The BJP launched a strong criticism of the Congress on Monday, accusing Rahul Gandhi of using former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s death for “political opportunism” and then leaving for Vietnam to celebrate the New Year while the nation mourned.

BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya claimed on X that Gandhi “politicized and exploited Dr. Singh’s demise for his convenience,” yet displayed “contempt” for the late leader by flying abroad during the mourning period.

Malviya further alleged, “The Gandhis and the Congress have a history of disdain for Sikhs. Let us not forget that Indira Gandhi desecrated the Darbar Sahib.”

In a sharp response, Congress leader Manickam Tagore criticized the BJP’s remarks, calling it an example of “diversionary politics.”

“When will the Sanghis stop this ‘take diversion’ politics?” Tagore asked in a post on X. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of denying Dr. Singh a cremation spot on the Yamuna banks and alleged that BJP ministers “cornered” the former PM’s family, labeling it “shameful.”

Defending Gandhi, Tagore questioned Malviya’s concern over Gandhi’s private travel plans and added, “Get well in the New Year.”
