Pune Murder Case: FDA Shuts Down Grocery Business Owned by Siya Goyal’s Family Over Alleged Food Safety Violations
Pune: Fresh complications have emerged for the family of 20-year-old Siya Goyal, who is facing allegations of murdering her 25-year-old fiancé, Ketan Agarwal.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has directed the closure of the family’s grocery establishment after an inspection allegedly revealed violations of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations.
The business primarily trades in spices, dry fruits, and other food products.
Acting on specific information, officials of the FDA conducted a detailed inspection at the family’s commercial premises in Pune’s Gultekdi area.
During the operation, the enforcement team collected and seized 84 food samples, including turmeric powder, edible oil,l and soybean nuggets.
The confiscated stock weighed approximately 4,172 kilograms and was estimated to be worth around ₹8.13 lakh.
Providing details of the action, FDA Joint Commissioner D.V. Bhogawade said the seizure was carried out under the statewide Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra campaign.
According to him, the products were taken into custody because the establishment allegedly failed to comply with mandatory provisions laid down under food safety regulations.
Officials further stated that despite earlier directions to rectify the deficiencies, the required corrective measures were not implemented by the business.
As a result, the department has issued a closure notice, directing the establishment to suspend all operations until further orders are issued.
Explaining the department’s enforcement process, Bhogawade said the FDA receives nearly 25 to 30 complaints every day, many of them submitted anonymously.
He emphasised that every complaint is examined and acted upon after due verification.
Authorities have sent the seized food samples for laboratory analysis. Further legal and regulatory action, the FDA said, will depend on the outcome of the test reports and the findings of the scientific examination.

महाराष्ट्र खाद्य एवं औषधि प्रशासन (एफडीए) ने जांच के बाद परिवार की किराना एवं खाद्य सामग्री से जुड़ी फर्म को खाद्य सुरक्षा मानकों के कथित उल्लंघन के आरोप में तत्काल प्रभाव से बंद करने का आदेश दिया है।
यह प्रतिष्ठान मुख्य रूप से मसाले, सूखे मेवे और अन्य खाद्य उत्पादों का कारोबार करता है।
विशिष्ट सूचना मिलने के बाद एफडीए की टीम ने पुणे के गुलटेकड़ी स्थित कारोबारी परिसर में विस्तृत निरीक्षण किया। जांच के दौरान अधिकारियों ने हल्दी पाउडर, खाद्य तेल और सोयाबीन बड़ी सहित विभिन्न खाद्य पदार्थों के कुल 84 नमूने जब्त किए।
जब्त किए गए खाद्य पदार्थों का कुल वजन लगभग 4,172 किलोग्राम बताया गया है, जिसकी अनुमानित कीमत करीब ₹8.13 लाख है।
एफडीए के संयुक्त आयुक्त डी.वी. भोगावड़े ने बताया कि यह कार्रवाई राज्यव्यापी ‘सेफ फूड, सेफ ड्रग, सेफ महाराष्ट्र’ अभियान के तहत की गई।
उनके अनुसार निरीक्षण में यह पाया गया कि संबंधित प्रतिष्ठान ने खाद्य सुरक्षा एवं मानक नियमों के अनिवार्य प्रावधानों का कथित रूप से पालन नहीं किया था, जिसके चलते पूरा स्टॉक जब्त किया गया।
विभाग का कहना है कि कारोबारियों को पहले भी कमियों को दूर करने के निर्देश दिए गए थे, लेकिन निर्धारित सुधारात्मक कदम नहीं उठाए गए।
इसी कारण प्रतिष्ठान को बंद करने का नोटिस जारी किया गया है और अगले आदेश तक सभी व्यावसायिक गतिविधियां रोकने के निर्देश दिए गए हैं।
कार्रवाई की प्रक्रिया पर प्रकाश डालते हुए भोगावड़े ने बताया कि एफडीए को प्रतिदिन 25 से 30 शिकायतें प्राप्त होती हैं, जिनमें से कई गुमनाम होती हैं।
उन्होंने कहा कि प्रत्येक शिकायत का गंभीरता से परीक्षण किया जाता है और तथ्यों के सत्यापन के बाद आवश्यक कार्रवाई सुनिश्चित की जाती है।
जब्त किए गए सभी खाद्य नमूनों को वैज्ञानिक परीक्षण के लिए प्रयोगशाला भेज दिया गया है। एफडीए के अनुसार जांच रिपोर्ट प्राप्त होने के बाद उसके निष्कर्षों के आधार पर आगे की कानूनी और नियामकीय कार्रवाई की जाएगी।
