Prayagraj Coal Store Tragedy: Gangster Act to Be Invoked Against Former MLA and Six Others
Authorities in Prayagraj are preparing to invoke the Gangster Act against former MLA Ansar Ahmad and six others in connection with the fatal coal store incident in Chandaipur, Phaphamau.
The action follows the devastating accident on March 23, in which four labourers lost their lives after a coal store collapsed.
The decision has been taken on the directions of Police Commissioner Joginder Kumar. The Commissionerate Police has initiated the process of attaching the properties of the accused and sending them to jail as part of the legal proceedings.
The incident occurred at the Adarsh Coal Store in Chandaipur, Phaphamau. Preliminary findings revealed that serious lapses in safety measures led to the accident.
Apart from the four workers who died, 12 others sustained injuries in the mishap.
Police have already arrested former MLA Ansar Ahmad, along with Mazhar, Abdul Hamid, Mohammad Altaf, Mohammad Usman, Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Aslam. All seven accused have been sent to judicial custody.
Investigators found that the coal store was operating in violation of prescribed safety standards.
The inquiry also indicated that coal had been stored beyond the authorised capacity, causing excessive pressure on the walls.
The overloaded structure eventually collapsed, exposing negligence in maintaining mandatory safety norms.
Police Commissioner Joginder Kumar said preparations are underway to initiate action under the Gangster Act against all the accused.
Officials are also collecting details of their movable and immovable assets so that property attachment proceedings can be carried out.
Information related to their financial transactions is being gathered from the Revenue Department, Development Authority, banks, and other concerned agencies.

प्रयागराज के फाफामऊ स्थित चंदैयपुर में हुए कोल स्टोर हादसे के मामले में पुलिस अब पूर्व विधायक अंसार अहमद समेत सात आरोपियों के खिलाफ गैंगस्टर एक्ट के तहत कार्रवाई की तैयारी कर रही है।
यह मामला 23 मार्च को हुए उस दर्दनाक हादसे से जुड़ा है, जिसमें चार मजदूरों की जान चली गई थी।
पुलिस आयुक्त जोगिंदर कुमार के निर्देश पर कमिश्नरेट पुलिस ने आरोपियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई तेज कर दी है। पुलिस उनकी चल-अचल संपत्तियों का ब्योरा जुटाने के साथ-साथ कानूनी प्रक्रिया के तहत संपत्ति जब्त करने और सख्त कार्रवाई की तैयारी में जुटी है।
यह हादसा फाफामऊ के चंदैयपुर स्थित आदर्श कोल स्टोर में हुआ था। शुरुआती जांच में सामने आया कि सुरक्षा मानकों का पालन नहीं किया गया था। दुर्घटना में चार श्रमिकों की मौत हो गई, जबकि 12 अन्य लोग घायल हुए थे।
पुलिस ने मामले में पूर्व विधायक अंसार अहमद, मजहर, अब्दुल हमीद, मोहम्मद अल्ताफ, मोहम्मद उस्मान, मोहम्मद इरफान और मोहम्मद असलम को गिरफ्तार कर जेल भेज दिया है। सभी आरोपियों के खिलाफ कानूनी कार्रवाई जारी है।
जांच में यह भी सामने आया कि कोल स्टोर में निर्धारित क्षमता से अधिक कोयले का भंडारण किया गया था। अत्यधिक भार पड़ने से दीवारों पर दबाव बढ़ गया और पूरी संरचना ढह गई। जांच एजेंसियों ने सुरक्षा मानकों की अनदेखी और लापरवाही को हादसे का प्रमुख कारण माना है।
पुलिस आयुक्त जोगिंदर कुमार ने बताया कि सभी आरोपियों पर गैंगस्टर एक्ट के तहत कार्रवाई की प्रक्रिया शुरू की जा रही है। इसके साथ ही उनकी चल और अचल संपत्तियों का पूरा विवरण जुटाया जा रहा है ताकि जब्ती की कार्रवाई की जा सके।
आरोपियों से जुड़े वित्तीय लेन-देन की जानकारी राजस्व विभाग, विकास प्राधिकरण, बैंकों और अन्य संबंधित विभागों से भी एकत्र की जा रही है।
