Russia Says It Shot Down 660 Ukrainian Drones in One of the Largest Aerial Attacks Since the War Began
Russia claimed that it has destroyed 660 Ukrainian drones during a massive overnight assault spanning 12 Russian regions, annexed Crimea, and the Black and Azov Seas.
If confirmed, the operation would rank among the largest drone attacks on Russian territory since Moscow launched its full-scale military offensive against Ukraine in February 2022.
According to Russia’s Defence Ministry, the coordinated drone barrage targeted several regions deep inside the country, including areas south of Moscow.
The latest attack underscores Ukraine’s growing reliance on long-range drone strikes aimed at weakening Russia’s military infrastructure, fuel supplies and industrial capabilities rather than focusing exclusively on the front lines.
Russian officials said one woman was injured during the attacks, while several industrial facilities and electricity infrastructure sustained damage.
Authorities have not reported any fatalities, although emergency services were deployed across multiple regions to assess the impact of the strikes and restore normal operations.
Russian state news agency TASS described the overnight operation as the largest Ukrainian drone attack recorded this year.
The Associated Press reported that it appeared to be one of the biggest aerial offensives carried out on Russian territory since the conflict escalated into a full-scale war more than four years ago.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defence units intercepted 47 drones approaching the capital.
He added that there were no casualties or major damage inside Moscow, crediting the city’s layered air-defence network for preventing the drones from reaching their intended targets.
The most significant reported damage occurred in Novomoskovsk, approximately 200 kilometres south of Moscow in the Tula region.
Regional Governor Dmitry Milyaev said an industrial complex, power infrastructure and a residential building suffered damage during the attack, while one woman sustained injuries.
Russian independent news outlet Astra and several Ukrainian Telegram channels claimed that the Azot chemical plant caught fire after being hit by drones.
The facility is one of Russia’s largest producers of ammonia and nitrogen-based fertilisers and has previously been identified by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as an important supplier to Russia’s explosives industry.
The plant had also reportedly been targeted earlier this month.
However, the Associated Press said it could not independently verify reports of a fire at the chemical plant or damage to a nearby hydroelectric facility. Russian authorities have not officially confirmed either incident.
Military analysts believe the latest operation reflects a broader shift in Ukraine’s strategy.
Instead of concentrating solely on battlefield targets, Kyiv has increasingly focused on disrupting the logistical and industrial network that supports Russia’s military campaign.
Over recent months, Ukrainian forces have repeatedly struck oil refineries, fuel depots, railway lines, ammunition storage facilities, ports and manufacturing plants located hundreds of kilometres from the frontline.
Earlier this week, Ukrainian drone attacks reportedly caused power outages in Sevastopol, located in Russian-controlled Crimea, and damaged several energy installations across central and southern Russia.
Repeated attacks on the same facilities have complicated repair work and disrupted industrial production, increasing pressure on Russia’s supply chain.
Defence experts say Ukraine’s expanding long-range drone campaign is intended to stretch Russia’s air-defence capabilities, interrupt fuel supplies, slow military logistics and force Moscow to divert critical defensive resources away from active combat zones.
The conflict has increasingly evolved into a contest of industrial capacity, logistics and technological innovation.
While Russia continues to launch missile and drone strikes against Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure,
Ukraine has steadily expanded the battlefield deep into Russian territory by targeting facilities that sustain Moscow’s military operations.
The latest wave of drone strikes indicates that Kyiv intends to maintain sustained pressure on Russia’s defence infrastructure and logistical network, even as intense fighting continues along multiple sections of the frontline.

रूस ने गुरुवार को दावा किया कि उसकी वायु रक्षा प्रणाली ने रातभर चले एक बड़े हमले के दौरान यूक्रेन के 660 ड्रोन को मार गिराया या निष्क्रिय कर दिया।
रूसी रक्षा मंत्रालय के अनुसार, ये ड्रोन 12 रूसी क्षेत्रों, क्रीमिया तथा काला सागर और आज़ोव सागर के ऊपर उड़ रहे थे। यदि इस दावे की पुष्टि होती है, तो यह फरवरी 2022 में युद्ध शुरू होने के बाद रूसी क्षेत्र पर हुए सबसे बड़े ड्रोन हमलों में से एक माना जाएगा।
रूसी रक्षा मंत्रालय के अनुसार, यूक्रेन ने दक्षिणी मॉस्को सहित रूस के कई अंदरूनी इलाकों को निशाना बनाया। अधिकारियों का कहना है कि यह हमला दर्शाता है कि यूक्रेन अब लंबी दूरी के ड्रोन का इस्तेमाल कर रूस की सैन्य आपूर्ति, ईंधन भंडारण, औद्योगिक प्रतिष्ठानों और रणनीतिक ढांचे को नुकसान पहुंचाने की रणनीति पर अधिक जोर दे रहा है।

रूसी सरकारी समाचार एजेंसी TASS ने इसे वर्ष 2025 का अब तक का सबसे बड़ा यूक्रेनी ड्रोन हमला बताया। वहीं, एसोसिएटेड प्रेस की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, यह फरवरी 2022 में रूस द्वारा यूक्रेन पर पूर्ण पैमाने पर सैन्य कार्रवाई शुरू किए जाने के बाद रूसी क्षेत्र पर हुए सबसे बड़े हवाई हमलों में से एक प्रतीत होता है।
मॉस्को के मेयर सर्गेई सोब्यानिन ने कहा कि राजधानी की ओर बढ़ रहे 47 ड्रोन को शहर की वायु रक्षा प्रणाली ने रास्ते में ही मार गिराया। उन्होंने बताया कि मॉस्को शहर के भीतर किसी प्रकार की जनहानि या बड़े नुकसान की सूचना नहीं है।
सबसे अधिक नुकसान तुला क्षेत्र के नोवोमोस्कोव्स्क शहर में दर्ज किया गया, जो मॉस्को से लगभग 200 किलोमीटर दक्षिण में स्थित है। क्षेत्रीय गवर्नर दिमित्री मिल्यायेव ने बताया कि एक औद्योगिक परिसर, बिजली से जुड़ा ढांचा और एक निजी मकान क्षतिग्रस्त हुआ, जबकि एक महिला घायल हो गई।
रूसी स्वतंत्र समाचार माध्यम अस्त्रा और कई यूक्रेनी टेलीग्राम चैनलों ने दावा किया कि ड्रोन हमले के बाद अजोट (Azot) रासायनिक संयंत्र में आग लग गई। यह संयंत्र रूस में अमोनिया और नाइट्रोजन आधारित उर्वरकों के सबसे बड़े उत्पादकों में से एक है और यूक्रेनी राष्ट्रपति वोलोदिमिर ज़ेलेंस्की पहले इसे रूस के विस्फोटक उद्योग के लिए महत्वपूर्ण आपूर्तिकर्ता बता चुके हैं। इसी महीने इस संयंत्र को पहले भी निशाना बनाए जाने की खबरें आई थीं।
हालांकि, एसोसिएटेड प्रेस ने कहा कि वह रासायनिक संयंत्र या पास स्थित जलविद्युत परियोजना में आग लगने की खबरों की स्वतंत्र रूप से पुष्टि नहीं कर सका है। रूसी अधिकारियों ने भी इन दावों की आधिकारिक पुष्टि नहीं की है।
सैन्य विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि यह हमला यूक्रेन की बदली हुई रणनीति को दर्शाता है। अब यूक्रेन केवल युद्धक्षेत्र तक सीमित रहने के बजाय रूस की सैन्य रसद व्यवस्था, ईंधन आपूर्ति, रेलवे नेटवर्क, तेल रिफाइनरियों, गोला-बारूद भंडारण केंद्रों, बंदरगाहों और औद्योगिक इकाइयों को लगातार निशाना बना रहा है, ताकि युद्ध संचालन की क्षमता कमजोर की जा सके।
इस सप्ताह की शुरुआत में भी यूक्रेनी ड्रोन हमलों से रूसी नियंत्रण वाले क्रीमिया के सेवास्तोपोल में बिजली आपूर्ति प्रभावित होने तथा मध्य और दक्षिणी रूस के कई ऊर्जा प्रतिष्ठानों को नुकसान पहुंचने की खबरें सामने आई थीं। विशेषज्ञों का कहना है कि एक ही प्रतिष्ठान पर बार-बार हमले होने से मरम्मत कार्य प्रभावित हो रहा है और औद्योगिक उत्पादन में बाधा आ रही है।
रक्षा विश्लेषकों के अनुसार, यूक्रेन का उद्देश्य रूस की वायु रक्षा प्रणाली पर अतिरिक्त दबाव डालना, सैन्य आपूर्ति श्रृंखला को बाधित करना, ईंधन उपलब्धता कम करना और रूस को अपने हवाई सुरक्षा संसाधनों का बड़ा हिस्सा युद्धक्षेत्र से हटाकर घरेलू सुरक्षा में लगाना है।
विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि यह संघर्ष अब केवल मोर्चे पर लड़ाई तक सीमित नहीं रह गया है, बल्कि औद्योगिक क्षमता, तकनीकी श्रेष्ठता और रसद व्यवस्था की प्रतिस्पर्धा में भी बदल चुका है। जहां रूस लगातार यूक्रेन के शहरों और बुनियादी ढांचे पर मिसाइल तथा ड्रोन हमले कर रहा है, वहीं यूक्रेन भी रूस के भीतर स्थित उन ठिकानों को निशाना बना रहा है जो उसकी सैन्य गतिविधियों को समर्थन प्रदान करते हैं।
ताजा हमले संकेत देते हैं कि यूक्रेन आने वाले समय में भी रूस के औद्योगिक और सैन्य आपूर्ति नेटवर्क पर दबाव बनाए रखने की रणनीति जारी रख सकता है, जबकि दोनों देशों के बीच अग्रिम मोर्चों पर संघर्ष लगातार जारी है।
