Salman Khan Launches ‘Being Human’ Flood Relief Mission in Assam as Humanitarian Crisis Continues
Stepping beyond the arc lights and into humanitarian action, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has quietly extended a helping hand to thousands of families devastated by the floods in Assam.
In collaboration with one of his fan clubs in the state, the actor has initiated a phased relief programme under the banner of his charitable organisation, Being Human, aimed at providing immediate assistance as well as long-term support to those struggling to rebuild their lives.
Sources familiar with the initiative said the relief campaign has been carefully structured in multiple stages to ensure sustained assistance reaches the affected population.
The first phase is already underway, with volunteers distributing ready-to-eat meals and essential food supplies across inundated areas.
The operation is expected to expand over the coming weeks to include dry rations, relief kits and rehabilitation support for damaged schools and healthcare facilities.
Apart from food assistance, the campaign also plans to supply drinking water, medicines, sanitary napkins and mosquito repellent sprays to people displaced by the disaster.
The objective, according to those associated with the initiative, is to address not only immediate hunger but also the growing public health concerns that typically follow large-scale flooding.
Although several members of the film fraternity, including Bhumi Pednekar and Adil Hussain, have used social media platforms to draw attention to Assam’s flood crisis, Salman Khan has emerged among the few Bollywood personalities to back relief efforts with an organised on-ground humanitarian operation.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Assam continues to reflect the scale of one of the state’s worst natural calamities in recent times.
Torrential rains and overflowing rivers have inundated hundreds of villages, leaving widespread destruction in their wake.
Homes, roads, public infrastructure and farmlands have suffered extensive damage, while the death toll has climbed to 68.
Despite the grim picture, officials reported encouraging signs on Tuesday, stating that floodwaters had started receding in several districts, bringing down the number of affected people to 4,45,495 from more than five lakh recorded until Sunday.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the districts of Sivasagar, Golaghat, Charaideo, Jorhat, Nagaon and Kamrup Metropolitan continue to bear the brunt of the floods.
Although water levels have shown improvement in some locations, thousands of residents remain displaced and dependent on relief assistance.
Official data released by the ASDMA on Monday evening showed that floodwaters continued to engulf 631 villages spread across 21 revenue circles.
Charaideo remains the worst-affected district, with nearly 1.88 lakh people impacted, followed by Sivasagar, where around 1.44 lakh residents continue to face the consequences of the disaster.
Agriculture and animal husbandry have also suffered severe setbacks. Authorities said nearly 37,139 hectares of cultivated farmland remain submerged, affecting the livelihoods of thousands of farming families.
More than 2.56 lakh livestock have been impacted by the floods, while over 26,000 animals are reported to have been washed away in the deluge.
Critical infrastructure has sustained extensive damage across several districts, particularly Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo, where roads have been badly affected.
Residential losses have also mounted, with 171 houses destroyed and another 4,667 suffering partial damage.
Floodwaters have entered several schools in Sivasagar and Jorhat, disrupting academic activities and adding to the hardships faced by local communities.
Hydrological conditions continue to be monitored closely. Officials said the Dhansiri (South) River remains above the danger mark at Numaligarh.
However, there has been no report so far of any river breaching its Highest Flood Level (HFL), offering a measure of relief as authorities continue rescue and rehabilitation operations across the affected regions.

रजत पर्दे की चमक से दूर एक संवेदनशील पहल करते हुए बॉलीवुड सुपरस्टार सलमान खान ने असम बाढ़ से प्रभावित हजारों परिवारों की मदद के लिए चुपचाप राहत अभियान शुरू किया है।
राज्य में सक्रिय अपने एक फैन क्लब के सहयोग से उन्होंने अपनी सामाजिक संस्था ‘बीइंग ह्यूमन’ के माध्यम से चरणबद्ध राहत कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत की है, जिसका उद्देश्य पीड़ितों को तत्काल सहायता उपलब्ध कराने के साथ-साथ पुनर्वास में भी सहयोग देना है।
इस अभियान से जुड़े सूत्रों के अनुसार राहत कार्य को सुनियोजित ढंग से कई चरणों में विभाजित किया गया है ताकि सहायता लगातार जरूरतमंदों तक पहुंचती रहे।
पहले चरण में बाढ़ प्रभावित इलाकों में तैयार भोजन के पैकेट और अन्य आवश्यक खाद्य सामग्री वितरित की जा रही है।
आने वाले सप्ताहों में इस अभियान का दायरा बढ़ाते हुए राशन किट, राहत सामग्री तथा क्षतिग्रस्त स्कूलों और अस्पतालों के पुनर्निर्माण में सहयोग भी शामिल किया जाएगा।
राहत सामग्री केवल खाद्य पदार्थों तक सीमित नहीं रहेगी। प्रभावित लोगों को पीने का स्वच्छ पानी, आवश्यक दवाइयां, सैनिटरी नैपकिन और मच्छरों से बचाव के लिए रिपेलेंट स्प्रे भी उपलब्ध कराए जाएंगे।
इस पहल का उद्देश्य बाढ़ के बाद उत्पन्न होने वाली स्वास्थ्य संबंधी चुनौतियों से भी लोगों को राहत पहुंचाना है।
जहां अभिनेत्री भूमि पेडनेकर और अभिनेता आदिल हुसैन सहित कई फिल्मी हस्तियों ने सोशल मीडिया के माध्यम से असम की स्थिति को लेकर जागरूकता फैलाने का प्रयास किया है, वहीं सलमान खान उन चुनिंदा बॉलीवुड कलाकारों में शामिल हैं जिन्होंने सीधे जमीनी स्तर पर राहत अभियान शुरू कर पीड़ितों तक सहायता पहुंचाने की पहल की है।
दूसरी ओर, असम में बाढ़ का संकट अब भी व्यापक तबाही की कहानी बयां कर रहा है। लगातार बारिश और नदियों के उफान ने सैकड़ों गांवों को जलमग्न कर दिया है। हजारों मकान, सड़कें, सार्वजनिक ढांचे और कृषि भूमि प्रभावित हुई हैं, जबकि मृतकों की संख्या बढ़कर 68 पहुंच गई है।
हालांकि मंगलवार को प्रशासन ने कुछ राहत भरी खबर भी दी। अधिकारियों के अनुसार कई जिलों में जलस्तर घटने से प्रभावित लोगों की संख्या पांच लाख से अधिक से घटकर 4,45,495 रह गई है।
असम राज्य आपदा प्रबंधन प्राधिकरण (एएसडीएमए) के मुताबिक शिवसागर, गोलाघाट, चराइदेव, जोरहाट, नगांव और कामरूप मेट्रोपॉलिटन जिले अभी भी सबसे अधिक प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में शामिल हैं।
कई स्थानों पर पानी कम होने के बावजूद बड़ी संख्या में लोग अब भी राहत शिविरों और सरकारी सहायता पर निर्भर हैं।
सोमवार शाम जारी एएसडीएमए के आंकड़ों के अनुसार राज्य के 21 राजस्व परिक्षेत्रों के अंतर्गत आने वाले 631 गांव अब भी बाढ़ की चपेट में हैं।
चराइदेव जिला सबसे अधिक प्रभावित है, जहां लगभग 1.88 लाख लोग संकट झेल रहे हैं। इसके बाद शिवसागर का स्थान है, जहां करीब 1.44 लाख लोग बाढ़ से प्रभावित हैं।
प्राकृतिक आपदा ने खेती-किसानी और पशुपालन को भी गहरी चोट पहुंचाई है। लगभग 37,139 हेक्टेयर कृषि भूमि अब भी पानी में डूबी हुई है, जिससे हजारों किसानों की आजीविका प्रभावित हुई है।
इसके अलावा 2.56 लाख से अधिक पशु बाढ़ से प्रभावित हुए हैं, जबकि 26,000 से ज्यादा पशु तेज बहाव में बह जाने की सूचना है।
सार्वजनिक और निजी बुनियादी ढांचे को भी भारी नुकसान पहुंचा है। विशेष रूप से जोरहाट, शिवसागर और चराइदेव जिलों में अनेक सड़कें क्षतिग्रस्त हो गई हैं। आवासीय नुकसान भी गंभीर है।
अब तक 171 मकान पूरी तरह बह चुके हैं, जबकि 4,667 मकानों को आंशिक क्षति पहुंची है। शिवसागर और जोरहाट के कई विद्यालयों में भी पानी भर गया है, जिससे शैक्षणिक गतिविधियां बुरी तरह प्रभावित हुई हैं।
जल संसाधन विभाग स्थिति पर लगातार नजर बनाए हुए है। अधिकारियों के अनुसार धानसिरी (दक्षिण) नदी नुमालीगढ़ में अब भी खतरे के निशान से ऊपर बह रही है।
हालांकि फिलहाल किसी भी नदी के अपने उच्चतम बाढ़ स्तर (एचएफएल) को पार करने की सूचना नहीं है, जिससे राहत एवं बचाव कार्यों को गति देने में कुछ सहूलियत मिलने की उम्मीद जताई जा रही है।
