PM Modi Appeals for Compassion Over Punishment, Says He Forgives Students for Abusive Social Media Posts

Choosing reconciliation over retribution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he had decided to pardon the young people who posted abusive and offensive remarks against him and even targeted his late mother during the recent student protests in Delhi.

His remarks came even as police investigations into objectionable social media content continued in several states.

Releasing a video message late in the evening, the Prime Minister said that dragging young people into prolonged legal battles or subjecting them to punitive action would not improve the prevailing situation.

Instead, he appealed to society to show understanding and offer them an opportunity to reform.

Reaffirming his faith in India’s younger generation, Modi said he continued to believe in their potential despite the harsh language directed at him.

He observed that youthful errors, though regrettable, often become valuable lessons that help shape character and maturity.

Recalling the nature of the online abuse, the Prime Minister said certain individuals had used language that violated every standard of civility.

He noted that the offensive remarks had not been confined to him alone but had also extended to his late mother.

Without dwelling on the extent of the insults, he said childhood and youth are periods when mistakes can occur, but they are also stages where positive transformation remains possible.

Speaking about the wider public reaction, Modi acknowledged that many people were deeply disturbed by the abusive content.

He described the episode as a cultural setback and said it had raised troubling questions in society, particularly regarding the nature of language used by some young people.

Even so, the Prime Minister maintained that correction should take precedence over punishment.

Rather than alienating young people through criminal proceedings, he said families and society should guide them towards responsible conduct and constructive citizenship.

According to him, the responsibility of elders is to help misguided youngsters regain the right direction instead of burdening them with repeated court appearances and legal harassment, which, he said, would do little to address the underlying issues.

Illustrating his point with a simple comparison, Modi said that when the tongue is accidentally bitten by the teeth, people do not break their teeth in anger because both belong to the same body.

In the same way, he said, the nation’s children are part of one family and deserve guidance rather than rejection.

Calling upon the youth to channel their energy positively, the Prime Minister urged them to pursue their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to India’s progress.

He encouraged them to convert mistakes into opportunities for personal growth and national development.

Emphasising his commitment to the younger generation, Modi said his government was working continuously to secure a brighter future for them.

He appealed to students to move ahead with confidence, learn from their shortcomings and join the country’s journey towards greater development and prosperity.

Concluding his message, the Prime Minister once again urged young people to leave past mistakes behind, embrace positive change and work collectively for the nation’s advancement.

Meanwhile, legal proceedings over the controversial social media content have continued.

Following the circulation of several videos allegedly containing abusive remarks against the Prime Minister, police authorities in Delhi and Noida registered First Information Reports (FIRs) over defamatory and objectionable online posts.

Separate action was also initiated in Telangana, where police registered two criminal cases over alleged morphed and offensive social media material targeting the Prime Minister.

The cases named operators of certain Facebook and Instagram accounts as well as the head of Meta India.

Responding to the development, a spokesperson for Meta said the company was coordinating with the relevant authorities and extending full cooperation in resolving the matter.

टकराव की बजाय संवाद और क्षमा का संदेश देते हुए प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने शुक्रवार को कहा कि दिल्ली में छात्र आंदोलन के दौरान सोशल मीडिया पर उनके तथा उनकी दिवंगत माता के खिलाफ अभद्र टिप्पणियां करने वाले युवाओं को वह क्षमा करना चाहते हैं।

उनका यह संदेश ऐसे समय आया है जब इन पोस्टों को लेकर विभिन्न राज्यों में पुलिस जांच और कानूनी कार्रवाई जारी है।

देर रात जारी एक वीडियो संदेश में प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि युवाओं को अदालतों के चक्कर लगवाने या दंडात्मक कार्रवाई के दायरे में लाने से परिस्थितियों में कोई सकारात्मक बदलाव नहीं आएगा।

उन्होंने समाज से भी अपील की कि इन युवाओं को सुधार का अवसर दिया जाए और उन्हें स्वीकार करते हुए आगे बढ़ने का मार्ग दिखाया जाए।

देश के युवाओं पर अपना भरोसा दोहराते हुए मोदी ने कहा कि अपमानजनक भाषा का सामना करने के बावजूद उनका विश्वास नई पीढ़ी से कम नहीं हुआ है।

उन्होंने कहा कि जीवन के शुरुआती दौर में गलतियां होना असामान्य नहीं है और कई बार यही अनुभव व्यक्ति के सीखने तथा बेहतर बनने की नींव रखते हैं।

प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि कुछ शरारती युवाओं ने ऐसी भाषा का प्रयोग किया जो किसी सभ्य समाज की मर्यादा के अनुरूप नहीं कही जा सकती।

उन्होंने उल्लेख किया कि अभद्र टिप्पणियां केवल उनके खिलाफ ही नहीं बल्कि उनकी दिवंगत माता तक के लिए की गईं।

इसके बावजूद उन्होंने कहा कि बचपन और युवावस्था परिवर्तन की सबसे बड़ी संभावना का समय होती है और ऐसे अवसरों पर सुधार की राह खुली रहनी चाहिए।

समाज में उत्पन्न प्रतिक्रिया का उल्लेख करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री ने स्वीकार किया कि इस पूरे घटनाक्रम से व्यापक आक्रोश और पीड़ा स्वाभाविक है।

उन्होंने कहा कि इस प्रकार की भाषा सामाजिक और सांस्कृतिक मूल्यों के लिए भी गंभीर चिंता का विषय है तथा लोगों के मन में कई प्रश्न खड़े करती है।

हालांकि उन्होंने स्पष्ट किया कि ऐसे मामलों में प्रतिशोध नहीं बल्कि मार्गदर्शन अधिक महत्वपूर्ण है।

उनका कहना था कि भटके हुए युवाओं को दंडित करने के बजाय उन्हें सही दिशा देना समाज और परिवार दोनों की जिम्मेदारी है।

प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि यदि युवाओं को केवल कानूनी प्रक्रियाओं में उलझाया जाएगा और अदालतों के चक्कर कटवाए जाएंगे, तो इससे मूल समस्या का समाधान नहीं होगा।

उनके अनुसार वास्तविक परिवर्तन तभी संभव है जब उन्हें समझाया जाए और सकारात्मक दिशा में आगे बढ़ने के लिए प्रेरित किया जाए।

अपनी बात को सरल उदाहरण से समझाते हुए मोदी ने कहा कि कई बार जीभ अनजाने में दांतों के बीच आ जाती है, लेकिन कोई व्यक्ति अपने दांत नहीं तोड़ता क्योंकि दोनों उसी शरीर का हिस्सा हैं।

उसी प्रकार देश के बच्चे भी हमारे अपने हैं और उन्हें सही मार्ग पर ले जाना ही समाज का कर्तव्य है।

युवाओं को संबोधित करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री ने उन्हें अपने सपनों को साकार करने और राष्ट्र निर्माण में सक्रिय भूमिका निभाने का आह्वान किया।

उन्होंने कहा कि हर गलती से सीख लेकर आगे बढ़ना चाहिए और व्यक्तिगत प्रगति को देश की उन्नति से जोड़ना चाहिए।

उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार का उद्देश्य प्रत्येक युवा के उज्ज्वल भविष्य का निर्माण करना है और इसी लक्ष्य के साथ निरंतर कार्य किया जा रहा है।

उन्होंने विद्यार्थियों से आग्रह किया कि वे अपनी भूलों को पीछे छोड़कर नए संकल्प के साथ आगे बढ़ें और विकसित भारत के निर्माण में अपनी भूमिका निभाएं।

अपने संदेश का समापन करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री ने एक बार फिर युवाओं से आह्वान किया कि वे गलतियों से सीख लें, सकारात्मक बदलाव को अपनाएं और देश की प्रगति के लिए मिलकर कार्य करें।

उधर, सोशल मीडिया पर प्रसारित आपत्तिजनक सामग्री को लेकर कानूनी कार्रवाई जारी है। प्रधानमंत्री के खिलाफ कथित रूप से अभद्र टिप्पणियों वाले कई वीडियो सामने आने के बाद दिल्ली और नोएडा पुलिस ने मानहानिकारक तथा आपत्तिजनक पोस्टों के संबंध में प्राथमिकी दर्ज की है।

तेलंगाना में भी इस मामले में दो अलग-अलग आपराधिक प्रकरण दर्ज किए गए हैं। पुलिस ने प्रधानमंत्री को निशाना बनाकर कथित रूप से मॉर्फ की गई और आपत्तिजनक सामग्री प्रसारित करने के आरोप में कुछ फेसबुक और इंस्टाग्राम खातों के संचालकों के साथ-साथ मेटा इंडिया के प्रमुख को भी नामजद किया है।

मामले पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए मेटा के प्रवक्ता ने कहा कि कंपनी संबंधित एजेंसियों के संपर्क में है और जांच प्रक्रिया में पूरा सहयोग कर रही है।
