Kanpur Pharma Trader Murder: Police Detain Daughter-in-Law as Investigation Takes Financial Dispute Turn
Vineet Manocha was found dead with over 26 stab injuries; police are examining whether alleged restrictions over household money played a role
Kanpur: The investigation into the killing of pharmaceutical businessman Vineet Manocha has taken a new turn with police detaining his 30-year-old daughter-in-law, Shalu Manocha, for questioning.
Investigators are examining an alleged conspiracy theory in which two arrested men have claimed that the businessman was killed at her behest.
Police have not yet confirmed the allegation against Shalu.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) SM Qasim Abidi said her version is being checked against call records and other evidence collected during the investigation.
Her exact role, if any, will be determined only after the evidence is assessed, he said.
The case began with the discovery of Vineet’s body at his residence in Ratan Orbit apartment in Kalyanpur.
The 63-year-old trader had sustained more than 26 stab wounds. He was believed to have been attacked during the period when his family members were away at a party.
The breakthrough in the investigation came after police traced movements captured by cameras installed inside the gated residential complex.
The footage showed two men entering the premises around the time of the incident.
One was subsequently identified as Vishal Gautam, a 30-year-old domestic worker employed by the family.
Police also identified the second man as Raj Kishore, 30.
Both men were arrested late Sunday after police said they were injured in an encounter.
Investigators said the pair subsequently made allegations about Shalu’s purported involvement in the killing.
A separate piece of evidence under scrutiny concerns how the two men gained access to the residential complex.
Madan, who was responsible for security at Ratan Orbit, reportedly told police that guards initially prevented Vishal and Raj Kishore from entering.
According to the police account, Vishal then made a phone call to Shalu.
She allegedly spoke to security personnel and said the visitors were bringing medicines, following which they were permitted to enter.
The surveillance trail later showed Vishal coming out of Vineet’s flat, with a second man following him.
The other person’s face was covered, police said. Investigators are using the footage to establish the movements of the suspects before and after the killing.
Attention has also shifted to the financial arrangements within the family.
Police said Shalu allegedly complained during questioning that she and her husband were not free to spend household money as they wished.
They were purportedly provided a predetermined monthly amount and had to seek Vineet’s approval when they required additional funds.
This alleged financial dependence is being examined as a possible motive. Police, however, have yet to establish that it was connected to the murder.
The circumstances surrounding the victim’s movements on the night of the crime are also being pieced together.
Police believe the killing took place sometime between 10:30 pm on Saturday and 3 am on Sunday. Vineet was reportedly alone at home during that period.
His wife, Punita, was in Ghaziabad.
Their daughter Subhani and son-in-law, both engineers, reside in Gurugram. Vineet’s son Subrat was also associated with the family business.
The Vinocha family has longstanding links with Kanpur’s pharmaceutical trade.
Their wholesale enterprise, Pharma Traders, operates from Birhana Road and, according to police, records an annual turnover of more than ₹40 crore.
Rajendra Saini, secretary of the UP Retail Chemists and Distributors Association, said the business has been passed down through three generations.
Vineet’s father established the enterprise in 1968, after which Vineet took over its management. Subrat later joined him in running the business.
For now, investigators are treating the alleged involvement of Shalu as an aspect requiring verification rather than a settled conclusion.
Police are expected to rely on electronic records, CCTV footage, the statements of the arrested men, and other evidence to determine what led to the killing of the businessman.

कानपुर: फार्मा कारोबारी Vineet Manocha की हत्या की जांच में पुलिस अब परिवार के भीतर के कथित आर्थिक विवाद और संभावित साजिश की कड़ियां जोड़ रही है।
इसी क्रम में पुलिस ने सोमवार को मृतक की 30 वर्षीय बहू Shalu Manocha को हिरासत में लेकर पूछताछ शुरू की।
शालू की हत्या में भूमिका अभी पुलिस की ओर से प्रमाणित नहीं की गई है।
पश्चिमी क्षेत्र के पुलिस उपायुक्त एसएम कासिम अबीदी ने बताया कि महिला के बयान को कॉल डिटेल रिकॉर्ड समेत दूसरे साक्ष्यों से मिलाया जा रहा है।
जांच पूरी होने के बाद ही उसकी कथित भूमिका पर कोई निष्कर्ष निकलेगा।
मामले की शुरुआत कल्याणपुर के रतन ऑर्बिट अपार्टमेंट में विनीत का शव मिलने के बाद हुई। 63 वर्षीय कारोबारी के शरीर पर 26 से अधिक चाकू के घाव पाए गए थे।
पुलिस के मुताबिक हत्या उस अवधि में हुई, जब परिवार के अन्य सदस्य एक कार्यक्रम में गए हुए थे और विनीत घर पर अकेले थे।
जांच आगे बढ़ने पर पुलिस ने अपार्टमेंट परिसर में लगे सीसीटीवी कैमरों की रिकॉर्डिंग की पड़ताल की।
फुटेज में दो लोगों की गतिविधियां दिखाई दीं, जिनमें से एक की पहचान परिवार के घरेलू सहायक 30 वर्षीय विशाल गौतम के रूप में हुई।
दूसरे व्यक्ति की पहचान 30 वर्षीय राज किशोर के तौर पर की गई। पुलिस ने दोनों को रविवार देर रात गिरफ्तार किया।
पुलिस के मुताबिक गिरफ्तारी से पहले हुई मुठभेड़ में दोनों के पैरों में गोली लगी थी। पूछताछ में दोनों ने कथित तौर पर शालू का नाम लिया और दावा किया कि हत्या उसके कहने पर की गई।
पुलिस जांच में अपार्टमेंट में दोनों संदिग्धों के प्रवेश का घटनाक्रम भी महत्वपूर्ण माना जा रहा है।
सुरक्षा प्रभारी मदन ने जांचकर्ताओं को बताया कि विशाल और राज किशोर को शुरुआत में परिसर के भीतर जाने की अनुमति नहीं दी गई थी।
पुलिस के अनुसार इसके बाद विशाल ने शालू को फोन किया।
आरोप है कि शालू ने सुरक्षा कर्मियों से बात कर दोनों को अंदर जाने देने को कहा और बताया कि वे दवाइयां लेकर आए हैं। इसके बाद दोनों को प्रवेश मिल गया।
सीसीटीवी रिकॉर्डिंग में बाद में विशाल को विनीत के फ्लैट से निकलते हुए देखा गया। उसके पीछे एक दूसरा व्यक्ति भी बाहर आया, जिसका चेहरा ढका हुआ था।
पुलिस इस फुटेज के आधार पर दोनों की गतिविधियों और हत्या के समय के बीच संबंध स्थापित करने की कोशिश कर रही है।
जांच का एक दूसरा पहलू परिवार की वित्तीय व्यवस्था से जुड़ा है।
पुलिस के मुताबिक पूछताछ के दौरान शालू ने कथित तौर पर कहा कि उसके और उसके पति के पास घरेलू धनराशि पर स्वतंत्र नियंत्रण नहीं था।
उन्हें हर महीने एक निर्धारित राशि दी जाती थी और अतिरिक्त पैसे की जरूरत होने पर विनीत से मांग करनी पड़ती थी।
पुलिस यह पता लगाने में जुटी है कि क्या कथित आर्थिक नियंत्रण हत्या के पीछे किसी विवाद या संभावित मकसद से जुड़ा था। हालांकि, अधिकारियों ने अभी इस संबंध को साबित नहीं माना है।
पुलिस के अनुसार विनीत की हत्या शनिवार रात करीब 10:30 बजे से रविवार तड़के 3 बजे के बीच हुई होने की आशंका है।
उस दौरान वह घर में अकेले थे। बाद में परिवार के लोग लौटे तो फ्लैट का मुख्य दरवाजा खुला मिला और एक कमरे में उनका शव पड़ा था।
घटना के समय विनीत की पत्नी पुनीता गाजियाबाद में थीं। वह मैरिज काउंसलर हैं।
उनकी बेटी सुभानी और दामाद, दोनों इंजीनियर हैं और गुरुग्राम में रहते हैं। विनीत का बेटा सुब्रत भी पारिवारिक कारोबार से जुड़ा हुआ था।
विनोचा परिवार का कानपुर के दवा कारोबार में पुराना नाम बताया जाता है। बिरहाना रोड स्थित Pharma Traders थोक दवाओं का कारोबार करता है।
पुलिस के अनुसार फर्म का सालाना टर्नओवर ₹40 करोड़ से अधिक है।
उत्तर प्रदेश रिटेल केमिस्ट्स एंड डिस्ट्रीब्यूटर्स एसोसिएशन के सचिव राजेंद्र सैनी के मुताबिक परिवार की कारोबारी विरासत तीन पीढ़ियों पुरानी है।
उन्होंने बताया कि विनीत के पिता ने 1968 में कारोबार शुरू किया था। बाद में विनीत ने इसे संभाला और फिर उनके बेटे सुब्रत भी व्यवसाय में शामिल हो गए।
फिलहाल पुलिस शालू की कथित भूमिका को लेकर किसी अंतिम निष्कर्ष पर नहीं पहुंची है।
जांचकर्ताओं के सामने अब सीसीटीवी रिकॉर्डिंग, कॉल डिटेल, गिरफ्तार आरोपियों के बयान और अन्य साक्ष्यों को आपस में मिलाकर घटनाक्रम की वास्तविक तस्वीर सामने लाने की चुनौती है।
