New Delhi: Actor and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut has once again spoken candidly about the relationship between her political identity and her long-established career in cinema, saying that while her ideological alignment with the BJP comes naturally, she does not see herself as someone who must surrender her individual voice.
In a recent interview with Doordarshan, the Mandi MP reflected on why some of her public comments have occasionally generated controversy and appeared to differ in tone from the official position of her party.
Ranaut said political association does not erase personal thought.
She indicated that she does not deliberately seek disagreement with the BJP but believes public figures sometimes need to speak strongly to cut through the noise.
Describing herself as an individual rather than a “puppet”, she said political circumstances can change and that the support of a party cannot be viewed as a permanent guarantee.
Ranaut also pointed to the contrast between her relatively recent entry into electoral politics and her two-decade-long career in the film industry.
The actor-turned-politician said her public recognition existed long before she entered Parliament and argued that she has developed an independent identity through years of work as an actor, filmmaker and writer.
According to Ranaut, her ideological association with the BJP does not require her to manufacture a public persona.
At the same time, she acknowledged that her outspoken style may occasionally create situations that do not go entirely as planned.
She also said she was still learning the complexities of political life and appeared to accept that some of her remarks may have caused discomfort within her party.
When asked where she sees herself a decade from now, Ranaut declined to present a fixed political or cinematic roadmap, citing the uncertainty of contemporary public life.
She said she does not live in fear of losing her political position or being denied an election ticket, including from Mandi, because she does not believe her identity depends solely on holding public office.
Ranaut said she has moved from a more individualistic outlook towards what she described as a greater concern for wider social causes.
However, she maintained that cinema remains an essential part of who she is and that she continues to value her work as a filmmaker and writer.
Turning to her possible return to films, Ranaut expressed confidence that she remains in demand as an actor.
She said several filmmakers have continued to approach her and ask why she stepped back from the industry.
She also dismissed the idea that a full-fledged return to Bollywood would depend on acceptance from major production houses, saying she had rejected certain industry practices and opportunities in the past.
Ranaut recalled her long-standing resistance to award ceremonies and claimed that she had previously faced significant pressure to attend such events.
She also highlighted her experience as a producer and director, noting that she has built her own production infrastructure and directed films including Manikarnika and Emergency.
The actor said she is particularly interested in roles that suit her age and personality, pointing to her portrayal of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in Thalaivii as an example of the kind of character-driven work she would prefer.
She suggested that substantial and age-appropriate roles appeal to her more than conventional Bollywood casting in which a female lead is paired with a much older male superstar.
Ranaut was last seen in her own production, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, which did not perform well commercially.
Her last major theatrical success was Manikarnika in 2019.
She is expected to return to one of her best-known roles in Queen 2, a sequel to her 2014 hit Queen.
For Ranaut, the interview underscored a familiar theme in her public life: whether in Parliament or in cinema, she appears determined to retain the independent voice that made her one of the most recognisable and polarising personalities in contemporary Indian public life.

उन्होंने स्पष्ट किया कि भाजपा के साथ उनका वैचारिक जुड़ाव स्वाभाविक है, लेकिन इसका अर्थ यह नहीं है कि वह हर परिस्थिति में अपनी व्यक्तिगत राय को समाप्त कर दें।
दूरदर्शन को दिए एक हालिया साक्षात्कार में कंगना ने अपनी बेबाक टिप्पणियों और भाजपा से जुड़े सवालों पर विस्तार से बात की।
उनसे पूछा गया कि उनके सार्वजनिक बयान व्यक्तिगत होते हैं या उन्हें पार्टी के आधिकारिक रुख के तौर पर देखा जाना चाहिए।
कंगना ने कहा कि वह जानबूझकर पार्टी की लाइन से अलग जाने की कोशिश नहीं करतीं, लेकिन सार्वजनिक जीवन में कभी-कभी अपनी बात प्रभावी ढंग से रखने के लिए कठोर या मजबूत बयान देने पड़ते हैं।
उन्होंने कहा कि व्यक्ति के अपने विचार और उसकी व्यक्तिगत पहचान का भी महत्व होता है।
अपने राजनीतिक भविष्य को लेकर उन्होंने कहा कि आज कोई पार्टी उनके साथ है तो यह जरूरी नहीं कि भविष्य में भी परिस्थितियां बिल्कुल वैसी ही रहें।
कंगना ने यह भी याद दिलाया कि उनकी पहचान फिल्मों के जरिए दो दशक पहले ही स्थापित हो चुकी थी, जबकि सक्रिय राजनीति में उनका सफर अपेक्षाकृत नया है।
अभिनेत्री ने कहा कि वह लंबे समय से सार्वजनिक जीवन में है और मीडिया उनकी बात सुनता है।
उनके अनुसार, किसी राजनीतिक दल से जुड़ने का मतलब यह नहीं कि व्यक्ति की अपनी सोच या व्यक्तित्व तुरंत समाप्त हो जाए।
उन्होंने माना कि राजनीति में नई होने के कारण कुछ परिस्थितियां ऐसी भी बन सकती हैं, जिनसे पार्टी के भीतर असहजता पैदा हुई हो।
हालांकि, कंगना ने कहा कि वह अभी राजनीति को समझ रही हैं और सीखने की प्रक्रिया में हैं।
अगले 10 वर्षों को लेकर पूछे गए सवाल पर उन्होंने किसी निश्चित योजना का खुलासा नहीं किया।
उनका कहना था कि वर्तमान समय में परिस्थितियां तेजी से बदलती हैं और इसलिए भविष्य के बारे में बिल्कुल स्पष्ट तस्वीर पेश करना आसान नहीं है।
मंडी से अगला चुनाव लड़ने या टिकट न मिलने की आशंका पर कंगना ने कहा कि वह अपनी पहचान खोने के डर से राजनीति नहीं करतीं।
उन्होंने कहा कि उनके पास एक फिल्मकार और लेखक के रूप में भी अपना करियर और काम है, जिससे उन्हें गहरा लगाव है।
उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि उनका नजरिया समय के साथ बदल रहा है और अब वह केवल व्यक्तिगत हितों के बजाय व्यापक सामाजिक मुद्दों पर भी सोचती हैं।
सिनेमा में वापसी की संभावना पर कंगना ने भरोसा जताया कि वह आज भी फिल्म उद्योग में मांग रखने वाली अभिनेत्री हैं।
उन्होंने कहा कि कई निर्देशक अब भी उनसे संपर्क करते हैं और फिल्मों से दूरी बनाने के कारण पूछते हैं।
बड़ी बॉलीवुड प्रोडक्शन कंपनियों के साथ काम करने की संभावना पर उन्होंने कहा कि अतीत में वह स्वयं कई अवसरों और उद्योग की कुछ परंपराओं को ठुकरा चुकी हैं।
कंगना ने पुरस्कार समारोहों से दूरी बनाए रखने के अपने फैसलों का भी उल्लेख किया।
उन्होंने अपनी प्रोडक्शन कंपनी और निर्देशन के अनुभव का जिक्र करते हुए कहा कि वह केवल अभिनय तक सीमित नहीं हैं।
कंगना ने मणिकर्णिका और इमरजेंसी जैसी फिल्मों के निर्देशन का हवाला देते हुए फिल्म निर्माण के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में अपनी भूमिका को रेखांकित किया।
अभिनय की पसंद पर कंगना ने कहा कि वह अब ऐसे किरदारों को अधिक महत्व देती हैं जो उनकी उम्र, व्यक्तित्व और अनुभव के अनुकूल हों।
उन्होंने फिल्म थलाइवी में जे जयललिता की भूमिका को इसी प्रकार के चुनौतीपूर्ण और प्रभावशाली किरदार का उदाहरण बताया।
उनका कहना था कि उन्हें ऐसे चरित्र ज्यादा आकर्षित करते हैं जिनमें अभिनय की व्यापक गुंजाइश हो, बजाय केवल किसी बड़े पुरुष सितारे के साथ पारंपरिक नायिका की भूमिका निभाने के।
कंगना रनौत को हाल में अपनी ही प्रोडक्शन की फिल्म भारत भाग्य विधाता में देखा गया, जो बॉक्स ऑफिस पर सफल नहीं रही। उनकी पिछली बड़ी थिएटर सफलता 2019 की मणिकर्णिका मानी जाती है।
आने वाले समय में वह अपनी चर्चित फिल्म क्वीन के सीक्वल क्वीन 2 में न नज़र आने वाली हैं।
