Prayagraj Photographer Murder: ₹50,000 Debt Allegedly Ends in Killing, Body Dumped in Rewa
Three held after CCTV trail leads police to photographer’s killers; weapon and car recovered, property dealer named as wanted accused

PRAYAGRAJ: A nearly three-week search for missing photographer Alok Gupta has ended with police uncovering a murder allegedly rooted in a ₹50,000 debt and carried out by people known to him.
Police said Gupta, 27, was killed inside his rented apartment in Harwara during what was supposed to be a birthday gathering.
His body was subsequently concealed in a large blue trolley bag, transported by car and abandoned on Suhagi hill in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, around 60 km away.
The breakthrough came from surveillance footage recorded at Gupta’s apartment.
Investigators found that three young men were seen leaving the premises late on August 11 while carrying a conspicuously large blue trolley bag.
The footage became a crucial lead in tracing the missing photographer.
The three arrested suspects have been identified as Shubham Tiwari of Bisani alias Harisenjganj in Mauaima, Shubham Yadav of Lal Ka Pura in Holagarh and Ankush Yadav, a native of Kumhi in Sultanpur’s Dostpur area who was residing in Miyorabad Cantonment.
Dhumanganj police arrested them on Thursday beneath the Subedarganj flyover, officials said.
According to police, Tiwari and Gupta were friends. Investigators believe a financial dispute gradually poisoned their relationship after Tiwari allegedly borrowed about ₹50,000 from Gupta.
Police said repeated taunts and humiliation over the unpaid money allegedly deepened Tiwari’s resentment.
The investigators’ version is that Tiwari subsequently enlisted Shubham Yadav and Ankush Yadav to carry out the killing.
During the birthday gathering, Gupta was allegedly shot and then strangled to ensure his death.
The accused then allegedly placed the body inside the blue trolley bag and used a car to transport it out of Prayagraj.
The body was later dumped at Suhagi hill in Rewa district, according to police.
The case had already taken an unexpected turn in Rewa before Gupta’s identity was established.
Police there had recovered an unidentified body from the hill area and, after post-mortem formalities, the remains had been cremated.
Gupta’s family subsequently connected the unidentified body to their missing relative.
Photographs, clothing and the bag found at the site helped them establish his identity, officials said.
Gupta, originally from Kunda, lived alone in a rented flat at an apartment complex in Harwara and earned his livelihood by photographing weddings and other social functions.
His mobile phone had remained switched off from the night of August 10, prompting concern over his whereabouts.
His mother, Rekha Devi, formally reported him missing at the Dhoomanganj police station on August 22.
The subsequent examination of the apartment’s CCTV recordings eventually provided investigators with the lead that helped unravel the case.
Police said the country-made pistol allegedly used in the crime and the car used to transport the body have been recovered from the arrested suspects.
A fourth person has also come under the police lens.
Property dealer Vipin Shukla of Phaphamau, who allegedly arranged the pistol and vehicle for the accused, has been declared wanted in connection with the case.
DCP (City) Sagar Jain announced the arrests and the investigation findings at Police Lines on Thursday.
The arrests have brought an end to the immediate mystery surrounding Gupta’s disappearance, while police continue to pursue the alleged role of the wanted property dealer.
The case has also highlighted how investigators pieced together a missing-person complaint, apartment surveillance footage and the identification of an initially unidentified body to reconstruct the alleged sequence of events.

प्रयागराज: करीब तीन सप्ताह से लापता फोटोग्राफर आलोक गुप्ता की गुमशुदगी का मामला आखिरकार हत्या की वारदात में बदल गया।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, करीब 50 हजार रुपये के लेनदेन को लेकर उपजे विवाद ने दोस्ती में ऐसी दरार पैदा की कि आलोक की कथित तौर पर हत्या कर दी गई।
उसके शव को नीले ट्रॉली बैग में रखकर कार से मध्य प्रदेश के रीवा जिले की सुहागी पहाड़ी तक ले जाया गया और वहां छोड़ दिया गया।
पुलिस की जांच में सामने आया कि 27 वर्षीय आलोक धूमनगंज क्षेत्र के हरवारा स्थित एक अपार्टमेंट में किराये के फ्लैट में रहता था।
शादी-विवाह और दूसरे समारोहों में फोटोग्राफी कर वह अपनी आजीविका चलाता था। 10 अगस्त की रात उसका मोबाइल बंद हो गया और इसके बाद उसका कोई पता नहीं चला।
जांच को निर्णायक दिशा अपार्टमेंट के सीसीटीवी कैमरों से मिली। फुटेज में 11 अगस्त की रात तीन युवक आलोक के फ्लैट से एक बड़ा नीला ट्रॉली बैग बाहर ले जाते दिखाई दिए।
पुलिस ने इसी सुराग के आधार पर संदिग्धों की पहचान और उनकी तलाश शुरू की।
गुरुवार को धूमनगंज पुलिस ने सूबेदारगंज फ्लाईओवर के नीचे से तीन युवकों को गिरफ्तार किया।
उनकी पहचान मऊआइमा के बिसानी उर्फ हरिसेनगंज निवासी शुभम तिवारी, होलागढ़ के लाल का पुरा निवासी शुभम यादव और सुल्तानपुर के दोस्तपुर क्षेत्र के कुमही निवासी अंकुश यादव के रूप में हुई है। अंकुश वर्तमान में म्योराबाद कैंट इलाके में रह रहा था।
पुलिस के अनुसार, आलोक और शुभम तिवारी के बीच पहले से दोस्ती थी। जांच में आरोप है कि शुभम ने आलोक से करीब 50 हजार रुपये उधार लिए थे।
रकम लौटाने को लेकर दोनों के बीच तनाव बढ़ता गया। पुलिस का कहना है कि आलोक द्वारा बार-बार रुपये मांगने और शुभम को कथित तौर पर अपमानित किए जाने से वह नाराज था।
इसी नाराजगी के बाद शुभम तिवारी ने कथित तौर पर शुभम यादव और अंकुश यादव को साथ लिया और आलोक को रास्ते से हटाने की योजना बनाई।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, वारदात आलोक के फ्लैट में जन्मदिन की पार्टी के दौरान अंजाम दी गई। पहले उसे गोली मारी गई और बाद में गला दबाकर उसकी जान लेने का आरोप है।
हत्या के बाद आरोपियों ने शव को बड़े नीले ट्रॉली बैग में रखा। इसके बाद कार से उसे प्रयागराज से करीब 60 किलोमीटर दूर रीवा जिले की सुहागी पहाड़ी ले जाया गया, जहां शव फेंक दिया गया। इस पूरी प्रक्रिया में इस्तेमाल किए गए वाहन और हथियार को पुलिस ने बरामद कर लिया है।
इस बीच रीवा पुलिस को सुहागी पहाड़ी से एक अज्ञात शव मिला था। पहचान नहीं हो पाने के कारण पोस्टमार्टम के बाद उसका अंतिम संस्कार करा दिया गया था।
बाद में आलोक के परिवार ने फोटो, कपड़ों और घटनास्थल से मिले बैग के आधार पर शव की पहचान अपने बेटे के रूप में की।
आलोक की मां रेखा देवी ने 22 अगस्त को धूमनगंज थाने में उसकी गुमशुदगी दर्ज कराई थी।
इसके बाद पुलिस ने अपार्टमेंट और आसपास लगे सीसीटीवी कैमरों की रिकॉर्डिंग खंगाली। इसी दौरान सामने आए नीले ट्रॉली बैग वाले फुटेज ने जांच की दिशा बदल दी।
पुलिस ने हत्या में इस्तेमाल की गई पिस्टल और शव को ले जाने वाली कार भी बरामद की हैं।
पुलिस के अनुसार, फाफामऊ के प्रॉपर्टी डीलर विपिन शुक्ल ने कथित तौर पर आरोपियों को पिस्टल और कार उपलब्ध कराई थी। उसे इस मामले में वांछित घोषित किया गया है।
डीसीपी नगर सागर जैन ने गुरुवार को पुलिस लाइन में मामले का खुलासा करते हुए गिरफ्तारियों की जानकारी दी।
पुलिस अब फरार बताए जा रहे विपिन शुक्ल की भूमिका की जांच के साथ मामले से जुड़े अन्य पहलुओं को भी खंगाल रही है।
आलोक की गुमशुदगी से शुरू हुई जांच सीसीटीवी फुटेज, आरोपियों की गिरफ्तारी और रीवा में मिले अज्ञात शव की पहचान तक पहुंची। पुलिस के मुताबिक, इन्हीं कड़ियों को जोड़कर करीब तीन सप्ताह से अनसुलझी गुत्थी सुलझाई जा सकी।
