A sudden surge in a stream at Pasu Pani swept away two shelters housing 5th Grenadiers personnel; a separate landslide in Upper Subansiri killed four people.
Itanagar: A search operation involving the Army, disaster-response forces and local authorities was underway in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday after a sudden surge of floodwater swept through a remote military camp in Dibang Valley, leaving five Army personnel missing.
The incident unfolded on Friday afternoon at Pasu Pani, about 25 km beyond Mipi Circle.
A normally flowing stream rose sharply at around 4:30 pm, sending water into the surrounding area and catching personnel at the 5th Grenadiers camp off guard.
Seven Army personnel were caught in the rushing water after two shelters at the camp were swept away, Dibang Valley Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar said.
Two personnel were subsequently rescued, but five others could not be traced.
The missing personnel have been identified as Havaldar Upendar and soldiers Kundan, Vinod, Aditya and Samunda.
The priority of the rescue operation is to locate the five missing personnel. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the district disaster management authorities have been deployed, with personnel searching the affected stretch.
The military has supplemented the operation with two search teams from the 5th Grenadiers.
The 58th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), personnel of the 62 RCC of the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF), Arunachal Pradesh Police and residents are also assisting in the search.
A 10-member SDRF team from Pasighat has joined the operation as authorities work in difficult terrain to locate the missing personnel.
Officials have yet to determine the overall damage caused to the Army installation and other infrastructure in the area.
Four Die as Landslide Buries Workers in Upper Subansiri
The disaster response in Dibang Valley coincided with another fatal incident elsewhere in the state.
Four people died on Friday after a landslide struck a road-cutting site along the Keojaring-Byaching road in Upper Subansiri district, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre.
The victims were identified as Tadu Baki, Taji Rai, Markosh Basumatari and Babul Ali.
Rescue personnel recovered Ali’s body, while operations to locate and recover the remaining victims were continuing.
Police from Nacho station were deployed at the landslide site.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel were being mobilised from Daporijo, with an SDRF team also taking part in the recovery effort.
The two incidents have brought renewed attention to the vulnerability of Arunachal Pradesh’s mountainous terrain to sudden flooding and landslides, particularly in areas where difficult access can slow emergency operations.

ईटानगर: अरुणाचल प्रदेश के दुर्गम पहाड़ी इलाके में अचानक आई बाढ़ ने सेना के एक कैंप में अफरा-तफरी मचा दी।
दिबांग वैली के पासु पानी इलाके में शुक्रवार शाम जलधारा के अचानक उफान पर आने के बाद सात सैन्यकर्मी बाढ़ के तेज बहाव में फंस गए।
दो को बचा लिया गया, लेकिन पांच जवानों का अब तक पता नहीं चल पाया है।
घटना शाम करीब 4:30 बजे की है। पासु पानी, मिपी सर्किल से करीब 25 किलोमीटर आगे स्थित है।
अधिकारियों के मुताबिक इलाके की एक बड़ी धारा अचानक तेजी से बढ़ी और उसका पानी आसपास के क्षेत्र में फैल गया।
कुछ ही देर में 5वीं ग्रेनेडियर्स के कैंप के दो शेल्टर तेज बहाव की चपेट में आकर बह गए।
दिबांग वैली के पुलिस अधीक्षक पंकज कुमार ने बताया कि बाढ़ में फंसे सात जवानों में से दो को सुरक्षित निकाल लिया गया।
पांच अन्य अभी लापता हैं। लापता जवानों की पहचान हवलदार उपेंद्र, कुंदन, विनोद, आदित्य और समुंडा के रूप में हुई है।
लापता जवानों को खोजने के लिए कई एजेंसियों को एक साथ लगाया गया है। SDRF, NDRF और जिला आपदा प्रबंधन की टीमें प्रभावित इलाके में तलाशी अभियान चला रही हैं।
सेना ने भी 5वीं ग्रेनेडियर्स की दो विशेष खोज एवं बचाव टीमों को अभियान में उतारा है।
बचाव अभियान में ITBP की 58वीं बटालियन, GREF की 62 RCC, अरुणाचल प्रदेश पुलिस और स्थानीय लोग भी सहयोग कर रहे हैं। पासीघाट से SDRF की 10 सदस्यीय टीम भी मौके पर पहुंच चुकी है।
दुर्गम पहाड़ी क्षेत्र और तेज बहाव के बीच बचाव दल लापता जवानों तक पहुंचने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं।
अधिकारियों ने बताया कि बाढ़ से सेना के कैंप और आसपास के ढांचे को कितना नुकसान हुआ है, इसका विस्तृत आकलन अभी बाकी है।
अपर सुबनसिरी में भूस्खलन ने ली चार जानें
इसी दौरान राज्य के अपर सुबनसिरी जिले में भी प्राकृतिक आपदा ने चार लोगों की जान ले ली। शुक्रवार को केओजारिंग-ब्याचिंग सड़क पर चल रहे कटिंग कार्य के दौरान अचानक भूस्खलन हुआ और कई लोग मलबे में दब गए।
राज्य आपातकालीन संचालन केंद्र के अनुसार, हादसे में तादू बाकी, ताजी राय, मार्कोश बसुमतारी और बाबुल अली की मौत हुई। बाबुल अली का शव बरामद कर लिया गया है, जबकि बाकी पीड़ितों की तलाश और मलबा हटाने का अभियान जारी था।
नाचो पुलिस थाने की टीम को घटनास्थल पर भेजा गया है। डापोरिजो से अग्निशमन एवं आपातकालीन सेवा के कर्मियों को भी बुलाया जा रहा है। SDRF की टीम राहत और खोज अभियान में मदद कर रही है।
