Surge in Tower-Climbing Protests in Prayagraj: At Least Six Incidents Reported This Yea
Prayagraj: Cases of people climbing mobile and electricity towers as a form of protest have become increasingly common in Prayagraj and nearby areas.
Whether triggered by family disputes, property disagreements, unfulfilled demands, or complaints against administrative action, several individuals have resorted to scaling tall structures in a desperate attempt to draw attention to their grievances.
According to officials, such incidents often arise from personal disputes or frustrations over government and administrative matters.
In many cases, individuals climb towers carrying mobile phones and continue speaking to family members or officials while refusing to come down.
Police and administrative officers frequently spend hours at such locations, trying to persuade the protesters to descend safely.
These situations not only create public concern but also pose serious challenges to law and order and consume considerable administrative resources.
Officials said that after repeated counselling and assurances, most people eventually agree to come down.
However, the increasing frequency of such incidents has become a matter of concern for the administration.
Reports indicate that since mid-June alone, around 15 such incidents have been recorded in the Prayagraj and Pratapgarh regions, with women also figuring prominently among those involved.
Six Cases Reported in Prayagraj This Year
January 1
A young woman climbed an electricity tower in the Mauaima area after her family objected to her relationship with a man.
She reportedly threatened to jump when her relatives attempted to separate the couple. Police managed to rescue her safely after prolonged efforts.
April 30
A woman climbed an electricity tower in Naini while demanding that her estranged husband take her back.
She remained atop the tower until late at night and was brought down safely only after extensive persuasion by police and departmental officials.
May 2
A woman in Phaphamau climbed a tower after alleging that her husband had falsely implicated her in theft and assault cases and was attempting to remarry. Police registered a case and convinced her to come down after several hours.
May 11
A woman climbed a tower in Nawabganj due to a family dispute over ancestral land. Revenue officials, police personnel and members of the SDRF team reached the spot and rescued her after nearly four hours of negotiations.
June 1
In Mauaima’s Jangipur locality, a newly married woman climbed a mobile tower after an argument with her husband over her wish to visit her parents’ home.
Despite rainfall, she remained on the tower for some time before police counselled both families and resolved the matter.
June 10
Another woman climbed a tower following a dispute with her husband. Police and local officials intervened, held discussions with both sides and eventually persuaded her to descend safely.
Officials say the growing number of such incidents highlights the need for timely counselling, stronger family support systems and quicker resolution of personal and administrative grievances before they escalate into dangerous public protests.

प्रयागराज: मोबाइल और बिजली के टावर पर चढ़कर अपनी मांगें मनवाने या विरोध दर्ज कराने की घटनाएं प्रयागराज और आसपास के क्षेत्रों में लगातार बढ़ रही हैं। पारिवारिक विवाद, प्रेम प्रसंग, जमीन संबंधी झगड़े, प्रशासन से शिकायतें या अन्य व्यक्तिगत कारणों से लोग ऊंचे टावरों पर चढ़कर विरोध का रास्ता अपना रहे हैं।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार, अधिकांश मामलों में लोग अपनी बात मनवाने या शिकायतों की ओर ध्यान आकर्षित करने के लिए टावर पर चढ़ जाते हैं। कई बार वे मोबाइल फोन पर अपने परिजनों या अधिकारियों से बातचीत करते हुए नीचे आने से इनकार कर देते हैं।
ऐसी घटनाओं में पुलिस और प्रशासनिक अधिकारियों को घंटों मौके पर रहकर समझाने-बुझाने का प्रयास करना पड़ता है। ये घटनाएं न केवल लोगों की सुरक्षा के लिए खतरा बनती हैं, बल्कि कानून-व्यवस्था और प्रशासन के लिए भी बड़ी चुनौती साबित होती हैं।
अधिकारियों का कहना है कि समझाइश और आश्वासन के बाद ज्यादातर लोग सुरक्षित नीचे उतर आते हैं, लेकिन इस तरह की घटनाओं की बढ़ती संख्या चिंता का विषय है। रिपोर्टों के अनुसार, जून के मध्य तक केवल प्रयागराज और प्रतापगढ़ क्षेत्र में ही करीब 15 ऐसी घटनाएं सामने आ चुकी हैं, जिनमें महिलाओं की संख्या भी उल्लेखनीय है।
इस वर्ष प्रयागराज में सामने आए छह प्रमुख मामले
1 जनवरी: मऊआइमा क्षेत्र में एक युवती प्रेम संबंध का विरोध किए जाने पर बिजली के टावर पर चढ़ गई। कई घंटे की मशक्कत के बाद पुलिस ने उसे सुरक्षित नीचे उतारा।
30 अप्रैल: नैनी में एक महिला अपने पति द्वारा साथ रखने की मांग को लेकर बिजली के टावर पर चढ़ गई। देर रात तक चले समझाने के बाद उसे सुरक्षित उतारा गया।
2 मई: फाफामऊ में एक महिला ने पति पर झूठे मुकदमे दर्ज कराने और दूसरी शादी की तैयारी करने का आरोप लगाते हुए टावर पर चढ़कर विरोध किया। बाद में पुलिस ने मामला दर्ज कर उसे नीचे उतारा।
11 मई: नवाबगंज में पैतृक जमीन के विवाद से नाराज एक महिला टावर पर चढ़ गई। राजस्व विभाग, पुलिस और एसडीआरएफ की टीम ने करीब चार घंटे बाद उसे सुरक्षित नीचे उतारा।
1 जून: मऊआइमा के जंगीपुर इलाके में एक नवविवाहिता मायके जाने को लेकर हुए विवाद के बाद मोबाइल टावर पर चढ़ गई। बारिश के बावजूद वह कुछ समय तक टावर पर डटी रही, जिसके बाद पुलिस ने दोनों पक्षों को समझाकर मामला सुलझाया।
10 जून: पति से विवाद के बाद एक अन्य महिला टावर पर चढ़ गई। पुलिस और स्थानीय प्रशासन ने हस्तक्षेप कर दोनों पक्षों से बातचीत की और उसे सुरक्षित नीचे उतरने के लिए राजी कर लिया।
प्रशासन का मानना है कि ऐसी घटनाएं यह संकेत देती हैं कि पारिवारिक और सामाजिक विवादों के समय पर समाधान, परामर्श और संवाद की व्यवस्था को और मजबूत किए जाने की आवश्यकता है, ताकि लोग अपनी समस्याओं के समाधान के लिए इस तरह के खतरनाक कदम उठाने को मजबूर न हों।
