LAKHIMPUR KHERI: Panic gripped a private school in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on Monday after a 28-year-old man allegedly entered the premises and shot dead a 26-year-old teacher before turning the weapon on himself.
The incident took place around the time students were leaving the school, and parents had arrived to collect their children.
The sound of gunfire triggered panic among those present and sent the school into chaos.
The deceased teacher was identified as Nishat Fatima, who had been working at the school for about a year.
The man accused of killing her was identified as Saud Ansari, a resident of Naurangabad who operated a furniture business.
Police said the two were acquainted and are investigating whether a failed romantic relationship played a role in the killing.
However, investigators have not yet reached a final conclusion about the motive.
The school, situated in the Kotwali area, provides education up to Class V. Police received information about the incident at around 11.30 am and immediately sent a team to the premises.
The bodies of Fatima and Ansari were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
A forensic team also reached the school and began collecting evidence that could help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events.
What happened inside the school?
According to the preliminary investigation, Ansari entered the school along with parents and guardians who had arrived to pick up their children.
Police said Fatima encountered Ansari and took him towards the first floor, where teachers and students were present.
A member of the school staff reportedly noticed them going upstairs and followed them.
The two are believed to have spoken for several minutes.
The conversation, however, suddenly ended in violence when Ansari allegedly removed a pistol from his bag and opened fire at Fatima.
He then allegedly shot himself with the same weapon.
Both died following the shooting.
Investigators are now trying to determine what was discussed between the two before the attack and whether there had been any recent dispute, confrontation or communication between them.
Police are also questioning relatives of both deceased persons to understand the background of their relationship and establish what may have led to the fatal confrontation.
CCTV footage under scrutiny
The school’s CCTV recordings are being examined as investigators attempt to establish Ansari’s movements from the moment he entered the premises until the shooting.
Police are also determining which portions of the school were covered by surveillance cameras and whether the footage captured the interaction between the teacher and Ansari.
The forensic examination is expected to provide further clues about the weapon and other evidence recovered from the scene.
Faridabad schoolteacher killing raises a disturbing parallel
The Lakhimpur Kheri incident also brings to mind another fatal attack on a woman teacher inside a school in Faridabad, Haryana, earlier this year.
On August 3, 2026, 30-year-old teacher Sandhya Karhaja was allegedly attacked inside Saraswati Senior Secondary School in Sikrona by a 21-year-old man identified as Amit.
According to the police investigation, the accused allegedly entered the school and attacked the teacher with a knife.
Sandhya suffered multiple stab wounds and later died from her injuries.
The Faridabad case also brought allegations of prolonged stalking and an alleged one-sided obsession into focus.
The victim’s family reportedly alleged that the accused had been pursuing her for nearly two years.
The two incidents are not known to be connected.
However, both cases involved women teachers being attacked inside educational institutions by men whose alleged personal fixation or relationship-related grievances became an important part of the investigations.
The Faridabad case highlighted the dangers that can arise when persistent harassment or stalking escalates into violence.
The Lakhimpur Kheri shooting has once again raised questions about how outsiders carrying weapons can gain access to school premises.
Police seek to establish complete sequence
In Lakhimpur Kheri, investigators are now attempting to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
Statements from school staff, parents and other witnesses are expected to help establish the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
Police are also examining the backgrounds of the two deceased and their previous interactions.
The investigation will focus on the motive, the manner in which Ansari entered the school with a firearm and the events immediately preceding the shooting.
Authorities are treating the incident as a murder-suicide at this stage, while the final sequence of events will depend on forensic findings, CCTV footage and witness accounts.

लखीमपुर खीरी: उत्तर प्रदेश के लखीमपुर खीरी में सोमवार को एक निजी स्कूल में उस समय अफरा-तफरी मच गई जब 28 वर्षीय एक युवक ने कथित तौर पर परिसर में घुसकर 26 वर्षीय शिक्षिका की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी और बाद में खुद को भी गोली मार ली।
घटना उस समय हुई जब स्कूल से विद्यार्थी बाहर निकल रहे थे और कई अभिभावक अपने बच्चों को लेने के लिए वहां पहुंचे थे। अचानक गोलियों की आवाज से स्कूल परिसर में दहशत फैल गई और लोग इधर-उधर भागने लगे।
मृत शिक्षिका की पहचान निशात फातिमा के रूप में हुई है। वह करीब एक साल से स्कूल में अध्यापन कर रही थीं। पुलिस के अनुसार वारदात को अंजाम देने वाले युवक की पहचान नौरंगाबाद निवासी सऊद अंसारी के रूप में हुई है। वह फर्नीचर का कारोबार करता था।
पुलिस का कहना है कि निशात और सऊद एक-दूसरे को जानते थे। जांच में दोनों के बीच कथित प्रेम संबंध और उसके विफल होने के पहलू को भी देखा जा रहा है। हालांकि पुलिस ने अभी हत्या के पीछे की वजह को लेकर कोई अंतिम निष्कर्ष नहीं निकाला है।
कोतवाली क्षेत्र में स्थित इस स्कूल में पांचवीं कक्षा तक के बच्चों को पढ़ाया जाता है। पुलिस को घटना की सूचना करीब सुबह 11.30 बजे मिली, जिसके बाद तत्काल टीम मौके पर पहुंची।
दोनों शवों को कब्जे में लेकर पोस्टमार्टम के लिए भेज दिया गया। फोरेंसिक टीम ने भी घटनास्थल का निरीक्षण कर आवश्यक साक्ष्य जुटाने शुरू कर दिए।
स्कूल के अंदर कैसे हुई वारदात?
पुलिस की शुरुआती जांच के अनुसार सऊद उन अभिभावकों के साथ स्कूल में दाखिल हुआ था जो अपने बच्चों को लेने के लिए पहुंचे थे।
बताया गया है कि स्कूल परिसर में निशात की नजर सऊद पर पड़ी और वह उसे पहली मंजिल की ओर ले गईं। उस समय वहां शिक्षक और विद्यार्थी मौजूद थे। स्कूल के एक कर्मचारी ने दोनों को ऊपर जाते देखा और उनके पीछे चला गया।
पुलिस के मुताबिक दोनों ने कुछ देर तक बातचीत की। इसके बाद अचानक स्थिति बिगड़ गई। आरोप है कि सऊद ने अपने बैग से पिस्तौल निकाली और निशात पर गोलियां चला दीं।
इसके बाद उसने कथित तौर पर उसी हथियार से खुद को भी गोली मार ली।
गोलीबारी में दोनों की मौत हो गई।
अब जांचकर्ताओं के सामने सबसे बड़ा सवाल यह है कि गोली चलने से ठीक पहले दोनों के बीच क्या बातचीत हुई थी और ऐसा कौन सा घटनाक्रम हुआ जिसके बाद स्थिति हिंसक हो गई।
पुलिस दोनों मृतकों के परिवारों से भी जानकारी जुटा रही है ताकि उनके आपसी संबंधों और हाल के घटनाक्रम के बारे में जानकारी मिल सके।
सीसीटीवी फुटेज की जांच
पुलिस स्कूल में लगे सीसीटीवी कैमरों की रिकॉर्डिंग खंगाल रही है। इसका उद्देश्य यह पता लगाना है कि सऊद स्कूल में किस रास्ते से दाखिल हुआ और परिसर में उसकी गतिविधियां किस तरह रहीं।
जांच अधिकारी यह भी पता लगा रहे हैं कि स्कूल के किन हिस्सों में सीसीटीवी कैमरे लगे थे और क्या कैमरों में निशात और सऊद के बीच हुई बातचीत या उसके बाद की गतिविधियां रिकॉर्ड हुई हैं।
फोरेंसिक जांच के जरिए घटनास्थल से मिले अन्य साक्ष्यों के साथ हथियार से संबंधित जानकारी भी जुटाई जा रही है।
फरिदाबाद में भी स्कूल के अंदर शिक्षिका की हत्या
लखीमपुर खीरी की घटना से पहले इसी साल हरियाणा के फरिदाबाद में भी स्कूल परिसर के भीतर एक महिला शिक्षिका की हत्या ने चिंता बढ़ाई थी।
3 अगस्त 2026 को सिकरोना स्थित सरस्वती सीनियर सेकेंडरी स्कूल में 30 वर्षीय शिक्षिका संध्या करहाजा पर कथित तौर पर 21 वर्षीय अमित ने चाकू से हमला किया था।
पुलिस के अनुसार आरोपी स्कूल में पहुंचा और उसने शिक्षिका पर चाकू से कई वार किए। गंभीर रूप से घायल संध्या की बाद में मौत हो गई।
इस मामले की जांच के दौरान कथित तौर पर लंबे समय से पीछा किए जाने और एकतरफा लगाव का पहलू भी सामने आया। पीड़िता के परिवार की ओर से आरोप लगाया गया था कि आरोपी करीब दो वर्षों से उसका पीछा कर रहा था।
लखीमपुर खीरी और फरिदाबाद की घटनाओं के बीच कोई संबंध सामने नहीं आया है। हालांकि दोनों मामलों में एक चिंताजनक समानता यह है कि महिला शिक्षिकाओं को स्कूल परिसर के भीतर ऐसे पुरुषों द्वारा निशाना बनाया गया जिनके साथ कथित व्यक्तिगत या भावनात्मक विवाद जांच का हिस्सा बना।
फरिदाबाद की घटना ने यह सवाल उठाया था कि लंबे समय तक जारी कथित पीछा या उत्पीड़न किस तरह गंभीर हिंसा का रूप ले सकता है। लखीमपुर खीरी की घटना ने स्कूलों की सुरक्षा और बाहरी लोगों के प्रवेश को लेकर भी सवाल खड़े किए हैं।
पूरी घटना की कड़ी जोड़ने में जुटी पुलिस
लखीमपुर खीरी में पुलिस अब गोलीबारी से पहले और उसके दौरान हुए घटनाक्रम की पूरी तस्वीर तैयार करने में जुटी है। स्कूल कर्मचारियों, अभिभावकों और अन्य संभावित प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों से जानकारी ली जा रही है।
जांच में दोनों मृतकों की पृष्ठभूमि, उनके बीच संपर्क और हाल के घटनाक्रम की भी पड़ताल की जा रही है।
पुलिस इस बात की भी जांच कर रही है कि सऊद हथियार लेकर स्कूल परिसर में कैसे दाखिल हुआ और घटना से पहले उसके और शिक्षिका के बीच वास्तव में क्या हुआ था।
फिलहाल पुलिस इसे हत्या के बाद आत्महत्या का मामला मानकर जांच आगे बढ़ा रही है। घटना की अंतिम तस्वीर फोरेंसिक रिपोर्ट, सीसीटीवी फुटेज और गवाहों के बयानों के आधार पर ही स्पष्ट होगी।
