Opposition Seeks Independent Probe into Ayodhya Ram Temple Donation Row
New Delhi: On the eve of Parliament’s Monsoon Session, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge jointly wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding an independent and comprehensive investigation into the alleged financial irregularities involving donations received by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
The Opposition leaders said the issue has shaken the faith of millions of devotees who contributed to the temple with devotion and trust.
Calling for immediate intervention, the two leaders urged the Prime Minister to order an impartial inquiry into the Trust’s financial affairs, including the management of cash, gold, silver, and other offerings made by devotees.
They also sought complete transparency by demanding that the findings of the investigation and the Trust’s financial accounts be placed in the public domain.
According to the letter, every devotee has the right to know how the offerings made at the temple have been utilised, and those found responsible for any wrongdoing must face accountability regardless of their position or influence.
The letter further stated that the credibility of both the Central Government and the Trust would depend on the transparency and speed with which the matter is handled.
Stressing that the country is closely watching developments, the Opposition leaders said the government’s response would determine public confidence in the management of one of India’s most revered religious institutions.
Referring to the origins of the Trust, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge noted that its formation was announced in Parliament following the Supreme Court’s directions, while its members were appointed by the Central Government.
They further stated that several members of the Trust have been publicly associated with organisations such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and their affiliated bodies.
The letter also referred to former General Secretary Champat Rai, describing him as a close associate of the Prime Minister, and questioned the continued silence of the government over the allegations.
Describing the alleged financial misconduct as a serious betrayal of public faith, the Opposition leaders said devotees had donated their hard-earned money with complete trust and religious devotion.
They argued that maintaining silence in such circumstances was unacceptable and asserted that it was the government’s responsibility to ensure accountability and restore public confidence.
The controversy surfaced after discrepancies were detected during the accounting of donations at the Ram Temple, prompting the temple administration to seek a police investigation.
The Uttar Pradesh Government subsequently constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
Amid increasing scrutiny over the handling of donations, former General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra stepped down from their respective positions.
Meanwhile, the investigation has continued to expand. Besides the eight people already arrested, investigators are now examining nearly 30 additional employees who were engaged in counting cash offerings.
Many of them are alleged to have been appointed on the recommendations of Trust functionaries or individuals closely associated with them.
Police are also scrutinising recruitment records, financial transactions and the overall management of the donation-counting process.
The issue is expected to figure prominently during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which begins on Monday, with the Opposition likely to raise questions regarding transparency, accountability and oversight in the management of donations received at the Ram Temple.
संसद सत्र से पहले राम मंदिर दान विवाद पर विपक्ष का हमला, प्रधानमंत्री से स्वतंत्र जांच की मांग
नई दिल्ली। संसद के मानसून सत्र की शुरुआत से ठीक पहले लोकसभा में नेता प्रतिपक्ष राहुल गांधी और राज्यसभा में नेता प्रतिपक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को संयुक्त पत्र लिखकर श्रीराम जन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र ट्रस्ट में दान राशि से जुड़े कथित वित्तीय अनियमितताओं की स्वतंत्र और व्यापक जांच कराने की मांग की है।
दोनों नेताओं ने कहा कि इस प्रकरण ने उन लाखों श्रद्धालुओं की आस्था को गहरा आघात पहुंचाया है, जिन्होंने विश्वास और श्रद्धा के साथ मंदिर निर्माण के लिए अपना योगदान दिया था।
अपने पत्र में विपक्ष के दोनों नेताओं ने प्रधानमंत्री से आग्रह किया कि ट्रस्ट के वित्तीय प्रबंधन, विशेष रूप से श्रद्धालुओं द्वारा चढ़ाए गए नकद, सोना, चांदी और अन्य चढ़ावों के संचालन की निष्पक्ष जांच कराई जाए।
उन्होंने यह भी मांग की कि जांच रिपोर्ट और ट्रस्ट के वित्तीय लेखे-जोखे को सार्वजनिक किया जाए ताकि प्रत्येक श्रद्धालु यह जान सके कि उसकी आस्था से जुड़े योगदान का उपयोग किस प्रकार किया गया।
पत्र में कहा गया कि दोषी पाए जाने वाले प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के खिलाफ उसके पद या प्रभाव की परवाह किए बिना कार्रवाई होनी चाहिए।
पत्र में यह भी कहा गया है कि केंद्र सरकार और ट्रस्ट दोनों की विश्वसनीयता इस बात पर निर्भर करेगी कि इस पूरे मामले में कितनी पारदर्शिता और कितनी शीघ्रता से कार्रवाई की जाती है।
विपक्षी नेताओं ने कहा कि पूरा देश घटनाक्रम पर नजर रखे हुए है और सरकार की प्रतिक्रिया ही जनता के विश्वास को मजबूत या कमजोर करेगी।
राहुल गांधी और मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे ने अपने पत्र में उल्लेख किया कि श्रीराम जन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र ट्रस्ट का गठन सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के निर्देशों के बाद संसद में घोषित किया गया था, जबकि उसके सदस्यों की नियुक्ति केंद्र सरकार द्वारा की गई।
उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि ट्रस्ट के कई सदस्य राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ (आरएसएस), विश्व हिंदू परिषद (वीएचपी) और उनसे जुड़े संगठनों से सार्वजनिक रूप से जुड़े रहे हैं। पत्र में पूर्व महासचिव चंपत राय का भी उल्लेख करते हुए उन्हें प्रधानमंत्री का करीबी सहयोगी बताया गया और इस पूरे मामले पर सरकार की चुप्पी पर सवाल उठाए गए।
विपक्षी नेताओं ने इस कथित अनियमितता को करोड़ों श्रद्धालुओं के विश्वास के साथ विश्वासघात बताते हुए कहा कि लोगों ने अपनी मेहनत की कमाई धार्मिक आस्था और पूर्ण विश्वास के साथ दान की थी।
उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसे गंभीर आरोपों के बावजूद सरकार का मौन रहना उचित नहीं है और जवाबदेही सुनिश्चित करना उसकी संवैधानिक जिम्मेदारी है।
दान राशि के लेखा-जोखा में कथित गड़बड़ियां सामने आने के बाद मंदिर प्रशासन ने पुलिस से जांच कराने का अनुरोध किया था।
इसके बाद उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने मामले की जांच के लिए विशेष जांच दल (एसआईटी) का गठन किया। इसी बीच दान प्रबंधन को लेकर बढ़ते विवाद के दौरान ट्रस्ट के तत्कालीन महासचिव चंपत राय और ट्रस्टी अनिल मिश्रा ने अपने-अपने पदों से इस्तीफा दे दिया।
मामले की जांच लगातार व्यापक होती जा रही है। अब तक आठ लोगों की गिरफ्तारी हो चुकी है, जबकि नकदी की गिनती में लगे करीब 30 अन्य कर्मचारियों की भूमिका की भी जांच की जा रही है।
जांच एजेंसियां उनकी नियुक्ति प्रक्रिया, वित्तीय लेन-देन और दान राशि के प्रबंधन से जुड़े सभी पहलुओं की पड़ताल कर रही हैं। इनमें से कई कर्मचारियों की नियुक्ति कथित रूप से ट्रस्ट से जुड़े पदाधिकारियों अथवा उनके करीबी लोगों की सिफारिश पर किए जाने की बात भी जांच के दायरे में है।
सोमवार से शुरू हो रहे संसद के मानसून सत्र में यह मुद्दा प्रमुख राजनीतिक विषय बनने की संभावना है। विपक्ष इस मामले में पारदर्शिता, जवाबदेही और श्रद्धालुओं के दान के प्रबंधन को लेकर सरकार से जवाब मांग सकता है।
