Kedar Nath Shrine in Uttarakhand opened for devotees from May 10 on Akshya Tritiya
Baba Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand has been opened for devotees from May 10.
Earlier the temple had been decked with flowers weighing around 25 quintals.
This holy shrine of the hindus is closed in November every year due to heavy snowfall which blocks all routes in the area as well as the temple which at times cannot be even seen due to layers of snow.
As snow begins the statue of Lord Shiva is shifted to Ukhimath in the region.
The statue is followed by band parties and drums and priests chant hymns throughout the journey.
Later in the month of May it is brough back in the same manner.
This year the statue has been brought back on the day of Akshay Tritiya considered to be very auspicious by hindus followers of Sanatan Dharma, (religion).
A large number of devotees had gathered on May 10 to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.
