Prayagraj Quadruple Murder: Accused Spent 11 Hours Erasing Evidence Before Killing Alleged Accomplice
The investigation into the gruesome murder of four members of a business family in Prayagraj’s South Malaka area has revealed chilling details about the events that unfolded inside the house after the killings.
According to police, the accused, Sunny Gupta, remained inside the residence for nearly 11 hours following the murders, meticulously attempting to destroy evidence before eventually leaving the crime scene.
During interrogation, Sunny reportedly told investigators that after the murders were carried out on Sunday evening, he heated water in the kitchen and used detergent to scrub bloodstains from various rooms.
He allegedly collected jewellery and valuables into a bag but refrained from leaving immediately, fearing that his movements might attract attention and lead to his arrest.
Police said the accused later bathed inside the house, changed into clothes belonging to the deceased businessman Virendra Vaishya, and wore his shoes before stepping out.
Investigators claim he also tried to eliminate forensic traces by pouring detergent, toilet cleaner, bleaching powder, turmeric and mustard oil over the bodies of the victims.
Electronic devices, including mobile phones and a laptop, were allegedly thrown into water in an effort to destroy potential evidence.
Since there was no clock inside the house and he was afraid of venturing outside, Sunny reportedly remained indoors until dawn. Around 5 a.m., he finally left the residence disguised in the victim’s clothing.
“If He Could Betray His Parents, He Could Betray Me Too”
The accused also disclosed details of an alleged dispute with Abhishek Vaishya, the son of the family and his close associate.
According to Sunny, after the valuables were collected, Abhishek offered him only a small share of the jewellery—five bangles and a necklace—while suggesting that the remaining items would be divided later.
Sunny told investigators that this raised doubts in his mind. He allegedly felt that if Abhishek could turn against his own parents, he might eventually betray him as well.
An argument reportedly broke out over the division of the stolen ornaments, escalating into a violent confrontation.
Police said that during the altercation, Sunny struck Abhishek on the head with the same iron rod that had allegedly been used in the earlier attacks, killing him on the spot.
This turned the triple murder into a quadruple homicide.
Accused Returned to Crime Scene to Retrieve Evidence
Investigators have also learned that Sunny revisited the house after initially leaving.
According to police, he first threw a bag containing jewellery into the rear portion of the property before locking the house and walking away.
He later recovered the bag and concealed it at his shop.
However, in his haste, he had inadvertently left behind his slippers and the iron pipe allegedly used in the murders while wearing the deceased’s shoes.
Realising the mistake, he reportedly returned to the house, changed back into his footwear and retrieved the weapon before leaving again.
Entire Family Allegedly Killed Within an Hour
The police investigation suggests that the entire crime unfolded within roughly one hour. Sunny allegedly told officers that Abhishek had invited him to the house on Sunday afternoon, asking him to bring beer and snacks.
During their meeting, the two allegedly discussed a plan to eliminate family members and steal valuables from the house.
According to investigators, the first victim was Abhishek’s sister Meenakshi. At around 5 p.m., as she descended the staircase to open the family’s gift shop, she was allegedly attacked.
Police claim Abhishek struck her with an iron rod while Sunny pushed her, after which the two dragged her body upstairs and left it near the staircase.
The accused then allegedly targeted Virendra Vaishya and his wife in an upstairs room. Investigators say both were attacked with the iron rod and killed.
After the murders, the assailants reportedly opened cupboards, searched for valuables and scattered clothing over the bodies.
Police further stated that documents, mobile phones, clothing, a laptop and other belongings were later dumped into a water tank located behind the kitchen in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.
After collecting jewellery from the house, the duo allegedly moved downstairs to Abhishek’s shop.
Investigators believe the iron pipe used in the attack had rough, damaged edges, which caused injuries to Sunny’s hands during the assault.
These injuries are now considered an important part of the forensic evidence being examined by investigators.
The case has sent shockwaves across Prayagraj, with residents struggling to comprehend how a crime of such brutality could have unfolded within a single family.
Police continue to investigate the motive, sequence of events, and any possible involvement of additional individuals.
