Prayagraj Road Accident Tragedy: Young Man Dies After Bike-Van Collision, Family Stages Protest Seeking Justice

Prayagraj: A tragic road accident on the Unchdih–Uruwa route in Prayagraj claimed the life of a young man, while another victim continues to battle for survival in hospital.

The collision occurred on Saturday near Pattinath Rai village when a motorcycle and a Maruti van crashed into each other with tremendous force, leaving two riders critically injured.

Both victims were rushed to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj for emergency treatment. However, 18-year-old Dheeraj Pal, son of Raju Pal and a resident of Sonbarsa village, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning during treatment.

The second injured rider, 25-year-old Suresh Pal, remains hospitalized and is reported to be in critical condition.

Following Dheeraj’s death, his body was sent for a post-mortem examination. When his mortal remains arrived at his residence on Sunday evening, grief engulfed the entire village.

Thousands of residents gathered to offer condolences and pay their final respects.

The sudden loss of the young man left family members devastated, particularly his father, Raju Pal, who was inconsolable.

According to local sources, Dheeraj was the only surviving child of his parents.

The family had already suffered immense tragedy in the past, having lost his mother and elder brother in an earlier accident.

His untimely death has therefore deepened the family’s anguish.

Tensions escalated after the body reached the village.

Angry relatives and supporters placed Dheeraj’s body on the road near a hospital owned by the alleged van owner at Sonar Ka Tara on the Dighiya route, blocking traffic in protest.

The demonstrators demanded that a criminal case be registered against the van owner and that strict legal action, including arrest, be taken.

Upon receiving information about the road blockade, the Meja police team reached the scene and attempted to pacify the protesters.

Police officials also initiated talks between the victim’s family and the hospital operator. However, by the time of reporting, no agreement had been reached, and discussions were still ongoing.

Elderly Woman Injured in Road Mishap Dies During Treatment

In a separate incident, an unidentified elderly woman who was seriously injured in a road accident in the Shankargarh area lost her life while undergoing medical treatment.

The accident occurred on Friday near Mavaiya Mod under the Naribari police outpost limits. According to police, the woman was struck by an unidentified vehicle while crossing or walking near the roadway.

After receiving information, an ambulance rushed her to the Community Health Centre in Shankargarh.

Due to the severity of her injuries, doctors referred her to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Prayagraj for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, she passed away on Saturday.

Authorities have not yet been able to establish the woman’s identity. Police have preserved the body at the post-mortem facility and are continuing efforts to identify her while completing the necessary legal formalities.
