New Delhi: The alleged NEET-UG question paper leak triggered another stormy day in Parliament on Wednesday, with the government expressing its willingness to discuss the issue while the Opposition refused to relent on its demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The continuing deadlock led to repeated disruptions before the Lok Sabha was adjourned.

Opening the debate from the Opposition benches, Congress MP K.C. Venugopal said the controversy had caused widespread anguish across the country.

Referring to the police action against students protesting over the alleged examination irregularities, he alleged that the government’s response had been excessively harsh.

Intervening during the exchange, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla assured the Opposition that it would be given adequate opportunity to present its views during the discussion.

Responding on behalf of the government, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated that the Centre had no objection to debating the issue in Parliament.

He said the government was prepared to discuss the alleged NEET paper leak under the appropriate parliamentary rules and that the procedure, duration and format of the debate could be decided in accordance with established parliamentary practices.

The discussion took a political turn when Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav intervened, asserting that the controversy was not confined to any single political party but concerned the future of the country’s youth.

He criticised the handling of the student protests and questioned the police action against demonstrators.

Referring to the previous day’s protest near the Prime Minister’s residence, Yadav said Opposition leaders had taken that step after their concerns were allegedly ignored inside Parliament.

He also questioned why the Prime Minister could speak on the issue outside Parliament but had not addressed it inside the House.

Seeking to calm the situation, Speaker Om Birla observed that members across party lines favoured a discussion on the issue and suggested that the procedural framework could be finalised through consultation.

However, with the standoff continuing, he adjourned the Lok Sabha till 2 pm.

The parliamentary confrontation came a day after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi led a nearly three-hour sit-in protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi.

The demonstration was joined by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule and several other Opposition leaders. Delhi Police later removed the protesters from the site and detained them before releasing them later in the evening.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who was deputed by the government to speak with Rahul Gandhi during the protest, later said that the Opposition leader had initially sought only a parliamentary discussion on the alleged NEET paper leak and the student protests linked to it.

According to Singh, after the government agreed to hold such a discussion, Rahul Gandhi additionally insisted on the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The political confrontation has intensified in the wake of the large-scale mobilisation organised earlier this week by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in the national capital.

Sensing growing public concern over the alleged examination irregularities, Opposition parties have stepped up their campaign to hold the government accountable and continue to press for ministerial responsibility.

Government leaders, however, have maintained that the demand for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation is politically motivated.

They have argued that the shortcomings that led to the alleged NEET paper leak have already been addressed and that corrective measures have been put in place to strengthen the integrity of the examination system.

The Centre has reiterated that it remains ready for a detailed parliamentary debate but has ruled out any question of yielding to political pressure over the demand for the minister’s resignation.

NEET विवाद पर संसद में फिर गतिरोध, चर्चा को तैयार सरकार, धर्मेंद्र प्रधान के इस्तीफे की मांग पर अड़ा विपक्ष

नई दिल्ली: कथित NEET-UG प्रश्नपत्र लीक को लेकर बुधवार को संसद में एक बार फिर तीखा गतिरोध देखने को मिला। केंद्र सरकार ने इस मुद्दे पर सदन में चर्चा कराने की इच्छा जताई, लेकिन विपक्ष केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान के इस्तीफे की मांग पर अडिग रहा। लगातार हंगामे के बीच लोकसभा की कार्यवाही बाधित रही और अंततः सदन को स्थगित करना पड़ा।

विपक्ष की ओर से चर्चा की शुरुआत करते हुए कांग्रेस सांसद के.सी. वेणुगोपाल ने कहा कि परीक्षा विवाद ने पूरे देश के विद्यार्थियों और उनके परिवारों को गहरी पीड़ा पहुंचाई है।

उन्होंने छात्र प्रदर्शनकारियों पर हुई पुलिस कार्रवाई की आलोचना करते हुए आरोप लगाया कि सरकार ने आंदोलनकारी छात्रों के साथ कठोर व्यवहार किया।

इस दौरान लोकसभा अध्यक्ष ओम बिरला ने हस्तक्षेप करते हुए विपक्ष को आश्वस्त किया कि निर्धारित चर्चा के दौरान उसे अपनी बात रखने का पूरा अवसर दिया जाएगा।

सरकार की ओर से संसदीय कार्य मंत्री किरण रिजिजू ने स्पष्ट किया कि केंद्र सरकार NEET प्रश्नपत्र लीक मामले पर संसद में विस्तृत चर्चा के लिए पूरी तरह तैयार है।

उन्होंने कहा कि चर्चा किस नियम के तहत होगी, उसकी अवधि क्या होगी और उसकी प्रक्रिया क्या रहेगी, यह संसदीय परंपराओं के अनुसार तय किया जा सकता है। उन्होंने दोहराया कि सरकार बहस से पीछे नहीं हट रही है।

बहस के दौरान समाजवादी पार्टी के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष अखिलेश यादव ने हस्तक्षेप करते हुए कहा कि यह किसी एक राजनीतिक दल का नहीं बल्कि देश के युवाओं के भविष्य का प्रश्न है।

उन्होंने छात्र प्रदर्शनकारियों पर पुलिस कार्रवाई की आलोचना करते हुए कहा कि विद्यार्थियों के साथ जिस तरह का व्यवहार किया गया, उसने पूरे देश को झकझोर दिया है।

उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि विपक्षी नेताओं को प्रधानमंत्री आवास तक इसलिए जाना पड़ा क्योंकि संसद के भीतर उनकी बात नहीं सुनी गई।

साथ ही उन्होंने सवाल उठाया कि यदि प्रधानमंत्री संसद के बाहर इस विषय पर बोल सकते हैं, तो सदन के भीतर चर्चा करने में क्या आपत्ति है।

स्थिति को सामान्य बनाने का प्रयास करते हुए लोकसभा अध्यक्ष ओम बिरला ने कहा कि सभी दल इस मुद्दे पर चर्चा चाहते हैं और इसकी प्रक्रिया आपसी सहमति से तय की जा सकती है।

इसके बावजूद गतिरोध समाप्त नहीं हुआ और उन्होंने सदन की कार्यवाही दोपहर 2 बजे तक के लिए स्थगित कर दी।

संसद के भीतर यह टकराव उस घटनाक्रम के अगले दिन देखने को मिला, जब लोकसभा में विपक्ष के नेता राहुल गांधी ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के आवास के बाहर लगभग तीन घंटे तक धरना दिया था।

इस प्रदर्शन में कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे, सांसद प्रियंका गांधी वाड्रा, समाजवादी पार्टी प्रमुख अखिलेश यादव, राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी (शरद पवार गुट) की नेता सुप्रिया सुले सहित कई विपक्षी नेता शामिल हुए थे।

बाद में दिल्ली पुलिस ने सभी प्रदर्शनकारियों को वहां से हटाकर हिरासत में लिया और शाम को उन्हें रिहा कर दिया।

केंद्रीय मंत्री जितेंद्र सिंह, जिन्हें सरकार की ओर से राहुल गांधी से बातचीत के लिए भेजा गया था, ने बाद में कहा कि कांग्रेस नेता ने प्रारंभ में केवल NEET प्रश्नपत्र लीक और उससे जुड़े छात्र आंदोलन पर संसद में चर्चा कराने की मांग रखी थी।

उनके अनुसार सरकार ने इस पर सहमति जता दी, लेकिन बाद में राहुल गांधी ने शिक्षा मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान के इस्तीफे की अतिरिक्त मांग भी जोड़ दी।

इस बीच राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में कॉकरोच जनता पार्टी (CJP) द्वारा आयोजित बड़े प्रदर्शन के बाद विपक्ष ने परीक्षा में कथित अनियमितताओं के मुद्दे को और आक्रामक ढंग से उठाना शुरू कर दिया है।

विभिन्न विपक्षी दल सरकार को लगातार घेरने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं और परीक्षा प्रणाली में जवाबदेही तय करने की मांग कर रहे हैं।

दूसरी ओर सरकार का कहना है कि शिक्षा मंत्री के इस्तीफे की मांग पूरी तरह राजनीतिक है। सरकार का दावा है कि NEET प्रश्नपत्र लीक के पीछे जिन कमियों की पहचान हुई थी, उन्हें दूर कर दिया गया है और भविष्य में ऐसी घटनाओं को रोकने के लिए आवश्यक सुधारात्मक कदम उठाए जा चुके हैं।

केंद्र ने दोहराया है कि वह संसद में विस्तृत चर्चा के लिए तैयार है, लेकिन राजनीतिक दबाव में किसी मंत्री का इस्तीफा लेने का प्रश्न ही नहीं उठता।
