Lucknow Students Block Mohan Road Over Teacher Shortage, Demand Better Facilities at Residential School
Students of Lucknow’s Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya blocked Mohan Road over teacher shortages, mess facilities and coaching concerns before Minister Asim Arun intervened.
Lucknow: More than 100 students of a government-run residential school in Lucknow briefly brought traffic to a standstill on Mohan Road on Friday morning, protesting over what they said were shortcomings in teaching and other facilities at the institution.
Students of Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, a boys’ residential school administered by the Uttar Pradesh Welfare Department, gathered on the busy road wearing their school uniforms.
Several students sat on the carriageway while others stood in groups and raised slogans, leading to a traffic buildup in the area.
The protest centred on a shortage of teachers, improvement of mess facilities and changes to the coaching programme offered to students, according to a police officer.
A police team reached the spot and tried to persuade the students to vacate the road. However, the students initially refused to move, keeping the road blocked and preventing traffic from flowing normally.
The situation took an unexpected turn when Uttar Pradesh Welfare Department Minister Asim Arun, whose vehicle was caught in the traffic congestion caused by the protest, arrived at the spot.
Rather than allowing the confrontation to continue, the minister approached the students and asked them to shift the discussion inside the campus.
He called departmental officials to the school and urged the students to end the road blockade so that their concerns could be discussed in detail. The students subsequently agreed to clear the road.
Arun then spent nearly two hours interacting with the students and hearing their complaints. Officials said he assured them that the issues raised during the protest would be examined and steps would be taken to address them.
One of the major concerns relates to the availability of teachers. According to sources, several teachers have not been taking classes because of an ongoing court case, which has affected the students’ academic routine.
Officials said the minister acknowledged that the students were seeking improvements in academic standards.
While maintaining that studies at the institution were otherwise progressing satisfactorily, he also took note of their demand for better coaching facilities under the department’s programme.
The minister reportedly assured the students that the coaching system would be strengthened.
He also directed that teachers and other employees posted at the residential institution should stay on the campus, where staff and transit hostel facilities are already available.
Para police station Station House Officer Suresh Singh said the students remained on the road for around 15 minutes before the minister reached the spot and the blockade was subsequently withdrawn.
The brief protest, which began as a road blockade, thus ended with a direct interaction between the students and the department’s minister, with the administration promising to address the issues raised by them.

लखनऊ: शिक्षकों की कमी और विद्यालय की अन्य व्यवस्थाओं को लेकर शुक्रवार सुबह लखनऊ में जय प्रकाश नारायण सर्वोदय विद्यालय के 100 से अधिक छात्रों ने मोहान रोड पर प्रदर्शन किया।
छात्रों के सड़क पर बैठने और नारेबाजी करने के कारण व्यस्त मार्ग पर यातायात प्रभावित हो गया और वाहनों की कतार लग गई।
उत्तर प्रदेश कल्याण विभाग के अधीन संचालित इस आवासीय बाल विद्यालय के छात्र स्कूल की वर्दी में सड़क पर जमा हुए थे।
कुछ छात्र सड़क पर बैठ गए, जबकि अन्य समूह बनाकर नारे लगाते रहे।
प्रदर्शनकारियों की प्रमुख मांगों में पर्याप्त संख्या में शिक्षकों की उपलब्धता, मेस की सुविधाओं में सुधार और विभाग की ओर से संचालित कोचिंग व्यवस्था को बेहतर बनाना शामिल था।
सूचना मिलने पर पुलिस मौके पर पहुंची और छात्रों को सड़क से हटाने का प्रयास किया। हालांकि, छात्रों ने तत्काल रास्ता खाली करने से इनकार कर दिया और अपनी मांगों को लेकर प्रदर्शन जारी रखा।
इसी दौरान स्थिति उस समय बदल गई जब उत्तर प्रदेश के कल्याण विभाग के मंत्री असीम अरुण का वाहन भी प्रदर्शन के कारण लगे जाम में फंस गया। मंत्री वाहन से उतरे और प्रदर्शन कर रहे छात्रों के बीच पहुंचे।
उन्होंने छात्रों से सड़क खाली कर परिसर में चलकर उनकी समस्याओं पर विस्तार से बातचीत करने को कहा।
मंत्री ने विभागीय अधिकारियों को भी मौके पर बुलाया। इसके बाद छात्र सड़क से हटने के लिए तैयार हो गए और यातायात सामान्य होने लगा।
परिसर में मंत्री ने करीब दो घंटे तक छात्रों से बातचीत की और उनकी शिकायतें सुनीं।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार, छात्रों ने पढ़ाई की गुणवत्ता, शिक्षकों की उपलब्धता, मेस व्यवस्था और कोचिंग कार्यक्रम से जुड़ी कई समस्याएं उनके सामने रखीं।
सूत्रों के मुताबिक, विद्यालय में कुछ शिक्षक एक चल रहे न्यायिक मामले के कारण पढ़ाई नहीं करा रहे हैं। इससे छात्रों की शिक्षा प्रभावित होने की बात सामने आई है।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार, मंत्री ने कहा कि छात्रों की मुख्य चिंता बेहतर शैक्षणिक व्यवस्था को लेकर है।
उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि संस्थान में पढ़ाई सामान्य रूप से चल रही है, लेकिन छात्रों द्वारा कोचिंग कार्यक्रम में सुधार की मांग को गंभीरता से लिया गया है।
उन्होंने विभागीय कोचिंग व्यवस्था को बेहतर बनाने का आश्वासन दिया।
मंत्री ने विद्यालय के शिक्षकों और अन्य कर्मचारियों को परिसर में ही रहने का निर्देश भी दिया।
अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, विद्यालय परिसर में कर्मचारियों के लिए स्टाफ हॉस्टल और ट्रांजिट हॉस्टल की सुविधा पहले से उपलब्ध है।
पारा थाने के प्रभारी निरीक्षक सुरेश सिंह ने बताया कि छात्रों का सड़क पर प्रदर्शन करीब 15 मिनट तक चला। मंत्री के मौके पर पहुंचने और छात्रों से बातचीत के बाद सड़क से प्रदर्शन समाप्त कर दिया गया।
करीब एक घंटे से अधिक चली बातचीत के बाद प्रशासन और छात्रों के बीच संवाद का रास्ता खुला और मोहान रोड पर बाधित यातायात भी बहाल हो गया।
