PM Modi Calls for Equal Education, Modern Learning Reforms; Appeals for Compassion Towards Students Over Protest Row
The Centre has reaffirmed its commitment to building an education system that guarantees equal access and eliminates every form of discrimination, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that the benefits of learning and opportunity must reach every section of society, particularly the poor and those on the margins.
Addressing the inauguration of the Viveka Smaraka and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre in Mysuru, Karnataka, on Saturday, the Prime Minister said the ideals of Swami Vivekananda continue to guide India’s efforts to create a just and inclusive educational framework.
Recalling the teachings of the revered monk, Modi observed that Swami Vivekananda viewed social equality and education as inseparable pillars of national progress.
He said the government’s policies are focused on ensuring that no individual is denied opportunities because of language, economic background or social status.
Referring to recent reforms, he highlighted that professional courses such as medicine and engineering are increasingly available in regional languages, a move he described as a major step towards removing linguistic barriers and widening access to higher education.
Highlighting the broader transformation underway, the Prime Minister said the country’s academic ecosystem is being reshaped to meet the aspirations of a rapidly changing world.
According to him, efforts are centred on equipping young Indians with the knowledge and skills required for the demands of the 21st century.
His remarks came only days after the Union government reshuffled the Human Resource portfolio, appointing Prahlad Joshi as Education Minister following Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation amid nationwide outrage over allegations of examination paper leaks.
In a separate message released late on Friday, the Prime Minister struck a conciliatory note over the recent student demonstrations at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where abusive slogans were allegedly raised against him and his late mother.
Describing those involved as youngsters who had lost their way, Modi said they deserved understanding and guidance instead of prolonged legal action or social ostracism.
Expressing disappointment over the language reportedly used during the protest, he remarked that such expressions had no place in a civilised society.
Even so, he maintained that responding with vengeance would not serve any constructive purpose.
Rather than forcing students into years of litigation or subjecting them to public humiliation, society should make every effort to help them recognise their mistakes and return to the right path, he said.
Announcing that he had personally decided to forgive the students, the Prime Minister appealed to the public to respond with the same spirit of compassion.
Illustrating his point with a simple analogy, he said that when a person accidentally bites the tongue, no one chooses to break their own teeth because both belong to the same body.
In the same way, he said, the nation’s children should not be abandoned because of one grave mistake.
Ending his appeal on a hopeful note, Modi invited the students to put the controversy behind them and participate in India’s journey of development.
Every mistake, he said, should become an opportunity to learn and improve.
Stressing that his efforts are dedicated to securing a brighter future for the country’s youth, he urged them to join hands in the task of nation-building and move forward together with renewed purpose.

देश में भेदभाव-मुक्त शिक्षा व्यवस्था और सभी नागरिकों के लिए समान अवसर सुनिश्चित करने की प्रतिबद्धता दोहराते हुए प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने शनिवार को कहा कि शिक्षा का लाभ समाज के अंतिम व्यक्ति तक पहुँचना चाहिए।
कर्नाटक के मैसूर में विवेक स्मारक तथा स्वामी विवेकानंद सांस्कृतिक युवा केंद्र के उद्घाटन समारोह को संबोधित करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि स्वामी विवेकानंद के विचार आज भी भारत को समावेशी और न्यायपूर्ण शिक्षा व्यवस्था की दिशा में प्रेरित कर रहे हैं।
प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि स्वामी विवेकानंद का मानना था कि राष्ट्र की प्रगति केवल शिक्षा से नहीं, बल्कि सामाजिक समानता से भी सुनिश्चित होती है।
उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार ऐसी व्यवस्था विकसित कर रही है जिसमें किसी भी छात्र को भाषा, आर्थिक स्थिति या सामाजिक पृष्ठभूमि के कारण अवसरों से वंचित न होना पड़े।
उन्होंने इस बात पर भी जोर दिया कि चिकित्सा और इंजीनियरिंग जैसे व्यावसायिक पाठ्यक्रम अब मातृभाषाओं में भी उपलब्ध कराए जा रहे हैं, जिससे भाषाई बाधाएं कम होंगी और उच्च शिक्षा तक अधिक लोगों की पहुंच बनेगी।
शिक्षा क्षेत्र में चल रहे व्यापक बदलावों का उल्लेख करते हुए मोदी ने कहा कि देश की नई पीढ़ी को इक्कीसवीं सदी की चुनौतियों और आवश्यकताओं के अनुरूप तैयार किया जा रहा है।
उनके अनुसार शिक्षा व्यवस्था को आधुनिक बनाया जा रहा है ताकि युवा वैश्विक प्रतिस्पर्धा में मजबूती से आगे बढ़ सकें।
प्रधानमंत्री की यह टिप्पणी ऐसे समय आई है जब हाल ही में केंद्र सरकार ने शिक्षा मंत्रालय में बदलाव करते हुए धर्मेंद्र प्रधान के इस्तीफे के बाद प्रह्लाद जोशी को नई जिम्मेदारी सौंपी है।
धर्मेंद्र प्रधान ने कथित परीक्षा पत्र लीक मामलों को लेकर देशव्यापी विरोध के बीच पद छोड़ा था।
इसी बीच शुक्रवार देर रात जारी अपने वीडियो संदेश में प्रधानमंत्री ने दिल्ली के जंतर-मंतर पर हुए छात्र प्रदर्शन के दौरान उनके और उनकी दिवंगत माता के खिलाफ कथित रूप से की गई अभद्र टिप्पणियों पर भी प्रतिक्रिया दी।
उन्होंने प्रदर्शन में शामिल युवाओं को “भटके हुए बच्चे” बताते हुए कहा कि उन्हें सजा या लंबे कानूनी संघर्ष में उलझाने के बजाय सही दिशा दिखाने की आवश्यकता है।
उन्होंने कहा कि विरोध प्रदर्शन के दौरान इस्तेमाल की गई भाषा किसी भी सभ्य समाज के अनुरूप नहीं मानी जा सकती, फिर भी प्रतिशोध का मार्ग समाधान नहीं हो सकता।
प्रधानमंत्री के अनुसार यदि ऐसे छात्रों को अदालतों के चक्कर कटवाए जाएं या सामाजिक रूप से प्रताड़ित किया जाए तो परिस्थितियां नहीं बदलेंगी।
इसके बजाय समाज का दायित्व है कि उन्हें अपनी भूल का एहसास कराते हुए सकारात्मक रास्ते पर लौटने का अवसर दिया जाए।
प्रधानमंत्री ने स्पष्ट किया कि उन्होंने व्यक्तिगत रूप से उन छात्रों को क्षमा करने का निर्णय लिया है और समाज से भी यही भावना अपनाने की अपील की।
अपनी बात को सरल उदाहरण से समझाते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि यदि गलती से जीभ दांतों के बीच आ जाए और खून निकल आए, तब भी कोई अपने दांत नहीं तोड़ता, क्योंकि दोनों अपने ही शरीर का हिस्सा हैं।
उसी प्रकार देश के बच्चे भी अपने ही हैं और एक गलती के कारण उन्हें हमेशा के लिए ठुकराया नहीं जाना चाहिए।
अपने संदेश के अंत में उन्होंने युवाओं से अतीत की कटुता छोड़कर राष्ट्र निर्माण में सक्रिय भागीदारी का आह्वान किया।
उन्होंने कहा कि प्रत्येक भूल सीखने और स्वयं को बेहतर बनाने का अवसर होती है।
देश के उज्ज्वल भविष्य के लिए अपने समर्पण का उल्लेख करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री ने छात्रों से हाथ मिलाकर विकसित भारत के निर्माण की यात्रा में सहभागी बनने की अपील की।
