Lucknow Schoolgirls Protest Teacher Shortage, Block Dubagga Bypass:
Around 200 students of Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya for Girls stopped traffic on the Lucknow-Dubagga Bypass, demanding immediate action on staffing, food and other school-related concerns.
Lucknow: Heavy rain did little to deter schoolgirls who took to the Lucknow-Dubagga Bypass on Monday, bringing traffic to a halt as they pressed authorities to address problems at their residential school.
The students of Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya for Girls said they were unhappy with the shortage of teachers, the quality of food being served at the institution and other issues affecting their day-to-day education and living conditions.
They demanded that senior government officials reach the protest site and listen to their concerns.
Some of the girls sat directly in front of vehicles, while others joined hands to create a human chain across the road.
The demonstration continued for close to two hours, causing significant disruption on the busy route.
Police personnel arrived and attempted to convince the students to withdraw from the road.
While most of the protesters eventually moved away, around 50 girls initially remained at the spot and refused to end the demonstration.
The situation changed after senior officials from the Welfare Department and the district administration reached the location.
The officials spoke to the students before taking them back to the school.
A detailed interaction was subsequently held on the campus, where the girls were allowed to put forward their complaints.
The protest came only three days after more than 100 students from the boys’ section of the same institution had demonstrated over similar concerns.
The boys’ and girls’ sections function from separate campuses and buildings, although both are operated by the Uttar Pradesh Welfare Department.
The latest agitation has also brought renewed attention to the unresolved teacher shortage.
Welfare Minister Asim Arun said the department had selected guest faculty last year as a measure to fill vacant teaching positions.
Their appointment, however, could not proceed after a case concerning the continuation of guest teachers came before the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court.
According to Arun, the matter was heard on Monday, and the department placed its submissions before the court.
He expressed hope that an order could be issued the following day, after which the government would take steps to bring the guest teachers back.
The minister also said departmental action would be taken against officials whose negligence contributed to the delay in making teachers available for the students.
The issue had already surfaced during the boys’ protest on August 14, when students blocked Mohan Road.
Arun, who happened to be travelling through the area, was caught in the traffic affected by the demonstration and personally intervened to speak with the protesting students.
Monday’s protest drew a political response as well. The Samajwadi Party criticised the state government, describing the demonstrations by younger students as evidence of dissatisfaction with the education system.
The Uttar Pradesh Congress also said the girls’ protest reflected a younger generation raising questions about the functioning of the system.
The developments in Lucknow are part of a wider pattern of student protests reported from Uttar Pradesh in recent months.
Schoolchildren in districts including Fatehpur, Hamirpur and Kannauj have also raised concerns relating to education, staffing and basic facilities.
The Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya network is run by the Uttar Pradesh Social Welfare Department and provides residential education and related facilities to students.
The Mohan Road school identifies itself as a government-run residential institution under the department.
The repeated demonstrations at the Lucknow institution have now put pressure on the authorities to move beyond assurances and address the students’ complaints on the ground.

लखनऊ: लगातार हो रही बारिश के बीच सोमवार को लखनऊ में एक सरकारी आवासीय विद्यालय की छात्राओं का आक्रोश सड़क पर दिखाई दिया।
जय प्रकाश नारायण सर्वोदय विद्यालय की करीब 200 छात्राओं ने लखनऊ-डुबग्गा बाईपास पर पहुंचकर यातायात रोक दिया और स्कूल की व्यवस्थाओं को लेकर अपनी शिकायतें सामने रखीं।
छात्राओं का कहना था कि विद्यालय में शिक्षकों की कमी बनी हुई है। इसके अलावा भोजन की गुणवत्ता और अन्य बुनियादी व्यवस्थाओं को लेकर भी वे संतुष्ट नहीं हैं।
छात्राओं ने मांग की कि वरिष्ठ अधिकारी मौके पर आएं और उनकी समस्याओं को सीधे सुनें।
प्रदर्शन के दौरान कुछ छात्राएं वाहनों के सामने सड़क पर बैठ गईं, जबकि अन्य ने एक-दूसरे का हाथ पकड़कर मानव श्रृंखला बना ली।
करीब दो घंटे तक चले प्रदर्शन के कारण इस व्यस्त मार्ग पर वाहनों की आवाजाही प्रभावित रही और सड़क पर जाम की स्थिति पैदा हो गई।
सूचना मिलने पर पुलिस मौके पर पहुंची और छात्राओं को सड़क खाली करने के लिए समझाने का प्रयास किया।
अधिकांश छात्राएं वहां से हट गईं, लेकिन करीब 50 छात्राएं अपनी मांगों पर कायम रहीं और सड़क से हटने को तैयार नहीं हुईं।
बाद में समाज कल्याण विभाग और जिला प्रशासन के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी मौके पर पहुंचे।
उन्होंने छात्राओं से बातचीत की और उनकी शिकायतें सुनीं।
इसके बाद छात्राओं को विद्यालय वापस ले जाया गया, जहां अधिकारियों ने उनके साथ विस्तार से बातचीत कर उठाए गए मुद्दों को समझने और उनके समाधान की दिशा में कदम उठाने की बात कही।
यह प्रदर्शन इसलिए भी महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि इसी विद्यालय के बालक वर्ग के 100 से अधिक छात्रों ने तीन दिन पहले इसी तरह की समस्याओं को लेकर प्रदर्शन किया था।
बालक और बालिका वर्ग के विद्यालय अलग-अलग परिसरों और भवनों में संचालित होते हैं, लेकिन दोनों का संचालन उत्तर प्रदेश के समाज कल्याण विभाग द्वारा किया जाता है।
शिक्षकों की कमी का मुद्दा अब इस पूरे घटनाक्रम का प्रमुख केंद्र बन गया है।
समाज कल्याण मंत्री असीम अरुण ने कहा कि शिक्षकों की कमी दूर करने के लिए पिछले वर्ष अतिथि शिक्षकों के चयन की प्रक्रिया पूरी की गई थी।
हालांकि, अतिथि शिक्षकों की नियुक्ति जारी रखने को लेकर इलाहाबाद हाईकोर्ट की लखनऊ पीठ में मामला पहुंचने के कारण उन्हें पिछले करीब एक वर्ष से विद्यालयों में तैनात नहीं किया जा सका।
अरुण के अनुसार, इस मामले की सुनवाई सोमवार को हुई और विभाग ने अदालत के सामने अपना पक्ष रखा। उन्होंने उम्मीद जताई कि मंगलवार को अदालत की ओर से आदेश आ सकता है।
आदेश आने के बाद अतिथि शिक्षकों को फिर से विद्यालयों में लाने और शिक्षकों से जुड़े मुद्दों को दूर करने के लिए आवश्यक कदम उठाए जाएंगे।
मंत्री ने यह भी कहा कि शिक्षकों की उपलब्धता में हुई देरी के लिए जिम्मेदार अधिकारियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की जाएगी।
उनके अनुसार, अधिकारियों की लापरवाही के कारण करीब डेढ़ महीने तक शिक्षकों की उपलब्धता प्रभावित रही।
इस विद्यालय में छात्रों की शिकायतों का मुद्दा इससे पहले भी सड़क तक पहुंच चुका है। 14 अगस्त को बालक वर्ग के छात्रों ने मोहन रोड पर रास्ता रोककर प्रदर्शन किया था।
उस समय मंत्री असीम अरुण का वाहन भी प्रदर्शन के कारण लगे जाम में फंस गया था। उन्होंने छात्रों से बातचीत कर उनकी समस्याएं जानने का प्रयास किया था।
सोमवार के प्रदर्शन के बाद विपक्षी दलों ने भी राज्य सरकार को घेरा। समाजवादी पार्टी ने सोशल मीडिया पोस्ट के जरिए सरकार की शिक्षा व्यवस्था पर सवाल उठाए और छात्र आंदोलनों को लेकर भाजपा सरकार की आलोचना की।
उत्तर प्रदेश कांग्रेस ने भी प्रदर्शन को नई पीढ़ी की ओर से व्यवस्था पर उठाया गया सवाल बताया।
लखनऊ की घटना उत्तर प्रदेश के दूसरे जिलों में सामने आए छात्र प्रदर्शनों की पृष्ठभूमि में हुई है।
हाल के महीनों में फतेहपुर, हमीरपुर और कन्नौज समेत कई जिलों में विद्यार्थियों ने शिक्षा व्यवस्था, शिक्षकों की उपलब्धता और बुनियादी सुविधाओं से जुड़े मुद्दे उठाए हैं।
जय प्रकाश नारायण सर्वोदय विद्यालय उत्तर प्रदेश समाज कल्याण विभाग के अधीन संचालित आवासीय विद्यालयों की व्यवस्था का हिस्सा हैं, जहां विद्यार्थियों को शिक्षा के साथ आवास और अन्य सुविधाएं उपलब्ध कराई जाती हैं।
लखनऊ के विद्यालय में लगातार हो रहे छात्र प्रदर्शनों ने अब प्रशासन के सामने यह चुनौती रख दी है कि आश्वासनों के साथ-साथ उठाई गई समस्याओं के व्यावहारिक समाधान भी जल्द जमीन पर दिखाई दें।
