Israeli media reported that Shin Bet chief David Zini had not authorised a protective detail for Eisenkot after determining that intelligence agencies had found no credible threat against him.

The Prime Minister used his own family’s alleged experience to argue that the dangers facing prominent political figures could not be dismissed lightly.

He said he had asked the country’s security establishment to ensure suitable arrangements for those seeking the post of prime minister.

The dispute comes at a politically sensitive time, with election campaigning gaining momentum and Eisenkot’s political camp considered a significant force.

Israel’s parliamentary system, however, does not guarantee that the party winning the largest number of seats will ultimately form the government.

Netanyahu has two sons, Yair and Avner, but his comments offered no indication as to which one he believed had been the subject of an Iranian operation.

Iranian state television came under scrutiny after broadcasting material concerning Barron Trump, the youngest son of US President Donald Trump.

According to reports, the programme identified locations and other information purportedly linked to the 20-year-old’s life and movements.

The broadcast also carried an unverified claim about a multimillion-dollar reward connected to a threat against him.

The US Secret Service acknowledged that it was aware of the broadcast.

Agency spokesperson Nate Herring said potential threats to individuals under Secret Service protection are assessed and investigated, but declined to discuss operational or intelligence-related details.

The two incidents have highlighted how geopolitical confrontation is increasingly intersecting with the personal security of political leaders and their relatives.

What began in Israel as a domestic argument over the protection of election candidates has now been linked by Netanyahu to the broader confrontation with Iran.

At the same time, the broadcast involving Barron Trump has raised concerns in Washington about the use of state-linked media platforms to circulate threatening material involving the families of senior political figures.
