Prayagraj: The rising water level of the Ganga has begun disrupting normal life in the low-lying areas of Rajapur, forcing families living along the riverfront to leave their homes as floodwater entered residential premises.
By Monday evening, around 7 pm, at least 15 residents had reached the flood relief camp established at Rishikul Secondary School after water entered their houses.
The situation worsened overnight, with the number of people seeking refuge at the camp rising to nearly 60 by Tuesday morning.
Several of the displaced families have arrived with young children, leaving behind homes and belongings as they moved to safer ground.
For those staying at the relief camp, arrangements have been made for food, drinking water and refreshments.
The shelter has provided some immediate relief from the rising water, but anxiety over their homes and possessions continues to weigh heavily on the affected families.
‘We Had No Time to Think’
For residents of Gangnagar, the sudden advance of the floodwater has been an unsettling experience.
Ranno Devi, a resident of the area, said the entire family became frightened as they watched the water steadily rise.
She said the family had barely been able to sleep for the past three days because of the constant fear of the water entering their home.
On Monday, the water finally entered the house at around 6 pm. With little choice left, the family shifted some belongings to a neighbour’s house and hurried to the relief camp with the children.
Another resident, Usha Devi, said leaving home became unavoidable once the water level began rising rapidly.
She managed to get out with the children after placing some household belongings at another person’s house. However, part of their possessions had to be left behind.
The uncertainty over what will remain intact after the flood recedes has added to the family’s distress.
Residents say that while the relief camp offers temporary safety, they remain worried about the condition of their houses and the belongings left behind.
Annual Flooding Leaves Residents Seeking a Permanent Solution
For many families in Rajapur’s vulnerable pockets, flooding is not an occasional crisis but a recurring problem.
Uma Devi, who lives in Gangnagar’s Gali Number 21, said residents have become accustomed to facing the same ordeal every year.
According to her, families return home only after the water recedes, clean and repair their houses, and attempt to resume normal life.
But before long, the threat of another flood begins to loom over the neighbourhood.
Residents say repeated displacement, damage to household goods and the disruption of daily life make temporary relief measures insufficient.
They have urged the authorities to look beyond emergency arrangements and work towards a permanent solution to recurring flooding in the riverbank settlements of Rajapur.
For the families currently sheltered at Rishikul Secondary School, the immediate priority is safety.
But once the water recedes, another challenge awaits them — returning home, assessing the damage and rebuilding their lives once again.

Relief Camps Kept Operational as Administration Steps Up Flood Preparedness; NDRF Team Monitoring Riverbank Areas
With the Ganga water level continuing to be a concern in the riverbank areas, Prayagraj District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma inspected the Salori Kachhar area on Wednesday to assess the flood situation and review the preparedness of the local administration.
During the inspection, the District Magistrate directed officials of all concerned departments to ensure that residents do not face difficulties because of the rising water level.
He said the administration was closely monitoring the situation and taking precautionary measures in vulnerable areas.
According to the district administration, the river is currently flowing below the danger mark.
However, an alert has been issued in areas situated along the riverbank in view of the possibility of a further rise in the water level.
NDRF Keeping Watch on Vulnerable Areas
The District Magistrate said the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has been deployed and is continuously moving through the affected and vulnerable areas to closely monitor the situation.
He also reviewed the functioning of flood relief arrangements and said that all designated relief camps have been made operational.
Officials have been instructed to remain prepared to shift residents to safer locations if the water level rises further.
Appealing to people living in vulnerable riverbank settlements, Verma urged them not to take unnecessary risks.
He said residents should move to designated flood relief camps if the water begins rising significantly in their neighbourhoods.
Focus on Sanitation and Disease Prevention
The administration has also begun preparations to deal with the health and sanitation challenges that may emerge after floodwater enters residential areas.
The District Magistrate directed the Nagar Nigam to maintain cleanliness in urban areas, while the Panchayati Raj Department has been asked to undertake sanitation-related work in rural areas.
Officials were also instructed to arrange spraying of medicines in the affected areas as a preventive measure against the spread of infections and other water-related diseases.
DM Orders Adequate Facilities at Relief Centres
During the inspection, the District Magistrate stressed that relief centres must provide more than just temporary shelter.
He directed officials to ensure the availability of quality food, safe drinking water, adequate lighting, medicines and other essential facilities for displaced residents.
The instructions are aimed at ensuring that families forced to leave their homes do not face additional hardship while staying at relief centres.
Officials and employees associated with flood management, relief operations and other emergency arrangements were present during the District Magistrate’s inspection.
The administration has meanwhile maintained heightened vigilance in the riverbank areas, with officials and response teams continuing to monitor the situation as the Ganga water level remains under watch.

लगातार बढ़ रहे पानी के कारण कई घरों में बाढ़ का पानी प्रवेश कर गया, जिसके बाद प्रभावित परिवारों को अपना घर छोड़कर सुरक्षित स्थानों की ओर जाना पड़ा।
सोमवार शाम करीब सात बजे तक 15 लोग राजापुर स्थित ऋषिकुल माध्यमिक विद्यालय में बनाए गए बाढ़ राहत शिविर में पहुंच चुके थे।
रातभर स्थिति बिगड़ने के बाद मंगलवार सुबह तक शिविर में शरण लेने वाले लोगों की संख्या बढ़कर करीब 60 हो गई। राहत शिविर में पहुंचे परिवारों में छोटे बच्चे भी शामिल हैं।
प्रशासन और राहत व्यवस्था से जुड़े लोगों की ओर से शिविर में रहने वाले प्रभावित परिवारों के लिए भोजन, पेयजल और नाश्ते की व्यवस्था की गई है।
सुरक्षित स्थान पर पहुंचने के बाद लोगों ने कुछ राहत की सांस ली है, लेकिन पीछे छूटे घर, घरेलू सामान और पानी से होने वाले नुकसान की चिंता अब भी उन्हें परेशान कर रही है।
तीन दिन से नींद नहीं, घर में पानी घुसते ही बच्चों को लेकर भागे
गंगानगर निवासी गुलाब कली ने बताया कि गंगा का पानी लगातार बढ़ता देखकर परिवार में डर का माहौल बन गया था।
पानी जैसे-जैसे आगे बढ़ रहा था, परिवार की चिंता भी बढ़ती जा रही थी। उन्होंने कहा कि पिछले तीन दिनों से परिवार के लोग ठीक से सो नहीं पाए हैं।
सोमवार शाम करीब छह बजे जब पानी घर के भीतर पहुंच गया तो परिवार के सामने वहां रुकने का कोई विकल्प नहीं बचा।
उन्होंने बताया कि घर का कुछ सामान दूसरे के घर में सुरक्षित रखने के बाद बच्चों को साथ लेकर परिवार राहत शिविर की ओर निकल गया।
शिविर में पहुंचीं उषा देवी की कहानी भी कुछ ऐसी ही है। उन्होंने बताया कि पानी बढ़ने के बाद घर से निकलना मजबूरी बन गया था।
बच्चों को लेकर किसी तरह बाहर निकलने की व्यवस्था की गई। कुछ सामान दूसरे घर में रख दिया गया, जबकि बाकी सामान घर में ही छूट गया।
अब उन्हें सबसे ज्यादा चिंता इस बात की है कि पानी उतरने तक घर में छोड़ा गया सामान किस हालत में रहेगा। राहत शिविर में सुरक्षा तो मिल गई है, लेकिन घर और सामान को लेकर चिंता लगातार बनी हुई है।
हर साल बाढ़ की मार, पानी उतरने के बाद फिर शुरू होती है जिंदगी
राजापुर के गंगानगर की 21 नंबर गली में रहने वाली उमा देवी ने कहा कि इलाके के लोगों के लिए बाढ़ की समस्या नई नहीं है।
हर साल गंगा का जलस्तर बढ़ने के साथ तटीय बस्तियों में रहने वाले परिवारों को इसी तरह की परेशानी का सामना करना पड़ता है।
उन्होंने बताया कि पानी कम होने के बाद लोग अपने घरों में लौटते हैं। इसके बाद घरों की सफाई और मरम्मत में समय और पैसा खर्च होता है।
परिवार धीरे-धीरे सामान्य जीवन की ओर लौटते हैं, लेकिन कुछ समय बीतने के बाद फिर बाढ़ का खतरा सामने आ जाता है।
उमा देवी का कहना है कि बार-बार होने वाली इस समस्या का समाधान केवल राहत शिविर और अस्थायी इंतजामों से नहीं हो सकता।
सरकार को ऐसे इलाकों में बाढ़ से बचाव के लिए स्थायी व्यवस्था और दीर्घकालिक समाधान पर काम करना चाहिए।
फिलहाल राहत शिविर में पहुंचे परिवारों के लिए सबसे बड़ी प्राथमिकता सुरक्षित रहना है।
हालांकि, पानी उतरने के बाद उन्हें फिर उन्हीं घरों में लौटना होगा, जहां बाढ़ ने कितना नुकसान किया है, इसका अंदाजा फिलहाल लगाना भी मुश्किल है।

राहत शिविर पूरी तरह सक्रिय, नदी किनारे के इलाकों में अलर्ट; एनडीआरएफ की टीम लगातार कर रही निगरानी
गंगा के बढ़ते जलस्तर को देखते हुए प्रयागराज के जिलाधिकारी मनीष कुमार वर्मा ने बुधवार को सलोरी कछार क्षेत्र का निरीक्षण कर बाढ़ की स्थिति और प्रशासनिक तैयारियों का जायजा लिया।
उन्होंने संबंधित विभागों के अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिया कि बाढ़ की स्थिति में आम लोगों को किसी भी तरह की परेशानी न होने पाए और संवेदनशील इलाकों में राहत एवं बचाव की व्यवस्थाएं पूरी तरह दुरुस्त रखी जाएं।
निरीक्षण के दौरान जिलाधिकारी ने कहा कि फिलहाल नदी का जलस्तर खतरे के निशान से नीचे है, लेकिन संभावित खतरे को देखते हुए नदी के किनारे बसे इलाकों में अलर्ट जारी किया गया है।
प्रशासन की ओर से स्थिति पर लगातार नजर रखी जा रही है और जरूरत पड़ने पर प्रभावित लोगों को सुरक्षित स्थानों पर पहुंचाने की तैयारी की गई है।
एनडीआरएफ की टीम लगातार कर रही निगरानी
जिलाधिकारी ने बताया कि एनडीआरएफ की टीम लगातार संवेदनशील और नदी किनारे के क्षेत्रों का भ्रमण कर रही है।
टीम की ओर से जलस्तर और संभावित बाढ़ की स्थिति पर नजर रखी जा रही है, ताकि आवश्यकता पड़ने पर राहत एवं बचाव कार्य तत्काल शुरू किया जा सके।
उन्होंने बताया कि बाढ़ की आशंका वाले क्षेत्रों में बनाए गए सभी राहत शिविरों को सक्रिय कर दिया गया है।
अधिकारियों को निर्देशित किया गया है कि यदि किसी क्षेत्र में पानी तेजी से बढ़ता है तो वहां रहने वाले लोगों को बिना देरी किए राहत शिविरों में स्थानांतरित किया जाए।
जिलाधिकारी ने नदी के किनारे और निचले इलाकों में रहने वाले लोगों से भी सावधानी बरतने की अपील की।
उन्होंने कहा कि यदि बाढ़ का पानी बढ़ने लगे तो लोग जोखिम उठाने के बजाय प्रशासन द्वारा बनाए गए बाढ़ राहत शिविरों में चले जाएं।
शहरी और ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में सफाई पर जोर
बाढ़ की स्थिति में जलभराव के बाद गंदगी और संक्रमण की आशंका को देखते हुए जिलाधिकारी ने साफ-सफाई की व्यवस्था को प्राथमिकता देने के निर्देश दिए हैं।
नगर क्षेत्र में सफाई व्यवस्था की जिम्मेदारी नगर निगम को सौंपी गई है, जबकि ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में पंचायतीराज विभाग को साफ-सफाई सुनिश्चित करने के निर्देश दिए गए हैं।
इसके साथ ही प्रभावित और संवेदनशील क्षेत्रों में दवाओं के छिड़काव की व्यवस्था करने को भी कहा गया है, ताकि जलभराव के बाद होने वाली बीमारियों और संक्रमण के खतरे को कम किया जा सके।
राहत शिविरों में भोजन, पानी और रोशनी की व्यवस्था सुनिश्चित करने के निर्देश
जिलाधिकारी ने बाढ़ राहत केंद्रों की व्यवस्थाओं की समीक्षा करते हुए अधिकारियों से कहा कि शिविरों में पहुंचने वाले लोगों को किसी तरह की असुविधा नहीं होनी चाहिए।
उन्होंने गुणवत्तापूर्ण भोजन, स्वच्छ पेयजल, पर्याप्त प्रकाश व्यवस्था, दवाएं और अन्य जरूरी सुविधाएं हर समय उपलब्ध रखने के निर्देश दिए।
उन्होंने अधिकारियों को यह भी सुनिश्चित करने को कहा कि राहत शिविरों में पहुंचने वाले परिवारों, विशेषकर बच्चों और अन्य जरूरतमंद लोगों को आवश्यक सुविधाएं समय पर मिलें।
निरीक्षण के दौरान बाढ़ प्रबंधन, राहत एवं बचाव कार्यों से जुड़े अधिकारी और कर्मचारी मौजूद रहे। जिला प्रशासन की ओर से नदी के किनारे के क्षेत्रों में सतर्कता बढ़ा दी गई है और संबंधित टीमें लगातार स्थिति पर नजर बनाए हुए हैं।
