Prayagraj Man Jumps into Yamuna After Domestic Dispute; Wife Saved by Police from Similar Attempt
Prayagraj: A domestic dispute took a tragic turn when a 32-year-old man allegedly jumped into the Yamuna River from the New Yamuna Bridge on Sunday evening.
Despite a prolonged search operation, divers later recovered his body from the river. Police suspect that prolonged marital discord may have pushed him to take the extreme step.
The deceased was identified as Akash Sonkar, a resident of Newada under the Cantt police station limits.
He earned his livelihood by selling matar chaat from a handcart.
According to police, Akash had consumed alcohol on Sunday evening before an argument broke out with his wife.
He then left home and reportedly telephoned her, informing her of his intention to end his life. Soon afterwards, he switched off his mobile phone.
Acting on the information, the Kydganj police reached the New Yamuna Bridge and launched a search operation with the help of divers.
Akash’s 30-year-old wife, Muskan Sonkar, also arrived at the spot along with family members and relatives.
Sub-Inspector Munish Kumar Singh of the River Police was supervising the rescue operation.
During the search, Muskan, overcome with grief, allegedly attempted to jump into the river.
However, alert police personnel immediately intervened, pulled her to safety, and prevented another tragedy.
Police said the couple has two daughters.
Preliminary investigation suggests that frequent disputes between the husband and wife had strained their relationship in recent months.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings are underway.

प्रयागराज: घरेलू कलह ने रविवार शाम एक परिवार की खुशियां छीन लीं। पति-पत्नी के बीच हुए विवाद के बाद 32 वर्षीय आकाश सोनकर ने नए यमुना पुल से यमुना नदी में छलांग लगा दी।
सूचना मिलते ही शुरू किए गए तलाश अभियान के दौरान गोताखोरों ने काफी मशक्कत के बाद उसका शव नदी से बाहर निकाला। पुलिस की प्रारंभिक जांच में पारिवारिक तनाव को घटना की मुख्य वजह माना जा रहा है।
आकाश सोनकर कैंट थाना क्षेत्र के नेवादा का निवासी था। वह ठेले पर मटर चाट बेचकर अपने परिवार का पालन-पोषण करता था।
पुलिस के अनुसार, रविवार शाम शराब पीने के बाद उसका पत्नी से विवाद हुआ। इसके बाद वह घर से निकल गया और मोबाइल फोन पर पत्नी को आत्मघाती कदम उठाने की जानकारी देने के बाद अपना फोन बंद कर दिया।
सूचना मिलते ही कीडगंज पुलिस नए यमुना पुल पर पहुंची और गोताखोरों की मदद से खोज अभियान शुरू कराया।
कुछ ही देर में मृतक की 30 वर्षीय पत्नी मुस्कान सोनकर भी अपने परिजनों और रिश्तेदारों के साथ घटनास्थल पर पहुंच गई।
तलाश एवं राहत अभियान की निगरानी नदी पुलिस के उपनिरीक्षक मुनीश कुमार सिंह कर रहे थे।
इसी दौरान पति की मौत की सूचना से व्यथित मुस्कान ने भी यमुना में कूदने का प्रयास किया। मौके पर मौजूद पुलिसकर्मियों ने तत्काल सतर्कता दिखाते हुए उसे सुरक्षित बाहर निकाल लिया और एक और बड़ा हादसा होने से बचा लिया।
पुलिस के अनुसार, दंपती की दो बेटियां हैं। शुरुआती जांच में सामने आया है कि पति-पत्नी के बीच लगातार चल रहे विवाद के कारण आकाश मानसिक तनाव में था। शव को पोस्टमार्टम के लिए भेज दिया गया है और मामले में आगे की वैधानिक कार्रवाई की जा रही है।
