Indian-origin philanthropists Vikas and Anuradha Sinha have pledged $20 million to UNT to establish a college dedicated to AI, advanced analytics, research and innovation.
A major philanthropic investment by Indian-origin couple Vikas and Anuradha Sinha is set to reshape the artificial intelligence landscape at the University of North Texas (UNT).
The couple has committed $20 million to the university to create a new academic college dedicated to artificial intelligence and advanced analytics.
The initiative comes with a deeply personal connection for Vikas Sinha, who returned to UNT years after beginning his academic career to complete his doctoral studies.
He received his PhD from the university in 2023 and has remained closely associated with UNT since then.
The new institution will carry the name Anuradha and Vikas Sinha College of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics.
Alongside the college itself, the donation will create six endowed funds intended to provide lasting financial support for areas including scholarships, academic leadership, faculty professorships, entrepreneurship, research and emerging technologies.
The scale of the contribution is significant, but the Sinhas say their motivation lies elsewhere.
Their philanthropic approach is shaped by their own experience of using education as a pathway to opportunity, and they now want to widen that pathway for other students.
Vikas has said that the couple wants young people to have access to the kind of educational possibilities that transformed their own lives.
That objective has particular meaning for students who travel to the United States from abroad in pursuit of better academic and professional prospects.
Their story itself began thousands of miles from Texas.
Both Vikas and Anuradha studied civil engineering at Sri Venkateswara University in India, earning their bachelor’s degrees before continuing their education in the United States.
Their American academic journey took them to Florida Atlantic University, where they completed graduate programmes.
Vikas later pursued predictive analytics at Northwestern University, adding another area of expertise before eventually making his way back to UNT.
That return proved important not only academically but also professionally and institutionally. After completing his doctorate in 2023,
Vikas continued contributing to the university community. Since that year, he has served on the UNT College of Information Leadership Board.
Outside academia, he is a senior technology executive, serving as vice president of Broadcom’s Mainframe Software Division.
The couple’s latest contribution is also the newest chapter in a series of major investments in UNT.
Their support first expanded considerably in 2024, when they contributed more than $3 million toward the creation of the Anuradha and Vikas Sinha Department of Data Science.
That earlier contribution was accompanied by endowments aimed at strengthening scholarships, faculty positions, research,h and special initiatives.
The following year, the couple added another $2.15 million, helping establish the Sinha Innovation Lab for Data Science.
The new $20 million commitment substantially broadens that earlier focus. This time, the Sinhas are backing an institution designed to bring multiple technology disciplines under one academic umbrella.
The planned college will cover a wide spectrum, including AI, intelligent systems, data analytics, cybersecurity, data science, health informatics, information science and learning technologies.
Its academic structure will be divided into two principal areas.
One division will concentrate on the development and practical implementation of intelligent technologies.
The other will explore the relationship between information, intelligent systems, people and institutions.
Research will also be a central component of the new structure.
The Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Institute will serve as a bridge between research and teaching across UNT, while also creating scope for partnerships between university researchers and industry.
The vision behind the college goes beyond producing graduates who can operate existing AI applications.
The Sinhas want students to acquire the intellectual and practical ability to participate in the creation, evaluation, oversight, and responsible deployment of the technology.
For Vikas, the urgency is closely linked to the rapid evolution of the workplace. As AI becomes increasingly influential across industries, universities face growing pressure to prepare students not merely for today’s jobs, but for professions that are still taking shape.
Yet the couple’s philanthropic philosophy extends beyond technology.
Their emphasis on education is rooted in the belief that a degree can have consequences that stretch far beyond the individual who earns it.
Vikas has pointed to UNT’s significant population of first-generation college students as evidence of that wider impact.
When a student becomes the first member of a family to enter higher education, he believes the resulting change can continue through subsequent generations.
That belief has become a recurring theme in the Sinhas’ support for UNT: education can alter the trajectory of an entire family, not simply improve the prospects of one person.
UNT President Harrison Keller welcomed the contribution, saying the new investment would generate fresh opportunities for both students and faculty while strengthening the university’s efforts in artificial intelligence, research and innovation.
With close to 44,000 students studying across its Denton and Frisco campuses, UNT is preparing to add another major dimension to its technology-focused academic work.
A formal event celebrating the new college’s naming is planned for later this year, according to a university statement cited by Reuters.

विकास और अनुराधा की अपनी शैक्षणिक यात्रा भारत से शुरू हुई थी। दोनों ने श्री वेंकटेश्वर विश्वविद्यालय से सिविल इंजीनियरिंग में स्नातक किया।
उच्च शिक्षा के अगले चरण के लिए वे अमेरिका पहुंचे और वहां फ्लोरिडा अटलांटिक यूनिवर्सिटी से स्नातकोत्तर डिग्रियां हासिल कीं।
इसके बाद विकास ने नॉर्थवेस्टर्न यूनिवर्सिटी में प्रेडिक्टिव एनालिटिक्स का अध्ययन किया। आगे चलकर उनका शैक्षणिक सफर उन्हें दोबारा UNT ले आया, जहां उन्होंने 2023 में डॉक्टरेट की डिग्री पूरी की।
तकनीकी क्षेत्र में भी विकास सिन्हा ने महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारी संभाली है।
वह ब्रॉडकॉम के मेनफ्रेम सॉफ्टवेयर डिविजन में उपाध्यक्ष के पद पर कार्यरत हैं। शिक्षा और तकनीक, दोनों क्षेत्रों से उनके जुड़ाव ने UNT के साथ उनकी भागीदारी को भी लगातार मजबूत किया है।
विश्वविद्यालय के प्रति सिन्हा दंपति का आर्थिक सहयोग अचानक शुरू नहीं हुआ। 2024 में उन्होंने 30 लाख डॉलर से अधिक की राशि देकर अनुराधा एंड विकास सिन्हा डिपार्टमेंट ऑफ डेटा साइंस की स्थापना में सहयोग किया था।
उस समय किए गए योगदान के माध्यम से छात्रवृत्ति, प्रोफेसरशिप, शोध और विशेष पहलों के लिए भी एंडोमेंट तैयार किए गए थे। इसके बाद 2025 में दंपति ने 21.5 लाख डॉलर और दिए, जिससे सिन्हा इनोवेशन लैब फॉर डेटा साइंस की स्थापना हुई।
इस लैब का उद्देश्य छात्रों को व्यावहारिक अध्ययन और शोध से जोड़ना है।
अब नया योगदान उस सहयोग को एक व्यापक तकनीकी दृष्टि देता है। प्रस्तावित कॉलेज में केवल AI ही नहीं, बल्कि उससे जुड़े कई महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्रों को एक साथ विकसित किया जाएगा।
इनमें इंटेलिजेंट सिस्टम, डेटा एनालिटिक्स, साइबर सुरक्षा, डेटा साइंस, हेल्थ इंफॉर्मेटिक्स, इन्फॉर्मेशन साइंस और लर्निंग टेक्नोलॉजी शामिल हैं।
कॉलेज की शैक्षणिक गतिविधियों को दो प्रमुख हिस्सों में बांटने की योजना है। एक हिस्सा बुद्धिमान तकनीकी प्रणालियों को विकसित करने और उन्हें इस्तेमाल में लाने पर केंद्रित होगा।

शोध और उद्योग जगत से साझेदारी को भी इस योजना में महत्वपूर्ण स्थान दिया गया है। एप्लाइड आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस एंड डेटा साइंस इंस्टीट्यूट के माध्यम से UNT के विभिन्न हिस्सों में हो रहे शोध और शिक्षण प्रयासों को जोड़ा जाएगा।
इसके साथ उद्योगों के साथ सहयोग के नए अवसर विकसित करने का भी लक्ष्य है।
सिन्हा दंपति की योजना ऐसे विद्यार्थियों को तैयार करने की है जो केवल AI आधारित तकनीकों का इस्तेमाल करना न जानें, बल्कि उनके निर्माण और मूल्यांकन में भी सक्षम हों।
इसके साथ तकनीक के प्रभावों को समझने, उस पर सवाल उठाने, उचित निगरानी रखने और जिम्मेदारी के साथ उसे लागू करने की क्षमता विकसित करने पर जोर रहेगा।
AI पर केंद्रित इस पहल के पीछे तेजी से बदलता रोजगार बाजार भी एक अहम कारण है। विकास सिन्हा के अनुसार, आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस मौजूदा पीढ़ी को सबसे अधिक प्रभावित करने वाली तकनीकों में शामिल हो सकती है।
ऐसे में विश्वविद्यालयों की भूमिका छात्रों को भविष्य की बदलती आवश्यकताओं के लिए तैयार करने में और महत्वपूर्ण हो जाती है।

इसी पीढ़ीगत बदलाव को सिन्हा दंपति अपनी परोपकारी गतिविधियों का महत्वपूर्ण उद्देश्य मानते हैं।
उनके लिए शिक्षा में निवेश का अर्थ केवल किसी एक छात्र की मदद करना नहीं, बल्कि परिवारों के भविष्य की दिशा बदलने की संभावना पैदा करना है।

UNT के डेंटन और फ्रिस्को परिसरों में लगभग 44,000 विद्यार्थी अध्ययन करते हैं।
