Suruchi Singh, Kamaljeet Fire India to Second Asian Games Gold in Shooting
Haryana shooters dominate 10m air pistol mixed-team final with Asian-record 484.6 as India adds another gold in Aichi-Nagoya
AICHI-NAGOYA: India’s shooting campaign at the 2026 Asian Games received a major boost on Friday as Haryana’s Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet combined with remarkable composure to win the 10m air pistol mixed-team gold, delivering the country’s second gold medal of the Games.
The Indian duo produced 484.6 points in the medal round to finish comfortably ahead of South Korea’s Suhyeon Hong and Gaeun Choo, who collected silver with 478.0. Iran took bronze with 415.8.
India’s winning score also established a new Asian record, improving on the previous mark of 481.3 set by Uzbekistan earlier this year.
Rather than allowing the final to develop into a close contest, Suruchi and Kamaljeet seized control early and maintained their advantage through the decisive stages.
Their 6.6-point cushion over the Korean pair reflected the consistency they brought to the medal round.
The gold is particularly significant for Suruchi, who has rapidly progressed from a teenage newcomer to one of India’s prominent 10m air pistol shooters.
Suruchi’s rapid rise from Haryana
Born on April 28, 2006, in Haryana’s Jhajjar district, Suruchi initially had another sporting path in mind.
Coming from a family with a strong sporting background, she was encouraged to try wrestling before shooting eventually became her chosen discipline.
She began shooting at the age of 13 and trained at the Guru Dronacharya Shooting Academy in Bhiwani under coach Suresh Singh.
Her progress was rapid, and she soon began producing results on the international junior circuit before breaking through at the senior level.
The year 2025 proved to be the turning point. Suruchi won three consecutive individual ISSF World Cup gold medals in Buenos Aires, Lima and Munich.
She also stood on top of the podium in the mixed-team competition at the Lima World Cup.
Her extraordinary season continued at the ISSF World Cup Final in Doha, where she won gold and recorded 245.1 points in the 10m air pistol final.
The performance stands in the ISSF record books as a junior world record.
Suruchi carried that momentum into 2026, adding another World Cup gold in Munich and a silver in the 10m air pistol mixed-team competition at the Asian Championships.
Her latest Asian Games triumph now adds one of the biggest medals of her young career.
Kamaljeet’s second chance in sport
Kamaljeet’s route to the Asian Games podium was markedly different.
The shooter from Sulkha village in Rewari, Haryana, originally pursued athletics before an injury forced him to abandon his ambitions on the track.
He moved into shooting in 2019 and had to overcome another obstacle away from the competition arena: money.
Coming from a middle-class family, Kamaljeet struggled in the early years to meet the expenses associated with coaching, courses and competitions.
He has spoken about having to bear some of those costs himself and even reaching a point where continuing in the sport seemed uncertain.
His family nevertheless continued to support his ambitions. That backing, combined with several years of persistence, helped him establish himself as a serious competitor in pistol shooting.
Kamaljeet’s first major international breakthrough came at the 2023 ISSF Junior World Championships in Changwon, South Korea.
He won the junior men’s 50m pistol title with a score of 544, finishing ahead of Uzbekistan’s Veniamin Nikitin and South Korea’s Kim Taemin.
He subsequently made the transition to senior competition, competing in both the 50m pistol and 10m air pistol events.
A gold medal built on contrasting journeys
The Aichi-Nagoya triumph brings together two shooters whose careers developed through very different circumstances.
Suruchi’s rise has been remarkably rapid, while Kamaljeet’s progress has been shaped by an early sporting setback and the financial pressures of pursuing an expensive discipline.
Their Asian Games performance, however, produced the same result: an emphatic victory and a new Asian record.
For India, the gold also adds further momentum to a shooting campaign that has already produced several medals at the Games.
The 10m air pistol mixed-team title gives the country’s contingent another major success as competition continues in Japan.

सुरुचि और कमलजीत ने फाइनल में कुल 484.6 अंक जुटाए और दक्षिण कोरिया की सुह्योन होंग तथा गाउन चू की जोड़ी को पीछे छोड़ दिया। कोरियाई जोड़ी को 478.0 अंक के साथ रजत पदक मिला, जबकि ईरान ने 415.8 अंक के साथ कांस्य हासिल किया।
भारतीय जोड़ी की जीत केवल स्वर्ण तक सीमित नहीं रही। 484.6 का स्कोर नया एशियाई रिकॉर्ड भी बन गया। इससे पहले यह रिकॉर्ड उज्बेकिस्तान के नाम था, जिसने 481.3 अंक का स्कोर बनाया था।
फाइनल के निर्णायक दौर में भारतीय निशानेबाजों ने शुरुआत से ही बढ़त बना ली और मुकाबला आगे बढ़ने के साथ अपनी स्थिति मजबूत करते गए। अंत में भारत और दक्षिण कोरिया के बीच 6.6 अंकों का अंतर रहा, जो भारतीय जोड़ी के प्रदर्शन की मजबूती को दर्शाता है।
छोटी उम्र में अंतरराष्ट्रीय पहचान बना चुकी हैं सुरुचि
28 अप्रैल 2006 को हरियाणा के झज्जर जिले में जन्मी सुरुचि सिंह ने निशानेबाजी से पहले कुश्ती में हाथ आजमाया था। खेल से जुड़े परिवार में पली-बढ़ी सुरुचि को शुरुआत में कुश्ती की ओर जाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया गया, लेकिन बाद में उन्होंने निशानेबाजी को अपना करियर बनाने का फैसला किया।
13 साल की उम्र में उन्होंने शूटिंग शुरू की और भिवानी स्थित गुरु द्रोणाचार्य शूटिंग अकादमी में कोच सुरेश सिंह के मार्गदर्शन में प्रशिक्षण लिया। इसके बाद उन्होंने जूनियर स्तर से अंतरराष्ट्रीय प्रतियोगिताओं में अपनी पहचान बनानी शुरू की और जल्द ही सीनियर स्तर पर भी सफलता हासिल की।
साल 2025 सुरुचि के करियर में बड़ा मोड़ लेकर आया। उन्होंने ब्यूनस आयर्स, लीमा और म्यूनिख में लगातार तीन ISSF विश्व कप में व्यक्तिगत स्वर्ण पदक जीते। लीमा विश्व कप में उन्होंने मिक्स्ड टीम स्पर्धा में भी गोल्ड अपने नाम किया।
दोहा में आयोजित ISSF विश्व कप फाइनल में भी उनका शानदार प्रदर्शन जारी रहा। उन्होंने 10 मीटर एयर पिस्टल फाइनल में 245.1 अंक के साथ स्वर्ण पदक जीता और यह स्कोर जूनियर विश्व रिकॉर्ड के रूप में ISSF के रिकॉर्ड में दर्ज है।
2026 में भी सुरुचि की सफलता का सिलसिला जारी रहा। उन्होंने म्यूनिख ISSF विश्व कप में गोल्ड जीता और एशियाई निशानेबाजी चैंपियनशिप में 10 मीटर एयर पिस्टल मिक्स्ड टीम स्पर्धा का रजत पदक हासिल किया। अब एशियन गेम्स का यह स्वर्ण उनके तेजी से उभरते करियर में एक और बड़ी उपलब्धि बन गया है।
कमलजीत ने चोट के बाद बदली खेल की राह
कमलजीत की खेल यात्रा सुरुचि से बिल्कुल अलग रही है। रेवाड़ी के सुलखा गांव के रहने वाले कमलजीत का शुरुआती लक्ष्य एथलेटिक्स में करियर बनाना था। लेकिन चोट के कारण उन्हें ट्रैक एंड फील्ड छोड़ना पड़ा और 2019 में उन्होंने निशानेबाजी का रुख किया।
नई खेल विधा चुनना उनके लिए आसान नहीं था। मध्यमवर्गीय परिवार से आने वाले कमलजीत के सामने प्रशिक्षण, कोर्स और प्रतियोगिताओं के खर्च की चुनौती थी। शुरुआती दौर में उन्हें अपने कुछ खर्च खुद उठाने पड़े और आर्थिक दबाव के कारण एक समय ऐसा भी आया जब उन्होंने खेल जारी रखने पर विचार किया।
हालांकि, परिवार उनके साथ मजबूती से खड़ा रहा। लगातार मेहनत और पारिवारिक सहयोग के बल पर कमलजीत ने धीरे-धीरे राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर अपनी जगह बनानी शुरू कर दी।
उनकी पहली बड़ी अंतरराष्ट्रीय सफलता 2023 में दक्षिण कोरिया के चांगवोन में आयोजित ISSF जूनियर विश्व चैंपियनशिप में आई। कमलजीत ने पुरुषों की जूनियर 50 मीटर पिस्टल स्पर्धा में 544 अंक हासिल कर स्वर्ण पदक जीता।
इसके बाद उन्होंने सीनियर स्तर की प्रतियोगिताओं में कदम रखा और 50 मीटर पिस्टल के साथ-साथ 10 मीटर एयर पिस्टल में भी अपनी मौजूदगी दर्ज कराई।
दो अलग रास्ते, एक ऐतिहासिक मंजिल
सुरुचि और कमलजीत की कहानियां अलग-अलग परिस्थितियों से निकलकर एक ही मुकाम तक पहुंची हैं। एक ओर जहां सुरुचि ने बेहद कम उम्र में विश्व स्तर पर लगातार सफलताएं हासिल कीं, वहीं कमलजीत ने चोट, आर्थिक कठिनाइयों और खेल बदलने की चुनौती के बावजूद अपना रास्ता बनाया।
एशियन गेम्स के फाइनल में दोनों की जोड़ी ने इन तमाम संघर्षों को पीछे छोड़ते हुए भारत के लिए स्वर्ण पदक हासिल किया और साथ ही नया एशियाई रिकॉर्ड कायम किया।
भारत के लिए यह उपलब्धि निशानेबाजी में जारी पदक अभियान को और मजबूती देती है। एशियन गेम्स में शूटिंग से लगातार मिल रही सफलताओं के बीच 10 मीटर एयर पिस्टल मिक्स्ड टीम का यह गोल्ड भारतीय दल के खाते में एक और महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धि जोड़ता है।
