Mumbai Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Posing as PMO Official at NMACC Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit
Suspect was accompanying another man as a bodyguard and was carrying a licensed pistol, police say
MUMBAI: Mumbai Police have arrested a man who allegedly attempted to gain access to a high-security area by presenting himself as an official attached to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), officials said.
The incident occurred during security arrangements at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to attend an event.
Security measures had been intensified around the venue in view of the Prime Minister’s proposed visit.
The heightened arrangements led security personnel and police to closely scrutinise people entering the area, officials said.
According to the police, the suspect reached BKC on Monday evening along with another man from Khar.
The second man was reportedly accompanying him in the capacity of a bodyguard.
During the verification process, the alleged bodyguard identified himself as a PMO functionary, prompting the authorities to take a closer look at the circumstances surrounding their presence in the sensitive zone.
The claim was treated seriously because the venue was under enhanced security ahead of the Prime Minister’s programme.
Police subsequently initiated a detailed verification process to establish the identity and purpose of the two men and determine whether the alleged claim of association with the PMO had any basis.
As part of the inquiry, officers recorded the statement of the man from Khar who had accompanied the suspect. After his statement was taken and his role was examined, police released him.
The alleged bodyguard, however, remained under questioning as investigators sought to establish why he had claimed to be connected with the PMO.
Police later took action against him and registered a case through the BKC police station for allegedly impersonating a PMO official.
Officials also said the arrested man was carrying a licensed pistol at the time. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the firearm as part of the broader inquiry, while the investigation into the alleged impersonation continues.
Investigators are now working to establish how the suspect intended to use the claimed PMO identity and whether he had any legitimate reason to enter or remain in the high-security area.
Police are also verifying the sequence of events that led to the alleged impersonation during the security check.
The incident comes against the backdrop of heightened security protocols put in place for the Prime Minister’s visit.
With access controls tightened around the NMACC and BKC area, police are continuing to examine the case and verify all relevant details before drawing further conclusions.

मुंबई: प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के कार्यक्रम से पहले मुंबई के बांद्रा-कुर्ला कॉम्प्लेक्स (BKC) स्थित नीता मुकेश अंबानी कल्चरल सेंटर (NMACC) में सुरक्षा जांच के दौरान कथित तौर पर प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय (PMO) का अधिकारी बनकर पेश होने वाले एक व्यक्ति को पुलिस ने गिरफ्तार किया है।
अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, आरोपी के पास एक लाइसेंसी पिस्तौल भी थी।
प्रधानमंत्री के प्रस्तावित कार्यक्रम को देखते हुए NMACC और उसके आसपास सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को पहले ही कड़ा कर दिया गया था।
संवेदनशील इलाके में आने-जाने वाले लोगों की पहचान और गतिविधियों की अतिरिक्त जांच की जा रही थी। इसी दौरान पुलिस की नजर आरोपी और उसके साथ मौजूद एक अन्य व्यक्ति पर पड़ी।
पुलिस के अनुसार, आरोपी सोमवार शाम खार इलाके में रहने वाले एक व्यक्ति के साथ BKC पहुंचा था।
उसके साथ आया व्यक्ति कथित तौर पर बॉडीगार्ड के रूप में मौजूद था। सुरक्षा जांच के दौरान इसी व्यक्ति ने खुद को PMO से जुड़ा अधिकारी बताया।
संवेदनशील स्थान पर इस तरह का दावा सामने आने के बाद पुलिस ने मामले की गहन पड़ताल शुरू की।
जांच के दौरान पुलिस ने खार निवासी व्यक्ति से पूछताछ की और उसका बयान दर्ज किया। पूछताछ में उसकी भूमिका की जानकारी लेने के बाद उसे छोड़ दिया गया।
दूसरी ओर, PMO अधिकारी होने का कथित दावा करने वाले व्यक्ति को आगे की पूछताछ के लिए पुलिस ने हिरासत में रखा।
पुलिस अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, जांच आगे बढ़ने के बाद BKC पुलिस ने आरोपी के खिलाफ मामला दर्ज किया।
उस पर कथित तौर पर PMO अधिकारी का रूप धारण कर अपनी पहचान गलत तरीके से पेश करने का आरोप है।
पुलिस अब यह पता लगाने में जुटी है कि उसने खुद को प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय से जुड़ा हुआ क्यों बताया और इस पहचान का इस्तेमाल किस उद्देश्य से किया।
अधिकारियों ने बताया कि आरोपी के पास एक लाइसेंसी पिस्तौल भी मौजूद थी।
पुलिस इस पहलू की भी जांच कर रही है और यह सत्यापित किया जा रहा है कि हथियार से संबंधित परिस्थितियां क्या थीं। साथ ही, आरोपी के उच्च सुरक्षा वाले इलाके में पहुंचने के पूरे घटनाक्रम को भी जांच के दायरे में रखा गया है।
जांच एजेंसियां यह स्पष्ट करने का प्रयास कर रही हैं कि आरोपी के पास PMO से जुड़ा होने का कोई वास्तविक आधार था या उसने सुरक्षा जांच से गुजरने के लिए यह पहचान बताई थी।
पुलिस उसके दावे, BKC में पहुंचने के कारण और सुरक्षा जांच के दौरान हुई पूरी प्रक्रिया की कड़ियों को जोड़ रही है।
यह मामला ऐसे समय सामने आया है जब प्रधानमंत्री के दौरे को लेकर BKC में सुरक्षा प्रबंध सामान्य दिनों की तुलना में अधिक सख्त थे।
पुलिस फिलहाल कथित पहचान बताने की वजह और घटनाक्रम से जुड़े अन्य तथ्यों की पुष्टि कर रही है।
