Moradabad Heist: Trader’s Daughter Accused of Planning Rs 1.20 Crore Robbery With Boyfriend
What appeared to be a meticulously planned armed robbery in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad has taken a shocking turn, with police alleging that the mastermind behind the Rs 1.20 crore heist was none other than the trader’s own daughter.
According to investigators, the dramatic robbery was carried out in the early hours of May 12 at the residence of a well-known brass businessman in the city.
Armed men reportedly stormed the house, threatened the family at gunpoint, and fled with cash and jewellery worth crores.
Police now claim the entire operation was secretly planned with the assistance of the trader’s 21-year-old daughter, Ariba, who allegedly helped her boyfriend and his associates execute the crime.
Police have arrested Ariba, her boyfriend Arshad Warsi, 27, along with three alleged accomplices.
During the investigation, officers recovered Rs 47.24 lakh in cash, four illegal firearms, and two vehicles believed to have been used during the robbery.
The incident unfolded just hours after brass trader Mohammad Imran returned home with his family following a birthday celebration for his youngest daughter.
The family had barely gone to sleep when, around 3.40 am, suspicious sounds inside the house woke them up.
Moments later, masked men armed with guns allegedly barged in and held the family hostage while carrying out the robbery.
As police began examining the crime scene, several details immediately pointed towards the possibility of insider involvement.
Investigators found that the digitally operated main gate had been remotely unlocked.
The intruders also appeared to possess a key to the house, allowing them easy access.
Adding to suspicions, the CCTV DVR system had been removed and taken away, apparently to destroy evidence.
The investigation reportedly gained momentum after police analysed the family’s phone records.
Officials claimed that Ariba had been in repeated contact with a particular number shortly before and after the robbery.
That number was traced to her boyfriend, Arshad Warsi.
During questioning, police alleged that Ariba and Arshad had been in a relationship for nearly five years and wanted to marry each other.
However, her family was reportedly opposed to the relationship. Investigators said Ariba believed her father objected to Arshad because of differences in caste and financial background.
Police further claimed that Ariba had repeatedly encouraged Arshad to target her family’s home whenever large amounts of money were stored there.
Investigators alleged that about a month before the incident, she secretly handed over a set of house keys to him.
The alleged plan moved forward after Mohammad Imran reportedly brought home a significant amount of cash meant for a land registration deal.
Police said Ariba informed Arshad about the money and shared detailed information about the house layout and security arrangements.
Arshad allegedly then gathered a group of associates by promising them a share of the loot.
According to the police version, the accused arrived near the house in two separate cars on the night of the robbery and parked them at a distance to avoid attracting attention.
Ariba was inside the house along with her parents, siblings, and other family members.
At around 3.30 am, police alleged, she gave the signal to the robbers and remotely unlocked the main entrance.
The group then used the key previously provided to enter the premises and carry out the robbery.
Despite the police claims, Ariba’s family has expressed disbelief over her alleged involvement.
Her mother, Seema, said the family was struggling to understand the situation and suggested that her daughter might be taking responsibility under pressure.
“She was with us the entire day on May 11. We had gone out together to celebrate my younger daughter’s birthday. We still cannot believe all this,” Seema reportedly said.
The other accused arrested in the case have been identified as Ravi Kumar, 26, Kuldeep, 26, and Nikki, 20, all residents of Amroha.
Police said Ravi and Kuldeep had pursued B.Pharm studies, while Nikki is currently a student.
Arshad reportedly runs a furniture business, whereas Kuldeep and Ravi work in private sector jobs.
Investigators added that Ariba had discontinued her education after failing her intermediate examinations and was currently enrolled in an online beautician training course.
Police have also detained four more individuals for questioning and said efforts are underway to recover the remaining stolen money.
Moradabad Superintendent of Police Satpal stated that investigators had identified the involvement of around 10 individuals in the conspiracy.
According to him, six people allegedly entered the house during the robbery, while others stayed outside to assist with the operation.
Police said teams are conducting raids to arrest the remaining suspects. Officials further clarified that none of the accused had any previous criminal history.
