The former Rajasthan Opposition leader has objected to the song being used with gangster characters, while Rajasthan artist Rapperiya Baalam has separately alleged that the track was used without his permission.

BJP leader Rajendra Rathore has urged the CBFC to remove Shoorveer from Mirzapur: The Movie, saying the Maharana Pratap tribute was used alongside gangster scenes.
A controversy has erupted around Mirzapur: The Movie after former Rajasthan Assembly Leader of Opposition and seven-time BJP MLA Rajendra Rathore approached the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) over the use of the song Shoorveer in the film.
Rathore has objected to the manner in which the song appears in the movie, arguing that a composition created in honour of Maharana Pratap should not have been placed alongside characters associated with crime and gangster culture.
In his communication to the CBFC on Wednesday, Rathore maintained that Shoorveer was created as an expression of admiration for Maharana Pratap’s courage, dignity and sacrifice.
According to him, its association with criminal characters in the film has triggered resentment and disappointment among sections of society.
The BJP leader has asked the certification board to consider taking the song out of the film.
He has also urged filmmakers to exercise greater care when incorporating material connected with prominent historical personalities, particularly where such usage could offend public sentiment.
Rathore argued that creative freedom should not become a reason to portray revered figures, national heroes or India’s cultural legacy in a manner that could be perceived as insulting or disrespectful.
The objection from Rathore comes amid a separate dispute over the song’s ownership and use.
Rajasthan-based musician Rapperiya Baalam, who created Shoorveer as a tribute to Maharana Pratap, has accused the film’s makers of using his work without obtaining his consent or providing him with credit.
Baalam voiced his concerns through social media, saying he was distressed to discover that his song had appeared in the film without his permission.
He questioned how the production team obtained the authority to use the composition.
In an Instagram video, the artist said the song was specifically dedicated to Maharana Pratap and expressed disapproval over its placement in sequences involving the film’s villains.
He suggested that had the filmmakers contacted him beforehand, he would have been willing to discuss creative possibilities for incorporating the track.
Instead, Baalam said, the song was used without his approval, al and he remains unaware of who allegedly granted the necessary rights.
He also questioned whether the party that provided those rights actually possessed the copyright required to authorise its use.
The two objections centre on different aspects of the song’s appearance in the film.
While Rathore has raised concerns about its context and portrayal alongside gangster characters, Baalam’s complaint focuses on permission, attribution and copyright.
Mirzapur: The Movie is directed by Gurmeet Singh and backed by producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the Excel Entertainment banner.
The film features Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu,u and Rasika Dugal in key roles and was released on September 4.

राजेंद्र राठौड़ ने ‘मिर्जापुर: द मूवी’ में ‘शूरवीर’ गीत के इस्तेमाल पर CBFC से आपत्ति जताई है। गीत महाराणा प्रताप को समर्पित है और इसे हटाने की मांग की गई है।
‘मिर्जापुर: द मूवी’ में शामिल गीत शूरवीर को लेकर विवाद खड़ा हो गया है।
राजस्थान विधानसभा के पूर्व नेता प्रतिपक्ष और सात बार भाजपा विधायक रह चुके राजेंद्र राठौड़ ने केंद्रीय फिल्म प्रमाणन बोर्ड (CBFC) को पत्र भेजकर फिल्म में इस गीत के इस्तेमाल पर आपत्ति दर्ज कराई है।
राठौड़ की आपत्ति गीत के फिल्म में इस्तेमाल किए गए संदर्भ को लेकर है।
उनका कहना है कि महाराणा प्रताप के शौर्य और बलिदान को समर्पित रचना को ऐसे दृश्यों के साथ प्रस्तुत करना उचित नहीं है, जिनमें गैंगस्टर और आपराधिक पृष्ठभूमि वाले किरदार दिखाई देते हैं।
बुधवार को भेजे गए पत्र में राठौड़ ने कहा कि शूरवीर मूल रूप से महाराणा प्रताप की वीरता, स्वाभिमान और त्याग को सम्मान देने के उद्देश्य से तैयार किया गया था।
उनके अनुसार, फिल्म में इसे अपराध से जुड़े पात्रों के साथ जोड़ने से समाज के विभिन्न वर्गों में असंतोष और नाराजगी पैदा हुई है।
भाजपा नेता ने CBFC से फिल्म से गीत को हटाने का अनुरोध किया है। साथ ही उन्होंने भविष्य में ऐतिहासिक व्यक्तित्वों से जुड़े गीतों, प्रतीकों और संदर्भों को फिल्मों में शामिल करते समय संवेदनशीलता बरतने की अपील की।
राठौड़ का कहना है कि अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता को ऐतिहासिक महापुरुषों, राष्ट्रीय नायकों या देश की समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक विरासत के प्रति कथित अनादर को उचित ठहराने के आधार के रूप में इस्तेमाल नहीं किया जाना चाहिए।
इस मामले में एक दूसरा विवाद भी सामने आया है, जो गीत के अधिकार और अनुमति से संबंधित है।
राजस्थान के कलाकार रैपरिया बालम ने दावा किया है कि महाराणा प्रताप को समर्पित उनके गीत शूरवीर को फिल्म में उनकी अनुमति के बिना इस्तेमाल किया गया।
कलाकार ने सोशल मीडिया के जरिए इस पर अपनी नाराजगी जाहिर की।
उन्होंने कहा कि फिल्म में अपने गीत को सुनकर उन्हें खुशी होने के बजाय दुख हुआ, क्योंकि उनके अनुसार गीत के इस्तेमाल से पहले उनसे संपर्क नहीं किया गया था और न ही उनकी अनुमति ली गई।
इंस्टाग्राम पर जारी एक वीडियो में बालम ने सवाल उठाया कि उनकी रचना को फिल्म में इस्तेमाल करने का अधिकार आखिर किसने दिया।
उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि यह गीत महाराणा प्रताप को समर्पित है और फिल्म में इसे खलनायक या गैंगस्टर किरदारों को उभारने वाले संदर्भ में इस्तेमाल करना उचित है या नहीं, इस पर सवाल उठना स्वाभाविक है।
बालम ने यह भी कहा कि यदि फिल्म की टीम पहले उनसे संपर्क करती और गीत इस्तेमाल करने की इच्छा बताती, तो वह कई रचनात्मक सुझाव देने के लिए तैयार थे।
उनके मुताबिक, बातचीत के जरिए गीत के उपयोग के कई बेहतर तरीके निकाले जा सकते थे।
इसके बजाय, कलाकार का आरोप है कि उनकी अनुमति के बिना गीत का इस्तेमाल कर लिया गया। उन्होंने यह स्पष्ट नहीं होने पर भी सवाल उठाया कि फिल्म में इसे शामिल करने के लिए अधिकार किससे हासिल किए गए।
साथ ही उन्होंने कथित अधिकार देने वाले पक्ष से यह जांचने की मांग की कि उसके पास वास्तव में गीत का कॉपीराइट था या नहीं।
इस तरह शूरवीर को लेकर सामने आए दोनों विवादों का स्वरूप अलग है।
राजेंद्र राठौड़ ने गीत के संदर्भ और उसके फिल्मांकन में इस्तेमाल पर सवाल उठाया है, जबकि रैपरिया बालम का आरोप अनुमति, क्रेडिट और कॉपीराइट से जुड़ा है।
‘मिर्जापुर: द मूवी’ का निर्देशन गुरमीत सिंह ने किया है। फिल्म का निर्माण फरहान अख्तर और रितेश सिधवानी ने एक्सेल एंटरटेनमेंट के बैनर तले किया है।
फिल्म में पंकज त्रिपाठी, अली फजल, दिव्येंदु और रसिका दुग्गल प्रमुख भूमिकाओं में हैं। फिल्म 4 सितंबर को रिलीज हुई थी।
