judge called the force in to remove a protesting lawyers raising slogan against him over a disagreement.
Some of the lawyers claimed they suffered injuries as police personnel used batons on them, and police officials alleged that agitating advocates set local police outpost on fire.
