RSS Breaks Silence on Ayodhya Ram Temple Donation Theft, Demands Transparency and Strict Action
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday issued its first official statement since allegations of theft from the donation boxes at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya surfaced.
The organisation said the incident had deeply shaken the sentiments of devotees and stressed that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust must treat the matter with utmost seriousness.
According to the RSS, it is natural for the entire Hindu community, including the Sangh, to expect the Trust to take decisive corrective measures so that the faith of millions of devotees remains intact.
In a statement released by RSS Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale, the organisation described the alleged theft as a “highly condemnable” act.
It said the controversy had created confusion and concern among devotees and asserted that this uncertainty should end through transparent action by both the Trust and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to investigate the case.
The statement marks the RSS’s first formal response to the controversy surrounding the temple administration after allegations emerged that donations offered to Ram Lalla had been misappropriated.
The issue has already led to significant developments, including the resignation of Champat Rai, General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, amid growing pressure. Investigators have also arrested his former driver during the ongoing probe.
Hosabale said the grand Ram Temple stands as a symbol of faith, sacrifice, and devotion built through the efforts of countless Ram devotees over several generations.
He remarked that reports of theft from the temple’s donation collection had caused widespread disappointment, grief, and anger among devotees across the country.
Referring to the ongoing investigation, the RSS said the Uttar Pradesh government had formed a Special Investigation Team following a request from the Trust.
It noted that legal proceedings have already begun based on the SIT’s findings and insisted that anyone found responsible should face the strictest legal consequences without exception.
The organisation also expressed confidence that the Trust would restore public trust by strengthening financial oversight, introducing transparent administrative systems and ensuring that the temple’s functioning reflects honesty, sanctity and genuine religious values.
Appealing for restraint, the RSS urged members of Hindu society not to allow anti-Hindu or anti-national elements to exploit the controversy to damage the reputation of the temple, the faith of devotees, or the wider Hindu community.
So far, eight people have been arrested in connection with the alleged donation theft. The accused have been identified as Avinash Shukla, Lavkush Mishra, Anukalp Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ramashankar Mishra, Ram Shankar Yadav alias Tinnu Yadav, and Subhash Srivastava.
Investigators said Tinnu Yadav had worked as Champat Rai’s driver, while retired bank employee Subhash Srivastava supervised donation counting operations.
The remaining accused were involved in counting offerings received at the temple.
Following the registration of an FIR on June 25 and the subsequent arrests, Champat Rai and Trust member Anil Mishra submitted their resignation letters to the Trust.
Officials stated that both were closely associated with the temple’s administration and were familiar with the arrested individuals.
The Trust had earlier indicated that a decision on their resignations would be taken at its next meeting.
The controversy carries particular significance because of the RSS’s longstanding association with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
For decades, the Sangh and its affiliated organisations played a central role in the campaign that ultimately led to the construction of the Ram Temple after years of legal, political and social efforts.
Even after the temple’s inauguration, the Trust has generally been viewed as functioning under the broad ideological influence of leaders associated with the Sangh Parivar.
Consequently, allegations of financial irregularities have not only affected the image of the Trust but have also reflected on the RSS due to this close historical association.
Against this backdrop, Friday’s statement is being seen as an effort by the RSS to clearly distance itself from alleged administrative failures while simultaneously demanding accountability, transparent governance and institutional reforms to protect the credibility of one of Hinduism’s most revered places of worship.

राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ (आरएसएस) ने अयोध्या स्थित राम मंदिर के दान पात्रों से कथित धनराशि की चोरी के आरोप सामने आने के बाद शुक्रवार को पहली बार आधिकारिक प्रतिक्रिया दी।
संघ ने कहा कि इस घटना ने करोड़ों श्रद्धालुओं की भावनाओं को गहरा आघात पहुंचाया है और श्री राम जन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र ट्रस्ट को इस पूरे मामले को अत्यंत गंभीरता से लेते हुए प्रभावी सुधारात्मक कदम उठाने चाहिए, ताकि देशभर के राम भक्तों का विश्वास अक्षुण्ण बना रहे।
आरएसएस के सरकार्यवाह दत्तात्रेय होसबाले द्वारा जारी बयान में कथित चोरी की घटना को “अत्यंत निंदनीय” बताया गया। उन्होंने कहा कि इस विवाद के कारण श्रद्धालुओं के बीच असमंजस और चिंता का वातावरण बन गया है।
संघ का मानना है कि ट्रस्ट और मामले की जांच कर रही विशेष जांच टीम (एसआईटी) को पारदर्शी और प्रभावी कार्रवाई के माध्यम से इस अनिश्चितता का शीघ्र अंत करना चाहिए।
यह बयान इसलिए भी महत्वपूर्ण माना जा रहा है क्योंकि रामलला को चढ़ाए गए दान में कथित गड़बड़ी के आरोप सामने आने के बाद यह आरएसएस की पहली औपचारिक प्रतिक्रिया है।
इस विवाद के चलते श्री राम जन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र ट्रस्ट के महासचिव चंपत राय ने बढ़ते दबाव के बीच अपने पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया है। वहीं जांच एजेंसियों ने इस मामले में उनके पूर्व चालक को भी गिरफ्तार किया है।
होसबाले ने कहा कि भव्य राम मंदिर असंख्य राम भक्तों के वर्षों के त्याग, संघर्ष और आस्था का प्रतीक है। ऐसे पवित्र स्थल पर दान राशि से जुड़ी कथित चोरी की घटना ने देशभर के श्रद्धालुओं के मन में गहरा दुख, निराशा और आक्रोश पैदा किया है।
संघ ने कहा कि उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने ट्रस्ट के अनुरोध पर इस मामले की जांच के लिए विशेष जांच दल का गठन किया है और उसकी सिफारिशों के आधार पर कानूनी प्रक्रिया भी शुरू कर दी गई है। आरएसएस ने स्पष्ट किया कि जांच में जो भी व्यक्ति दोषी पाया जाए, उसके खिलाफ कानून के तहत कठोरतम कार्रवाई की जानी चाहिए।
बयान में यह विश्वास भी जताया गया कि ट्रस्ट मजबूत वित्तीय प्रबंधन, पूर्ण पारदर्शिता वाली प्रशासनिक व्यवस्था और पवित्रता, मर्यादा तथा वास्तविक धार्मिक मूल्यों पर आधारित कार्यप्रणाली अपनाकर श्रद्धालुओं का भरोसा दोबारा स्थापित करेगा।
संघ ने समाज से संयम बनाए रखने की भी अपील की। उसने कहा कि किसी भी स्थिति में हिंदू समाज को ऐसे तत्वों को मौका नहीं देना चाहिए जो इस विवाद का उपयोग हिंदू समाज, राम मंदिर या धार्मिक आस्था को बदनाम करने के लिए करना चाहते हों।
अब तक इस मामले में अविनाश शुक्ला, लवकुश मिश्रा, अनुकल्प मिश्रा, मनीष कुमार यादव, करुणेश पांडेय, रामाशंकर मिश्रा, राम शंकर यादव उर्फ टिन्नू यादव तथा सुभाष श्रीवास्तव सहित आठ लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया जा चुका है।
जांच के अनुसार टिन्नू यादव पहले चंपत राय के चालक के रूप में कार्यरत था, जबकि सेवानिवृत्त बैंक कर्मचारी सुभाष श्रीवास्तव दान की गणना व्यवस्था की निगरानी करते थे। अन्य आरोपी मंदिर में प्राप्त दान की गिनती की प्रक्रिया से जुड़े हुए थे।
25 जून को प्राथमिकी दर्ज होने और गिरफ्तारियां होने के बाद चंपत राय तथा ट्रस्टी अनिल मिश्रा ने अपने इस्तीफे ट्रस्ट को भेज दिए थे।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार दोनों मंदिर प्रशासन की जिम्मेदारियों से जुड़े प्रमुख व्यक्ति थे और गिरफ्तार किए गए आरोपियों को व्यक्तिगत रूप से जानते थे। ट्रस्ट ने पहले कहा था कि उनके इस्तीफों पर अंतिम निर्णय अगली बैठक में लिया जाएगा।
यह पूरा विवाद इसलिए भी अधिक महत्वपूर्ण माना जा रहा है क्योंकि राम जन्मभूमि आंदोलन से आरएसएस का दशकों पुराना और गहरा संबंध रहा है।
संघ और उससे जुड़े संगठनों ने वर्षों तक चले सामाजिक, राजनीतिक और कानूनी अभियान में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई थी, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप भव्य राम मंदिर का निर्माण संभव हो सका।
मंदिर के उद्घाटन के बाद भी आम धारणा यही रही कि ट्रस्ट का संचालन व्यापक रूप से संघ परिवार से जुड़े विचारों और नेतृत्व के मार्गदर्शन में होता है। ऐसे में मंदिर की वित्तीय व्यवस्था से जुड़े आरोपों ने केवल ट्रस्ट ही नहीं बल्कि आरएसएस की सार्वजनिक छवि पर भी प्रभाव डाला है।
इसी पृष्ठभूमि में संघ का यह बयान प्रशासनिक कमियों से स्वयं को अलग रखते हुए जवाबदेही, पारदर्शी व्यवस्था और संस्थागत सुधारों की मांग के रूप में देखा जा रहा है, ताकि देश के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण धार्मिक स्थलों में से एक पर श्रद्धालुओं का विश्वास पूरी तरह कायम रह सके।
