Russian Missile and Drone Strikes Hit Kyiv as Ukraine Expands Deep Attacks Insi
Kyiv: A fresh wave of Russian missile and drone strikes hit Ukraine’s capital on Sunday, killing at least one person and injuring 13 others, officials said.
The attack came just a day after Ukraine launched one of its largest long-range drone operations, targeting logistics facilities in Russia that Kyiv claims support Moscow’s military production.
Air raid sirens echoed across Kyiv after the Ukrainian Air Force warned residents through Telegram about incoming ballistic missiles.
Moments later, multiple explosions rocked the city, with one blast powerful enough to trigger car alarms across parts of the capital, according to witnesses.
Emergency response authorities said the strikes claimed one life and left 13 people injured. Police reported that six districts of Kyiv came under attack.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko and local officials said an apartment building in the Solomianskyi district suffered damage, while a supermarket caught fire. Another residential property was engulfed in flames in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
Damage was also reported at a shopping and entertainment complex in the Dniprovskyi district, an apartment block in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and a non-residential structure elsewhere in the city.
Beyond the capital, Russian drone attacks also struck the central Dnipropetrovsk region, where regional official Oleksandr Hanzha said one person was killed.
Across the border, authorities in Russia’s Kursk region reported that a Ukrainian strike had killed one civilian near the frontline.
Governor Alexander Khinshtein confirmed the casualty through an official statement.
Russia has maintained an almost daily campaign of missile and drone attacks against Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities since launching its full-scale invasion in 2022.
The latest exchange followed Ukrainian drone operations on Saturday that targeted e-commerce warehouse facilities in Russia’s Moscow and Tambov regions.
Ukrainian authorities said the sites were linked to military supply chains, while Russian officials reported eight deaths and extensive fire damage.
On the Ukrainian side, Russian attacks carried out on Saturday killed five people and wounded nearly 20 others across several southeastern regions.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strikes on logistics centres in Russia were retaliation for repeated attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
In a post on X, he alleged the targeted facilities were being used to store sanctioned components for drone manufacturing and navigation equipment.
Over recent months, Kyiv has stepped up long-range strikes deep inside Russian territory, describing the campaign as a response to years of sustained bombardment.
The operations, often referred to by Ukrainian officials as “long-range sanctions,” have largely focused on Russia’s oil and energy infrastructure and are reported to have disrupted fuel supplies in several regions.
Moscow authorities said more than 370 Ukrainian drones were launched toward the Russian capital overnight. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defence systems intercepted nearly 1,892 drones approaching Moscow between July 11 and July 18, highlighting the growing scale of Ukraine’s long-range drone campaign.
Even as fighting intensified on the battlefield, Ukraine witnessed an unusual wave of domestic political dissent.
Thousands of people gathered in major cities for a third consecutive day on Saturday to protest the removal of Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov following a surprise government reshuffle.
The dismissal of the technology-focused minister, who had been widely associated with efforts to modernise Ukraine’s armed forces, prompted rare public criticism of President Zelensky’s wartime leadership.
The protests coincided with two days of high-level meetings between the President and senior military commanders, fuelling speculation in Ukrainian media about possible changes in the country’s military leadership, including the future of Army Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
During his brief tenure, Fedorov had reportedly pushed for greater digital transformation and technological modernisation of the armed forces, an agenda that frequently placed him at odds with General Syrskyi as Ukraine continued to battle the pressures of a prolonged war.

यूक्रेनी वायुसेना ने टेलीग्राम के माध्यम से बैलिस्टिक मिसाइलों के खतरे की चेतावनी जारी की, जिसके तुरंत बाद राजधानी में कई जोरदार विस्फोट सुनाई दिए। प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों के अनुसार, एक विस्फोट इतना शक्तिशाली था कि शहर के मध्य क्षेत्र में खड़ी कई कारों के अलार्म स्वतः बजने लगे।

मेयर विताली क्लिट्स्को और स्थानीय प्रशासन ने बताया कि सोलोमियांस्की जिले में एक अपार्टमेंट इमारत क्षतिग्रस्त हुई, जबकि एक सुपरमार्केट में आग लग गई। स्वियातोशिन्स्की जिले में एक मकान आग की चपेट में आ गया।
इसके अलावा द्नीप्रोव्स्की जिले के एक शॉपिंग एवं मनोरंजन केंद्र, शेवचेंकिव्स्की जिले की एक आवासीय इमारत तथा एक अन्य गैर-आवासीय भवन को भी नुकसान पहुंचा।
राजधानी के अलावा रूस के ड्रोन हमलों ने द्नीप्रोपेत्रोव्स्क क्षेत्र को भी प्रभावित किया। क्षेत्रीय अधिकारी ओलेक्सांद्र हांझा ने बताया कि वहां एक व्यक्ति की मौत हुई।
दूसरी ओर, रूस के सीमावर्ती कुर्स्क क्षेत्र में यूक्रेनी हमले में भी एक व्यक्ति के मारे जाने की पुष्टि की गई। क्षेत्र के गवर्नर अलेक्जेंडर खिन्श्टेन ने इसकी आधिकारिक जानकारी दी।
साल 2022 में पूर्ण पैमाने पर युद्ध शुरू होने के बाद से रूस लगभग प्रतिदिन कीव और यूक्रेन के अन्य शहरों पर मिसाइल एवं ड्रोन हमले करता रहा है।
ताजा घटनाक्रम से एक दिन पहले यूक्रेन ने रूस के मॉस्को और तांबोव क्षेत्रों में स्थित ई-कॉमर्स गोदामों पर ड्रोन हमले किए थे।
यूक्रेन का दावा है कि इन परिसरों का उपयोग सैन्य आपूर्ति से जुड़े प्रतिबंधित उपकरणों के भंडारण के लिए किया जा रहा था। वहीं रूसी अधिकारियों ने इन हमलों में आठ लोगों की मौत और भीषण आग लगने की जानकारी दी।
शनिवार को यूक्रेन के दक्षिण-पूर्वी इलाकों में रूसी हमलों में पांच लोगों की मौत हुई और लगभग 20 अन्य घायल हो गए। राष्ट्रपति वोलोदिमिर जेलेंस्की ने कहा कि रूस के लॉजिस्टिक केंद्रों को निशाना बनाना यूक्रेन के नागरिक ढांचे और शहरों पर लगातार हो रहे हमलों का जवाब था।
उन्होंने सोशल मीडिया मंच X पर आरोप लगाया कि इन परिसरों का इस्तेमाल ड्रोन निर्माण में प्रयुक्त प्रतिबंधित पुर्जों और नेविगेशन उपकरणों की आपूर्ति के लिए किया जा रहा था।
हाल के महीनों में यूक्रेन ने रूस के भीतर दूर तक मार करने वाले ड्रोन हमलों की संख्या बढ़ाई है। कीव इस अभियान को “लॉन्ग-रेंज सैंक्शंस” का नाम देता है और इसे वर्षों से जारी रूसी हमलों के प्रतिकार के रूप में प्रस्तुत करता है।
इन अभियानों का प्रमुख लक्ष्य रूस का तेल और ऊर्जा ढांचा रहा है, जिससे कई क्षेत्रों में ईंधन आपूर्ति प्रभावित होने की खबरें सामने आई हैं।
रूसी राजधानी के मेयर सर्गेई सोब्यानिन ने बताया कि एक ही रात में मॉस्को क्षेत्र की ओर 370 से अधिक यूक्रेनी ड्रोन भेजे गए। उनके अनुसार 11 जुलाई से 18 जुलाई के बीच मॉस्को की ओर बढ़ रहे लगभग 1,892 ड्रोन वायु रक्षा प्रणाली द्वारा मार गिराए गए।
युद्ध के बीच यूक्रेन के भीतर राजनीतिक हलचल भी तेज हो गई है। शनिवार को लगातार तीसरे दिन हजारों नागरिक विभिन्न शहरों में सड़कों पर उतरे और रक्षा मंत्री मिखाइलो फेदोरोव को पद से हटाए जाने के फैसले के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन किया।
तकनीक आधारित सैन्य आधुनिकीकरण के समर्थक माने जाने वाले फेदोरोव को सरकार के अप्रत्याशित फेरबदल में हटाए जाने से राष्ट्रपति जेलेंस्की की युद्धकालीन नेतृत्व शैली पर सार्वजनिक सवाल उठने लगे हैं।
इसी दौरान राष्ट्रपति ने शीर्ष सैन्य अधिकारियों के साथ लगातार दो दिनों तक बैठकें कीं, जिससे सेना प्रमुख ओलेक्सांद्र सिर्स्की के भविष्य को लेकर भी अटकलें तेज हो गईं।
अपने अपेक्षाकृत छोटे कार्यकाल के दौरान फेदोरोव ने सेना के डिजिटलीकरण और आधुनिक तकनीकों के व्यापक उपयोग पर जोर दिया था। इसी मुद्दे को लेकर उनके और जनरल सिर्स्की के बीच कई बार मतभेद सामने आने की चर्चाएं भी होती रही हैं, जबकि यूक्रेन लगातार लंबे युद्ध के दबाव का सामना कर रहा है।
