Lok Sabha polls 2024: BJP registers first victory, wins Surat seat even before polling

The BJP on Monday won the Surat Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat even without polling.The saffron party candidate Mukesh Dalal has been elected unopposed from the seat.
A high-voltage drama erupted in Gujarat’s Surat seat after the BJP raised objection on the nomination from Congress’ Nilesh Kumbhani. During a hearing on Sunday, Kumbhani’s nomination was declared invalid, leaving only the BJP and BSP candidates in the poll fray as seven other candidtes opted out of the high-staked contest. BJP’s Mukesh Dalal thus became the first candidate to win the Lok Sabha election much before the declaration of poll result on June 4. The development came after BSP candidate Pyarelala withdrew his nomination.
