Nuclear Energy Partnership Marks a New Chapter in India-Australia Relations
Strengthening their strategic partnership, India and Australia have formally concluded an operational agreement that will enable the export of Australian uranium for India’s civilian nuclear energy programme.
The breakthrough was achieved during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Australia and is being viewed as a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation on clean energy and long-term energy security.
Anthony Albanese Describes India as Australia’s Trusted Partner
Highlighting the growing depth of bilateral ties, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the two democracies have transformed their civil nuclear understanding into a fully operational arrangement.
Speaking to journalists in Melbourne on Thursday, Albanese described India as one of Australia’s closest friends and strategic partners, adding that the agreement reflects the increasing trust between the two nations.
Agreement to Support Clean Energy and Resource Trade
According to the Australian Prime Minister, the newly implemented framework will allow uranium shipments from Australia to India, helping New Delhi expand its non-fossil fuel electricity generation capacity.
He noted that the arrangement would also create fresh commercial opportunities for Australia’s mining and natural resources industry while supporting India’s transition towards cleaner sources of energy.
PM Modi Highlights Vast Scope for Future Cooperation
Speaking during the joint media interaction, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India and Australia now have unprecedented opportunities to deepen collaboration across multiple sectors.
He emphasised that the growing partnership extends beyond trade and diplomacy, opening new avenues in strategic technologies, energy, innovation and sustainable development.
Uranium Supply Pact to Strengthen India’s Energy Goals
Referring specifically to the civil nuclear agreement, Modi said the understanding would facilitate the supply of Australian uranium for India’s nuclear power sector.
He added that both countries are entering a new phase of cooperation that will strengthen energy security while supporting India’s expanding clean energy ambitions.
Clean Energy Vision Receives Fresh Momentum
Issuing a separate statement later, the Prime Minister described the nuclear energy agreement as an important achievement in bilateral relations.
He said the pact would pave the way for regular uranium exports from Australia and provide renewed momentum to India’s long-term objective of expanding clean, reliable and sustainable energy production.

दोनों देशों के संबंधों की मजबूती पर जोर देते हुए ऑस्ट्रेलिया के प्रधानमंत्री एंथनी अल्बनीज़ ने कहा कि वर्षों से चले आ रहे असैनिक परमाणु सहयोग को अब पूरी तरह लागू करने की दिशा में अहम कदम उठाया गया है।
मेलबर्न में पत्रकारों से बातचीत के दौरान उन्होंने भारत को ऑस्ट्रेलिया का विश्वसनीय मित्र और महत्वपूर्ण रणनीतिक साझेदार बताते हुए कहा कि यह समझौता दोनों देशों के बीच बढ़ते विश्वास का प्रमाण है।
स्वच्छ ऊर्जा और संसाधन क्षेत्र को मिलेगा नया प्रोत्साहन
अल्बनीज़ के अनुसार, नई व्यवस्था के लागू होने से ऑस्ट्रेलिया से भारत को यूरेनियम की आपूर्ति संभव होगी, जिससे भारत की गैर-जीवाश्म ईंधन आधारित बिजली उत्पादन क्षमता में वृद्धि होगी।
उन्होंने कहा कि इससे एक ओर भारत के स्वच्छ ऊर्जा लक्ष्यों को मजबूती मिलेगी, वहीं दूसरी ओर ऑस्ट्रेलिया के खनन और प्राकृतिक संसाधन क्षेत्र के लिए नए व्यापारिक अवसर भी पैदा होंगे।
प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने सहयोग की अपार संभावनाओं पर दिया जोर
संयुक्त प्रेस वार्ता के दौरान प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने कहा कि भारत और ऑस्ट्रेलिया के रिश्ते अब ऐसे दौर में पहुंच चुके हैं जहां अनेक क्षेत्रों में व्यापक सहयोग की ऐतिहासिक संभावनाएं मौजूद हैं।
उनके अनुसार ऊर्जा, प्रौद्योगिकी, नवाचार, निवेश और सतत विकास जैसे क्षेत्रों में दोनों देश मिलकर नई उपलब्धियां हासिल कर सकते हैं।
यूरेनियम आपूर्ति से भारत के ऊर्जा अभियान को मिलेगी मजबूती
परमाणु ऊर्जा समझौते का उल्लेख करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने कहा कि इस व्यवस्था के बाद ऑस्ट्रेलिया से भारत को यूरेनियम की नियमित आपूर्ति का रास्ता खुल जाएगा।
उन्होंने विश्वास जताया कि यह सहयोग भारत की ऊर्जा सुरक्षा को मजबूत करेगा और स्वच्छ ऊर्जा क्षमता के विस्तार में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाएगा।
स्वच्छ ऊर्जा मिशन को मिलेगी नई गति
बाद में जारी अपने आधिकारिक बयान में प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने इस समझौते को दोनों देशों के संबंधों के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धि बताया।
उन्होंने कहा कि इस पहल से ऑस्ट्रेलिया से भारत तक यूरेनियम आपूर्ति का मार्ग प्रशस्त होगा और देश के स्वच्छ, टिकाऊ तथा भरोसेमंद ऊर्जा उत्पादन के दीर्घकालिक लक्ष्य को नई गति मिलेगी।
