Lucknow Fire Tragedy: Rescuers Break Through Walls as Massive Blaze Claims 15 Lives
A devastating fire swept through a three-storey commercial building in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Monday afternoon, leaving at least 15 people dead and triggering a desperate rescue operation.
Thick smoke and rapidly spreading flames turned the building into a death trap, while the narrow approach to the structure severely hampered firefighting efforts.
With no direct access available, firefighters and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were forced to devise an alternative rescue strategy.
They climbed onto the terrace of a neighbouring residential building and broke two large openings in the side wall of the burning commercial structure.
The improvised entry points allowed rescue teams to reach areas that were otherwise inaccessible and continue their firefighting and search operations.
Dramatic scenes unfolded at the site. Visuals showed firefighters smashing through brick walls and inserting water hoses through the openings to combat the raging blaze.
In another heartbreaking scene, rescue workers were seen carrying bodies out of the building on stretchers, highlighting the magnitude of the tragedy.
Officials said several victims had desperately tried to save themselves by locking themselves inside a washroom, hoping it would shield them from the intense heat and suffocating smoke.
Tragically, all of them were later found dead, having been unable to escape the fire.
Acknowledging the difficulties encountered during the operation, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said the rescue teams faced enormous challenges due to the building’s layout and lack of access.
“This is an extremely tragic incident. There was no space for rescue teams to enter, and they had to break through a wall to gain access,” he told reporters.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives, Pathak announced that the state government had ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.
He assured the bereaved families that the government stood firmly with them and that the circumstances leading to the tragedy would be thoroughly investigated.
The building housed multiple establishments. A pet clinic and pet shop operated from the basement, ground floor and first floor, while the second floor contained a graphics animation training centre and a library.
The commercial structure was sandwiched between a residential building on one side and a store named Empress Computers, known for assembling customized gaming computers, on the other.
The Lucknow tragedy comes just weeks after another catastrophic fire in the national capital. In Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, a massive blaze engulfed a ground-plus-five-storey building functioning as a bed-and-breakfast establishment, killing 23 people, including several foreign nationals.
According to the police, the deceased foreign nationals belonged to Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique and Bangladesh.
Most of them had travelled to India for medical treatment or were accompanying patients undergoing healthcare procedures, turning what was meant to be a journey of hope into an unimaginable tragedy.

सोमवार दोपहर लखनऊ के अलीगंज इलाके में स्थित एक तीन मंजिला व्यावसायिक भवन में लगी भीषण आग ने कुछ ही समय में भयावह रूप धारण कर लिया। इस दर्दनाक हादसे में कम से कम 15 लोगों की जान चली गई। आग इतनी तेजी से फैली और धुएँ का गुबार इतना घना था कि पूरा भवन मौत के जाल में तब्दील हो गया। संकरी पहुंच और भवन की बनावट के कारण दमकल और बचाव दलों को राहत कार्य चलाने में भारी कठिनाइयों का सामना करना पड़ा।
स्थिति की गंभीरता को देखते हुए दमकल विभाग और राज्य आपदा मोचन बल (एसडीआरएफ) के जवानों ने एक असाधारण रणनीति अपनाई। वे पास के एक रिहायशी मकान की छत पर पहुंचे और वहां से जलती इमारत की साइड वाली दीवार में दो बड़े छेद किए। इन्हीं रास्तों से राहतकर्मी भवन के भीतर प्रवेश कर सके और उन हिस्सों तक पहुंचे, जहां सामान्य तरीके से जाना संभव नहीं था।
घटनास्थल से सामने आए दृश्य बेहद मार्मिक और भयावह थे। वीडियो में देखा गया कि दमकलकर्मी ईंटों की दीवार तोड़कर उसके भीतर पानी की पाइप डाल रहे हैं ताकि आग पर काबू पाया जा सके। एक अन्य दृश्य में बचावकर्मी स्ट्रेचर पर शवों को बाहर ले जाते दिखाई दिए, जिसने पूरे हादसे की त्रासदी को बयां कर दिया।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार, कुछ लोगों ने आग और दम घोंट देने वाले धुएँ से बचने के लिए खुद को शौचालय में बंद कर लिया था। उन्हें उम्मीद थी कि बंद कमरा उन्हें कुछ समय के लिए सुरक्षित रखेगा, लेकिन दुर्भाग्य से वे सभी मृत पाए गए। वे आग और धुएँ के बीच फंसकर बाहर नहीं निकल सके।
उत्तर प्रदेश के उपमुख्यमंत्री ब्रजेश पाठक ने राहत अभियान में आई चुनौतियों को स्वीकार करते हुए कहा कि भवन में प्रवेश करने के लिए पर्याप्त जगह नहीं थी। उन्होंने कहा, “यह अत्यंत दुखद घटना है। बचाव दलों के पास अंदर जाने का कोई रास्ता नहीं था, इसलिए उन्हें दीवार तोड़कर भवन में प्रवेश करना पड़ा।”
उन्होंने मृतकों के प्रति गहरा शोक व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि राज्य सरकार ने पूरे मामले की उच्चस्तरीय जांच के आदेश दे दिए हैं। उन्होंने आश्वासन दिया कि सरकार पीड़ित परिवारों के साथ खड़ी है और इस त्रासदी के कारणों की गहन पड़ताल की जाएगी।
यह भवन कई व्यावसायिक प्रतिष्ठानों का केंद्र था। बेसमेंट, भूतल और प्रथम तल पर एक पेट क्लिनिक और पालतू पशुओं की दुकान संचालित होती थी। दूसरी मंजिल पर ग्राफिक्स एनीमेशन प्रशिक्षण केंद्र और एक पुस्तकालय स्थित था। इमारत के एक ओर एक रिहायशी मकान था, जबकि दूसरी ओर ‘एम्प्रेस कम्प्यूटर्स’ नामक दुकान थी, जो विशेष रूप से कस्टमाइज्ड गेमिंग कंप्यूटर तैयार करने के लिए जानी जाती है।
लखनऊ की यह दर्दनाक घटना ऐसे समय सामने आई है, जब कुछ ही सप्ताह पहले दिल्ली के मालवीय नगर में भी एक भीषण अग्निकांड ने देश को झकझोर दिया था। वहां एक ग्राउंड प्लस पांच मंजिला इमारत, जो बेड एंड ब्रेकफास्ट (बी एंड बी) के रूप में संचालित हो रही थी, आग की चपेट में आ गई थी। उस हादसे में 23 लोगों की मौत हुई थी, जिनमें कई विदेशी नागरिक भी शामिल थे।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, मृत विदेशी नागरिक लाइबेरिया, नाइजीरिया, मोजाम्बिक और बांग्लादेश से थे। इनमें से अधिकांश लोग इलाज के लिए भारत आए थे या अपने परिजनों के साथ चिकित्सा यात्रा पर थे। बेहतर स्वास्थ्य और नई उम्मीद लेकर आए इन लोगों की यात्रा एक दर्दनाक और अकल्पनीय त्रासदी में समाप्त हो गई।
